Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Shame they changed the ending...
So I just watched 'Knock at the Cabin'. Based on the novel: 'The Cabin at the End of the World, by Paul Tremblay. I love the book. LOVE IT. I thought the film was beautifully shot, well acted (the little girl that played Wen was lovely and very sincere), Dave Batista was fantastic and all in all I enjoyed the film.
*SPOILERS*
I'm still going to try to be ambiguous! I can see why they had to change the last quarter of the film, I don't think that Hollywood would go for the original story!! I think that also Shyamalan is trying to steer away from the twist endings. This film ends the way you think it will if you haven't read the book.
My biggest 'issue', if you can call it that; was at the end the chap pointed out what the people were. I don't think that was needed as anyone with a brain would realise. But apart from that it was good!
Nope (2022)
His best film yet...
Don't listen to the reviews that say this film is no good! It's very good and very clever.
The main characters are brilliant. I love Emerald and Angel but the character of OJ is the best. He barely speaks throughout the film and does most of the acting with his body language. This is subtle and shows what a very good actor he is.
Don't go into this expecting your usual alien encounter film as this is different. It uses carefully planned shots and nods to let you know what is going on. This includes the parts with the chimpanzee; it is part of the story despite what you think!
I've seen this 3 times now and I noticed some more information towards the story with each watch.
Monster: Silenced (2022)
So, so sad.
Oh wow, this really was a difficult watch! I almost turned it off a couple of times and skipped the rest of this episode and started the next one. As you know what is going to happen to Tony.
Showing one of his victims as a person with a family and hopes was an absolute stroke of genius and it was done so well too. Showing you his entire life from his birth onwards.
Tony seemed like a really lovely person and seeing him portrayed as this rather than just a number or another nameless victim is probably what made it so heart wrenching to sit and watch.
I thought the actor that played him was superb.
Robot Overlords (2014)
Reminds me of the Children's Film Foundation films...
What a little gem! I'm pretty sure that if this had a different name then it may have done a bit better than it had done. Give it a go! If you like Doctor Who you will like this.
It's a thoroughly enjoyable bit of British Sci-fi. It has heart and I think that really counts. The young actors are good; especially the little lad that plays Connor.
Ben Kingsley is having a great time playing a baddie and excels at it. There's some other very famous actors in it and they are enjoying themselves too!
The special effects are good with some of them being practical rather than CGI. Gorgeous scenery and some good settings.
Moonfall (2022)
Fantastically silly
This film is a really good bit of nonsense! A proper B movie. Absolutely loved it. You can't beat a silly disaster movie. The lad from GoT is the best bit about it.
Turn off your brain, put your feet up and enjoy it for what it is!
Resident Evil (2022)
It's not THAT bad!
Yeah it's definitely not perfect but it's not as bad as people are making out.
I'm a huge Resident Evil fan and I can see why other fans are upset. But I think it's a nice nod to the franchise myself.
You can spot things like type writers, certain zombies and other stuff.
The two young actors actually grow on you after a while, though yes they are again not perfect.
Turn off your brain, put your feet up and enjoy a zombie romp.
Blasted: Gutta vs Aliens (2022)
Fab sci-fi comedy!
I don't understand the hate! This film is fun. I burst out laughing a few times at the jokes and it has heart.
Switch off your brain, switch on the subtitles and enjoy.
The Secret (2016)
Well that was morbidly interesting...
Well he was fond of going out and leaving the children unattended! Every couple of days he buggered off in the middle of the night and left them.
Basically he was a right arse wasn't he?!! A bully and a manipulative narcissist!
Very well done and well acted. James Nesbitt is always very good.
If you want a couple of hours of well written true crime; this is for you!
Station Eleven (2021)
Beautiful and layered.
Firstly, don't watch this if you like big, noisy explosions in films and think movies like 'Contact' are boring.
This is beautiful story telling. I'm not going to put any spoilers in because you need to watch instead.
It's a slow waltz of sci-fi; clever, funny, gorgeously filmed and beautifully acted.
It has a beginning and an end and it flits between the two stopping off at different points along the way.
This has to be some of the best television that I have ever seen.
Mother/Android (2021)
Melancholy but good
Please ignore the other reviews. This is a good film. I don't usually like this actress but she's very good in this.
The acting all round is strong and it's a good story.
I would class this as proper Sci-fi; where they rely on a story rather than explosions.
It starts well and covers a period after around 7 months after a robot uprising as most families have a robot butler or maid.
