Road House (2024)
Liked it Better Than the Original
My husband and I really enjoyed this movie and yet never enjoyed the original. I thought the first movie did not have as brutal action scenes but almost seemed "Graceful" like the fights were 'choreographed' instead of angry. That, after all, is what a fight is...
We liked Ghilenhall in the lead role and was sincere and righteous. My favorite was McGregor who was so unique and punched like a 'pile driver'.
Now that's an action movie.
It's true that the plot was surrounding an uninteresting bar and town in the Keys. But the beauty of the ocean and the fast boats and yachts were great.
I couldn't understand the hero's dedication to this place to put himself in danger like he did.
Mystery Island (2023)
Telegraphing Everything Ahead
Gave 3 stars for the beautiful island atmosphere, the wonderful mansion and I liked the Eye Patch host actor very much. But it was annoying in so many ways such as the show off introductions "this is DOCTOR ........and I am LADY ......." Then you had to know they'd find a dead body going up the secret stairs.
Then being chased through the woods till DR heroine breathlessly makes thankful doe eyes at the island detective. Their Telegraphed ahead conversation where they BONDED over everything no matter how uninteresting.
Then the pitiful denouement with expectation of future romance and case solving together?
I love Agatha Christie so much and seeing the title I dared hope this would be a joy.
Rachel, Rachel (1968)
Full of Truth and Yet Sadness
Spoiler *
All the actors in this movie were so genuine. I taught 4th grade a long time ago for a few years and knew 2 teachers somewhat in Rachel's circumstances.
I was particularly impressed by James Olsen in his role as Nick and felt he deserved more recognition. For me subtlety is a virtue and his performance had a depth and remoteness that's unusual. You could see he had some issues that worried him but without blurting it all out there.
I mean after 2 date encounters Rachel intensely says she Loves him and wants their Children....... The scene of her calling from the phone booth was surprising and yet understandable I thought as he'd not made any declarations of big emotions toward her.
I've seen this movie 3 times and it stands up to time.
