Awake (2007)
Such a waste of time
Going into this movie, I knew it was going to be crap. The two main actors just aren't good in anything.Hayden Christianson is absolultely horrible in anything he ever does. Jessica Alba, a smoking hot woman, is better than Christianson but still even she cant act to save her life. OK on to the story. Awake is about a businessman having to undergo surgery and he's one of the few people that don't go totally under. Yet he cant move or wake up to let these doctors know. Unfortunately the doctors have ulterior motives and so Christianson is stuck being the pawn in the doctors game. The premise itself is intriguing. I think it would have been a better movie had the script been better and the studio had found better actors. I heard somewhere that Jared Leto had been in the role but he quit. He would have probably saved the movie. such a waste of time
Slow Burn (2005)
don't blink
I had not heard of this movie when me and my friend picked it up at Blockbuster. It was between this and Be Kind Rewind and fortunately we chose this movie. Ray Liotta plays a district attourney running for mayor when his DA is raped by a supposed psychotic music store clerk and then murders him. Liotta is taken on a roller coaster of a mystery where you don't know who is telling the truth and if everyone is who they say they are. There are so many twists and turns that it becomes confusing at points but it all adds up to the ending which relieves your confusion. I haven't heard of Jolene Blalock but she is excellent in her role as the supposedly raped(was she or wasn't she?) DA who may have some tricks up her sleeve. The only thing i had a problem with was some of the dialouge. LL Cool J's ramblings about everything smelling like food was a bit strange. Other than that it was awesome
88 Minutes (2007)
I don't get all the negative reviews
honestly i don't understand all the negativity towards this movie because i thought the movie was great. Al Pacino is great in this movie and the plot was pretty damn good as well. yes i will admit its a bit slow at the beginning but from the first phone call you are led through a mystery with spins a web of so many twists and turns you are practically glued to your seat. you will not expect the ending or who the killer turns out to be or do you? Leelee Sobiesky(don't know if thats right or not)is turning out to be an excellen actress as well as Benjamin McKenzie(actor not actress) yes for you guys there is a bit of eye candy(some sizzling women in this movie with a bit nudity as well)
The Reaping (2007)
what hath hilary wrought?
as a Christian, i found the premise to be enticing. i wondered how Hollywood would do a movie like this and in fact, stephan hunter, the director, did quite well. yes some dialogue is laughable but the best part about the movie was the fact that something like this could happen. not a little girl causing plagues, but what the movie ends up being. to me, the end result is terrifying. and that is what i believe makes up a successful horror movie. a lot of jumpy moments and plenty of creepy ones too. some of the plagues are awesome such as the death of the first born. all in all its well worth your while. hilary swank, while not my favorite actress(she keeps beating out annette bening at Oscar time!) shes really good here
The Number 23 (2007)
a jim carrey movie that doesn't to strive to be stupidly funny
this is seriously hands down one jim carreys best acting. the movie itself is not better than eternal sunshine (which i consider his best movie)but that doesn't really matter. carrey plays Walter Sparrow a friendless dog catcher who's wife (virginia madsen) buys him a book for his birthday called the number 23. as he reads it begins to believe that his life is somehow parallel to the books main character, Fingerling. everything about this movie is good. the plot the characters the acting and yes there is a twist (what movie like this doesn't nowadays) but the twist is brilliant and i never saw it coming.go see this movie
Norbit (2007)
funny yet totally ridiculous at the same time
let me start off saying im sooooo glad i didn't pay to see this movie. i work at a movie theater and i get to see movies for free. while there were a lot of laughs in the movie, i found it to be so freakin ridiculous. Eddie Murphy returns to the adult comedy instead of being trapped in kids movies. although its not his best, its certainly not his worst. there are a lot of recognizable people in this movie. Thandie Newton plays his childhood sweetheart(although i don't think she wanted to be in this movie because she seems to be uncomfortable) eddie griffin is absolutely hysterical especially towards the end. all in all i was a little disappointed but it still made me laugh a lot. of course they have to make some ewww gross moment with rasputia for example they just had to have rasputia go to get a bikini wax.
Saw III (2006)
ouch!!
i normally don't like bloody/gory movies but for some reason i love the saw movies. probably cause there is actually a story behind why he does the things that he does. OK so saw 3. an excellent sequel. basically you have a cheating doctor and a grief stricken man who are both going through their own games. jigsaw is barely alive and the woman has to keep him alive as long as the other guy completes his little game. its a very good movie. there are a lot of ouch scenes though (spoiler here so stop reading if you want) especially with the guy being twisted around. otherwise good suspense. although all i had to say after watching was ouch!!
The Prestige (2006)
are you watching closely?
wow. what a ride. i have to say i was expecting a different movie but it was way better than what i expected. OK so here it goes. Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden ( Christian Bale) are friendly magicians who share an act until one night something goes terribly wrong and makes them enemies. Both wont rest until the other outdoes the other or sabotages each others performance. i have to say this is Hugh Jackmans finest performance here as well as Michael Caine as John Cutter the stage engineer. Christian Bale is also good as well as Scarlett Johansson but unfortunately this stunning actress is used much. The Prestige for me is the best movie of the year so far. Hopefully this movie gets recognized at Oscar time. When you see this movie, pay attention very closely cause if you blink you wont get the ending. my jaw dropped at the end. christopher nolan is one of the best directors today and this film shows that. are you watching closely?
Man of the Year (2006)
a political thriller masqueraded as a comedy
if you are going to see this movie, by all means don't go into this movie with the expectation of this movie will be absolutely hilarious because you will be let down. yeah sure its funny at times but i would consider it a political thriller masqueraded as a comedy. the performances are very good especially by jeff goldblum as the head of the election company. even though he has limited screen time he makes a lasting impression. of course robin williams is excellent.laura linney is very good too what a surprise. she is one of the finest actresses in Hollywood and one scene in particular shows this. this film makes you think. what if a comedian ran for president and actually won? would the country be better off or would the country shatter into a million pieces?
Superman Returns (2006)
wow
i have to say the trailers for this movie don't do the movie its justice. Take it from someone who actually works at a movie theater and sees the trailer pretty much everyday, this movie is way better than the trailer shows. yeah its almost three hours long but what movie isn't these days? the cast in its self is excellent. Brandon routh, who i have never heard of before, nails Superman. With the glasses on, he actually looks like Christopher Reeve. Kate Bosworth is great as Lois. Kevin Spacey is chillingly good as Lex Luthor. This whole movie is awesome. While there is some slow parts(and every movie has them) this movie has awesome effects, an interesting twist, and a great story
