Zoey 102 (2023)
Unexpectedly LOVED IT!
I won't lie, I had low expectations for this movie. Most reboots now days are garbage (with the exception on icarly), but this was great. Writing was smart and everything meshed together well. The highlight of the movie is definitely the supporting cast! I loved it being heavily centered on Logan and Quinn as well as seeing the rest of the cast reunite. The new supporting characters were funny as well. The only critique I have is Michael having more lines. He was always my favorite character, so seeing that he was somewhat mute the whole movie was disappointing. Regardless it was a great reboot with a solid plot! 10/10!
Maybe I Do (2023)
Dreadful
I thought with a stellar cast this movie would be great. Wrong! Someone mentioned this film would of done better as a play because they set up sure seems like it. Come to find out the director was previously a playwright and this is his debut film! If you are good at what you were previously doing, don't bothering trying to do something else. I hated the dialogue as it came out nonsensical and pretentious. Very much playwright dialogue. The cast was going in circles talking about nothing. Just get to the point! The dialogue made me cringe a lot of the time. The acting was pretty good as the cast does what they can with the horrid script. I was pretty bored throughout the film and just wanted it to be over. Would not recommend.
House Party (2023)
Absolutely rancid
Boyfriend and I left about 20 mins into this movie. Everyone in the theater collectively felt like they made a mistake paying for this movie. Which is a shame because they were excited to see it. The first 2 minutes I knew this wasn't going to be good. The jokes were forced, no chemistry between the leads, comedic timing (if you could call anything in this movie comedic) was horrendous, and an extremely slow plot. After 10 minutes I was snapping my fingers like ok get to the next scene! My boyfriend is white af and he even felt like this movie was blander than unseasoned chicken with a side of mayo. Skip it if you consider watching it!
About Fate (2022)
Unexpectedly charming, loved it!
I'm a big fan of Emma Robert's work, and familiar with Thomas Mann's work as well. When I saw they would be staring in a holiday rom-com together I had to watch! Both did a great job in this movie, specifically Mann who has always had hilarious comedic timing. His character is also genuinely kind that warms your heart, something that is usually disingenuously forced in your face with other rom coms. The story was entertaining and engaging enough to keep me glued to the screen. The supporting cast did a great job as well. Was it predictable? Yeah. However, it's the best holiday rom-com I've seen of the 2022 season. I recommend!
The Little Rascals (1994)
Classic nostalgic movie for many millenials
This movie was my childhood! To this day my sister, parents, and friends will quote this movie. It's a silly, fun, and carefree movie that has a special place in my heart and for many kids/babies of the 90s.
Tall Girl 2 (2022)
A sequel about nothing!
Now I will say I wasn't really a fan of the first one to begin with. "Boo hoo privledged white girl is tall and feels bullied." The first one had that plot, so it least you could follow a narrative. This sequel has zero narrative to follow or investment.
I felt like I was watching a screenwriters poor attempt at making a story up along the way. The new characters didn't add anything to the "story", the old characters who they attempted to create depth had none, and all the alleged plots came out of nowhere. I couldn't become invested because everything seemed so discombobulated and un-natural. 3 years including a virus and this is the best they could come up with? Please.
The Tender Bar (2021)
Coming of age glory
I'm a sucker for coming of age stories, and this one didn't disappoint. I'm a fan of Tye Sheridan and his work, so I was excited to see this. Set in the early 70s, I enjoyed the soundtrack and costume design. Ben Affleck and Christopher Llyod deliver beautiful performances as well as Tye Sheridan. The message of the film isn't totally clear and ends a bit clunky. Overall I enjoyed it! It's a lovely film to pass the time on a slow day.
Riverdale (2017)
A misfortune for Teen drama shows
I watched this show when it had first premiered, like everyone else did. It became wildly popular and everyone was glued to their screens for the season 2 premiere. After that, the series went downhill.
First mistake was making the second season 24 episodes. It ran too long and the black hood story became tiresome. Second mistake was making Hiram the villain for every single season he was on. Third was the plot lines became off the charts chaotic. The first season had a decent plot line, but the remaining seasons had like 5 plot lines in one. Sometimes, less is more.
This show has become a joke and one we will probably look back on and laugh about. Yes, it's fun to make fun of the show now, but please just end it. The actors deserve so much better than this.
