Under the Dome (2013)
Someone hijacked a bad high school drama class and made a TV series.
Not sure how this was rated 6.6. Gave it a 3 for the some of the special effects.
Perhaps this was meant for the very young, but not for those that are paying attention, or can remember something for five minutes. Some of the special effects weren't bad. There are a lot of people frequently, urgently racing from Point A to Point B, but not much actually happens.
I was convinced by someone to watch this, they alleged it was sci-fi. More like Junior High.
This was a high school level soap opera. Some of the younger "actors" seemed to have been snatched from a high school drama class, with the stilted, wooden delivery. They may as well have held the script in their hand.
I only found out later that this was a Stephen King mess, or I would have avoided it. I am not sure if King intended it, or it was just that way in the TV series, but this is a large collection of the most unlikeable characters I have ever seen together. By the time I stopped watching, I was hoping some giant hand would shake the dome like a snow globe and put all of us out our misery.
There were two likeable characters early in the series, but they were killed off rather quickly, leaving a multitude of misfits to hate. Unfortunately, they did not eliminate many of these characters, doing that TV thing where they die but come back from the dead, or they merely had a close call.
Everything flip flops all the way through. It was bizarre. Even without some alien intervention, relationships, personalities, and intentions flip. Twice per show there is an immediate life or death situation that requires them to run and to speak rapid fire trying to convey some sense of urgency. Jumps from one poorly contrived situation to another as if changing channels.
Everyone in town got a chance to play sheriff. EVERYONE.
If they could find a shirt to fit you, you were qualified. Here's your badge and gun. Among them were a radio DJ, a used car salesman, the used car salesman's kid, and even a journalist. With enough alcohol, fortitude, and much use of fast forward, perhaps you will be able to watch all the way through this abomination. You will probably find the dog is sheriff by now.
Black Mountain Side (2014)
A 99 minute promotional vid for the alcohol and tobacco industry
Lovely scenery, but offers little more. I understand they are Canadian, but jeezus, how many scenes did NOT have someone smoking or drinking. Just a long tobacco and alcohol promo. It worked. I had to drink just to finish the movie.
Should have just re-watched The Thing.
Mysteria (2011)
What was Danny Glover thinking?
Danny Glover must have had a house payment due. He deserves better.
The writer in the film and the writer of this film are the same. Neither has a story.
This is a 90 minute instructional video on how to look unwashed, unkempt, chain smoke, and guzzle alcohol, while saying "I don't know" ad nauseum.
I could watch this live at the local homeless shelter.
For someone that has no money, he somehow manages to have cigarettes and liquor available at all times.
Mysteries of the Deep (2020)
The act of regurgitation
Nothing new or compelling here. It's all been done before and better. This is just a money grab, as they know there are people that are easily led. If they liked Wade in one show, they will watch him wipe his backside. River Monsters was very interesting and watchable, if overly melodramatic, and with way too much loud music. His other show, Dark Waters, though not close to River Monsters, was even better than this thing. Too much repetition within the show, too many "experts". They quick cut from "expert" to "expert" and allow each one to utter one sentence before moving to the next. The "experts" do not seem like "experts". Should stick with River Monsters format, as there are thousands of "presenters" out there that can review historical events and speculate.
Hostile (2017)
Why?
Thank God I did not pay for this. There is nothing more to say, so I was going to say nothing more, but I must to have it submitted.
The Blacklist: Hannah Hayes (No. 125) (2019)
Idiotic, unconnected plots, agendas, and a serious lack of Spader
They seem to have forgotten that this is the James Spader show. That's it. Not only was he barely seen, they have become even more agenda driven with a subplot that appears to have nothing to do with Red and not sure why this a Blacklister. Maybe it will become evident later, but I will not see it. It was just asinine filler. Most decent shows only have a few good years in them before the writing fails. Red, Dembe, Glenn, the interrogator, and Harold are the only ones worth watching. It is difficult enough to tolerate the others, especially the professional cryer, Liz. It is like watching a piece of wet cardboard. Now they bring in a new agent, just as unlikable as Liz. Really annoying and combining her with Liz is cruel and unusual punishment.
Perhaps the writer is not pushing an agenda and is simply out of ideas. Replace him if this is all he has to offer. On the upside, since we dumped Seal Team as it has become a soap opera, now we can reevaluate whether we really need to pay a cable TV bill, as those were the only two shows we watched.
One question. Why did the FBI draw their weapons if they were just going to watch the psycho execute someone?
I realize that some extreme fans will watch a show that was initially good, even after it deteriorates, and some will watch it until the bitter end. Unfortunately, not everyone will.
SEAL Team (2017)
The latest agenda driven night time soap opera
In the beginning it was quite good due to the fact that one of the cast and producers is a former Army Ranger/Delta member. They learned how to move, they carried appropriate weapons and gear and usually were accurate. There are, of course, some exceptions that slip past them in editing, and they simply do not bother to correct it or reshoot.
First season was not bad with the exception of one episode. Second season apparently out of ideas, they did five or six episodes about hunting the Mexican cartels. Watched the first episode and then found out that this was going to drag out for several weeks, so I stopped watching.
Third season and it is obvious that the PC/SJW/Girl Power cartels are heavily influencing the shows.
It was a risk putting Boreanaz in this role at his age. Now we have a geriatric Seal Team commander (50 y/o) with more issues than Time Magazine being convinced to go VEGAN, by the new love of his life. It is difficult enough to watch with the annoying "Clay" and "Mandy" characters, but it continues to deteriorate as they apparently try to appease certain groups and perhaps gain more female viewers. I was watching the most recent episode "Kill or Cure" with friends, and even my friend's wife said this is now officially a soap opera. We all agreed that it was our last episode.
Once good, has deteriorated to a soap opera with occasional military activity interspersed.
