Ouija (2014)
Not scary
I don't expect much character definition from a horror movie but there wasn't even any stereotypical roles here, the lines could've been spoken by any of actors who struggled with a lame script and absent direction. The plot had promise but was executed poorly. Very few actual scary moments - and the 'climaxes' were just people in costume, which was laughable rather than creepy. I would agree with the other user who advised not to take this too seriously and enjoy it for what it is, but I would argue that it takes itself too seriously for that.
Geostorm (2017)
Not great, but entertaining enough if you've watched everything else on Netflix.
The characters lack depth, are difficult to like, and have very clichéd relationships.
The direction was either underwhelming or completely missed the point. Only Harris, Beetz, and Schiff managed to give remotely convincing performances - Harris by the skin of his teeth - but Bateman and Butler (both of whom have been decent in the past) struggled with such a painful script. The rest of the cast were dire.
The plot had potential but the twists were obvious and the ending was just ridiculous.
Beetz was the only redeeming part of this movie, and she was only in about five scenes.
Ex Machina (2014)
Thought-provoking but not pretentious
Posed some interesting questions without being preachy or ostentatious. Oscar Isaac is excellent and Alicia Vikander is intriguing. Manages to avoid being completely predictable - a rare find these days.
The Witcher (2019)
Room to grow
Henry Cavill and Freya Allan carry this, and the relationship between Henry and Joey Batey's character provides some decent comedic relief, but the casting for Yennefer and Triss are thus far pretty disappointing and uncomfortable to watch. Hopefully the next season won't be rushed, as it could do with more detail to flesh it out - there is so much more depth to The Witcher that hasn't been touched upon yet.
Órbita 9 (2017)
More potential
Great concept, but it wasn't explored as fully as it could have been. The twist was revealed too soon, given how predictable the ending was. I personally would have liked to see more focus on the moral/ethical consequences/repercussions, then it could have really found its niche.
