Sabadazo: Homenaje a Cantinflas - 100 Años (2011)
Cantinflas the best comedian of Latin America!
A big Bravo for the producers of "Sabadazo" that in this special edition presented a well-deserved recognition to the most famous comedian from Mexico: "Cantinflas." TV Special like this one make "Televisa" look good. It is important to keep the memory of great comedians like "Cantinflas" alive. The great vibe between impersonators of great quality was quite evident. A big applause to the hosts of the show: Omar Chaparro, Cecilia Galiano and Laura G. and another big applause to the impersonators. I specially liked the one from Los Angeles Mario Ramirez "El Comodin," that imitated Cantinflas flawlessly. To the Sabadazo producers, keep doing these kind of specials that remind us that comedy can still be family oriented. Let us keep the memory of the big comedians alive. Bravo for everyone that makes specials like this one!
East L.A. King (2004)
I was touched by it.
I personally liked this movie very much because it shows how we all pay a price for whatever we do in this lifetime. In this case the father pays the price of all the bad things he did in his younger years through his son who becomes just like him. I agree that it is not your typical violent gang movie, but that is exactly what I like about it, the fact that it explores the world of a person who is in a gang and later decides to straighten his life. It concentrates on how that person changes his life around first in prison and later in his life. Okay maybe not everyone who comes out of prison will become a better human being when they come out, but I think it was brilliant to put a Jesus like character in the same cell as the lead character. Technically speaking the film was okay, not Hollywood okay, for that it would have needed a bigger budget, but overall I thought it was okay. If you are after big special effects, this is not the film, but if you want to see a transforming movie, I recommend it!
Crossing Frontiers (2007)
Great film. Moving. Interesting plot.
I really enjoyed this film. It gives an interesting point of view of life after death. It proposes that if we harm someone in this lifetime we will have to experience the same thing in another life. The film was not an expensive one. But the story was so moving that you forget the budget factor. Of course it would have benefited from a better budget, but the story is stronger. The acting was okay. The costumes were not sophisticated enough. But I give them credit for mixing the Aztecs with modern Los Angeles. That was interesting to watch. The locations were beautiful. I was under the impression they were in a distant place, and found out when I read the credits that it was shot in Los Angeles. The music was okay too.
