Smokin' Aces (2006)
What a disappointment...
I was so looking forward to this movie. I was expecting a rip-roaring, crazy-shooting, good time. And it was exciting. It was action packed, but in all the wrong places.
The ending was ridiculous, only proving that Ryan Reynolds is a comedian, and can't do dramatic acting (which is not a bad thing, he is stunning as a comedic actor, he is an equal to Groucho Marx and Steve Martin, but he can't do dramatic scenes). The director tried to fill the ending with all kinds of sentimental fluff. Alicia Keyes was underused, and the hit men never collided as much as they should have.
Plus, it had too many endings syndrome. When you see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Don't Bother
This movie is a waste of money and time. The original is better, with more substance, better directing, and better musical numbers.
This is crap. The movie is all over the place. The performances are half-baked, and I hate to say it, but Johnny Depp (who I love) is all over the place, and completely improbable. The only thing it's got going for it is amazing visuals, but what's good visuals without a story?
Plus, the visuals were out of place and over the top. Nothing in the dam movie made sense.
Oh, the only good thing about the movie is Charlie. The kid who plays Charlie is brilliant. He's going to be an Oscar winner some day.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
This film is why America is going down the toilet
This film is a repugnant disgrace of a movie. Mel Gibson has used all his knowledge of film-making to make a con job that will sucker in the faithful and the religious.
It is nothing more than a massive guilt trip and propaganda and Mel Gibson should be ashamed of himself.
All this film does is make you feel guilty and disgusted, it does not even promote Jesus' message. As a Christian I am deeply offended.
There is more "movie trickery" in these two hours than in the entire Lord of The Rings trilogies. It is fake, and even dangerous, because anyone who sees this movie will be sucked in by it's grotesque "traffic accident" mentality.
Troy (2004)
I've seen student films that were better than this piece of...
This was a joke. All the hype, all the buzz, all the stars, all the action was put to waste. I expected this to be great, at least good, but it was awful. All the great actors: Brad Pitt; Brian Cox; Peter O'Toole; Brendan Gleeson; Orlando Bloom, and the only one who delivered a good performance was Eric Bana. The rest of the cast just spent their time posing for the camera.
Plus, the action was lousy, just a blur of bodies, and I didn't care about any of the characters. Action scenes are pointless if you can't follow the main characters in the dam story.
The action itself was pitiful. I've seen amateur ballets that were choreographed better. The effects and blood make-up was downright pathetic, and the production designer made it look like Never Never Land.
What angers me the most is that this film could have been great. It was set up to be amazing, and had a strong central message, but then it just got muddied up. Thank you so much Wolfgang Peterson, the same man who brought us "The Perfect Storm."
Porn 'n Chicken (2002)
A Great Comedy
This film is a great comedy, and full of not only entertaining humor, but also insight into the true nature of human... we're all horny beasts. Not only that, but it is a great date movie, especially if you and your mate are "pollymorphously perverse."
24 (2001)
The Greatest Show Ever
Without a doubt, this is the greatest television series ever. I'm a student producer at Chapman University, and every Tuesday night, an ever growing group of us reserve the biggest room at our film school, and watch the show in surround sound. It is amazing, the show is incredible, and the experience is incredible. The editing is great. The concept and plot are unbelievably original. This is quite frankly, amazing!
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Very simply...
It is the greatest film ever made. Better than Citizen Kane. It is the most visually stimulating, intelligent, amazing, unique, creative, and beautiful film ever made. It's unique blending of so many genres and techniques should be heralded.
Pi (1998)
A whirlwind Blast, like Fight Club
Pi is an amazing tornado of story and images. Acceptional for any one who is into movies or math. A deluge of images poor into your mind as you watch. In some ways it is like Fight Club, only the fighting has been replaced with Math.
Great film, highly recommended.