The show started off as a slight rip off of "Dawson's Creek" and all the other classic 2000s teen shows. It had it's potential to be great, now it does not have an identity other than incomprehensible. Disappointing.
Single All the Way (2021)
Cliché, but average
Cute movie and I love that they decided to have a gay Christmas storyline. HOWEVER, the storyline was very predictable, cliché, and made a million different times. I get the mainstream film industry is on the "beginners level" of gay cinema, but they make the audience feel dumb. Switching the genders with a tired storyline won't make it any more unpredictable. I also felt the leads lacked chemistry. I feel like the main guy and the blind date actually had more chemistry.
I did enjoy the best friend being a carpenter. As well as writing children's books. It's important to represent the gay community with a variety of interests and skills. I'm happy he was not stereotyped.
Some of the scenes were awkward. While I love Jennifer Cooliage, her scenes were misplaced and went on for too long.
Good movie to just pass the time. Nothing special.
Jonas Brothers Family Roast (2021)
Amusing, but lacked something
I was always a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers growing up and still am. Most of the jokes I already expected and knew about. It was decent but there was something missing. I feel like if Comedy Central hosted this it would be way more raunchy. It felt sort of safe to me.
Highlights were definitely Joe, Pete, and Sophie. The rest were pretty good too.
Little Fish (2020)
Beautiful
Like many others, I was hesitant to watch a film about a pandemic like virus. However, I have been a fan of Jack O' Connell's work for many years and wanted to check this out. Olivia Cooke is a fine actress as well, and it intrigued me that she is an executive producer of the film. The chemistry between Jack and Olivia is radiant. Both of them carried this movie gracefully, without the relationship feeling too forced or involuntary. The twist left me in tears! You could feel the inevitable dread of having to let someone go without hope for reconciliation. Such a honest film, highly recommend.
Home Again (2017)
Surprisingly delightful!
Really cute movie to watch on a random afternoon. Reese Witherspoon and the rest of the cast give great performances. Well developed storyline and fun to follow. Such a feel good, heartwarming movie!
A Rainy Day in New York (2019)
Delightful
Despite the controversy surrounding the film, I thought it was a witty and delightful film. The dialogue is a little unrealistic for young adults, but adds a quirk to the characters. All the actors did a great job in their respective roles. I felt the chemistry flowed on-screen with everyone. Cute movie to watch on a lazy day. Was worth the 2 year wait!
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Beautiful and Heartwarming
Just saw this on Prime Video and had to review it! I'm a huge Shia Labeouf fan and enjoy his work ever since Even Stevens. I had expectations for this movie but did not think it would impact me this much! The storyline is simple and entertaining. Perfectly cast as everyone's chemistry exudes off the screen. I was glued from beginning to end. Tugged at my heartstrings and left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Everyone NEEDS to watch this once in their life! I loved seeing people of disability being a given a chance to star in films! Zack Gottsagen is a fantastic actor above anything!
Cobra Kai (2018)
Highly addictive and beat expectations!
I was afraid that this show was going to go down route that most revivals have had. Man, was I wrong! Each episode is carefully crafted to respectfully pay tribute to the original movies and does it will class. Each character has it's story, and you don't necessarily know who to root for. That is what makes the writing great, real life isn't black and white! I love seeing Ralph Macchio come back as Daniel using what he has learned from Mr. Miyagi, as well as William Zabka come back as Johnny! Every episode had me glued to the screen, the choreography is phenomenal! All the actors do an incredible job! I cannot wait for the next season!
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Fantastic!
A great coming of age series! Cast all does an amazing job and I like the build up to the end. A lot of people complain it's slow, I was hooked up until the climactic finale! Also super smart to make the episodes short to keep us wanting more.
Starred Up (2013)
Now this is a movie
Insane! I adore Jack o' Connell as an actor and he proved me right once again. Gripping and very gritty. The performances were all terrific. Hell of a story, was sucked in throughout the whole thing.
A Prayer Before Dawn (2017)
Absolutely Stunning
Incredible film! Fantastic story, captivating performances, beautiful cinematography. I felt like I wasn't even watching a movie, it was so raw and disturbingly realistic. Joe Cole did a hell of a performance. Highly recommend for anyone who loves gritty prison films such as myself!
Santa Girl (2019)
Super cute!
I loved this movie! Not oscar worthy by all means, but a cute little Christmas movie to watch when you are bored. Love Devon and Jennifer in this! Both did great!
