From Hell (2001)
FROM HELL
First of all, it is worth mentioning the skillfully written original source in the form of a graphic novel, which served as the basis for the drama of the film in question. The creators of the picture should thank all the persons involved in the writing of the graphic novel, depicting an unusually charming and horrible story of brutal murders, further complicated investigations and secret semi-mystical conspiracies. All this, not without changes, and with varying success, was transferred to the screen, people, as can be assumed after watching the film, interested not only in the practical success of their work, but also in the artistic value of their work.
All the gestures in the film, as if the gestures of heroes or gestures expressed by filmmakers in the methods of visualization of the story, are extremely conditional, but they are filled with magnificent elegance of visual media, the stylistic solution of which brightly reflects the genre of the picture and the gloomy tone of the history as a whole.
Nevertheless, not all the scenes and dialogues in the film are able to retain the necessary attention, because of the obvious, purely informational nature of such moments, which represent a form of necessary evil, in the form of mandatory points for the further development of the dramaturgical component of the unfolding events, in this sad history, without which the already fragile integrity of the line of the plot, runs the risk of inevitably falling apart.
Separately, I would like to note the inspiring charisma of the Sergeant, whose interaction with the main character, performed in a restrained ironic manner, deservedly draws attention to himself, but, importantly, does not pull him over, but only complements the image of the latter and, in all senses, helps him.
Selfie (2018)
The pain has a face...
Absolutely disgusting film, the emptiness of the content of which drives into such an irresistible yearning that, to confess, it begins to seem as if life is incredibly meaningless. There are films that don't know what they are and what they want to be. What did the creators of the film achieve? Nobody knows that. And he will never know. The tension created on the screen is comparable only to the tension in a lesson at school, when without learning the lesson you wonder whether you will be asked or not. How unpleasant it was to watch all that poor clownery and... Of course I did. Alcohol... Over and over again, domestic filmmakers paint portraits of heroes who can only exist time after time, orally consuming hot drinks in the most incomprehensible quantities. It makes no sense to take apart the dramatic component of the story set out in the film, talk about the persuasiveness of the presented actor's works and "admire" the virtuosity of the types of endless empty landscapes captured by the camera. The point is only to quickly forget the seen "sight" as the most terrible and terrible nightmare of your life.
