Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Captain America: The Worst Avenger
*As you can guess from the title and rating I didn't really enjoy this movie. But please don't let this review stop you from enjoying the film if you did because this is just my opinion and I wanted to have a bit of fun (this is my way of enjoying things I don't like). I mean no offence to anyone who enjoyed or took part in making this film.*
I will not bother talking about all of the gripes I have about this film for 3 reasons:
1. Because if I did, this review would be longer than the script for Avengers: Endgame.
2. I haven't seen this movie since 2016 or something so I have forgotten a few details required for a full in-depth review. What I do remember though is this movie was so violently boring, I could not bear to sit through it a second time.
3. This movie is not worth enough of my time to warrant that kind of review anyway.
I have never been a Captain America fan but I at least understand that making the film take place during the second world war is an important part of setting up the character. Unfortunately, as a WW2 film it just makes me groan.
The way WW2 is depicted in this film is just insulting. I mean, these guys are supposed to be 'elite Nazis' or whatever and the worst thing they do is shoot a couple of people (and most of the shooting is done with magic guns that most likely don't even kill their victims). In fact I'm pretty sure Captain America has a higher kill count than the entirety of HYDRA. I get the whole superhero flare, but this is just polishing one of the most horrific events in history to a whole new level.
So as a WW2 film, it is a complete and utter disgrace. As a superhero film, It doesn't do a much better job.
The movie doesn't give you a lot of reason to like the captain besides the fact that he has a 'good heart' or something. Even then, I feel like he is just an annoying *little* patriotic rat who cannot live without a war. Wait, is this guy supposed to be the hero? {stares into the distance with the 'visible confusion' Obi-Wan meme in the background}. I mean it's great that he wants to serve his country in the war, but his motivations just feel wrong and I am not quite comfortable with the fact that America's 'greatest' hero is some little boy who wants to die for his own pride. Also, at the beginning of the movie he says something along the lines of "I don't want to kill anyone" yet... {commence montage of Captain America killing more people than the 'bad guys' do}. I just am not a fan of his character at all.
Another thing I hated about the film was his romance with agent Carter. I just found it awkward that this little runt who seems to be all about 'THE GLORY OF WAR!' now also wants to impress his crush by... dying? Okay movie, you do you. I don't have to watch it again (thankfully).
So to conclude:
If you want to watch a WW2 film, go watch Saving Private Ryan or something. In fact, Indiana Jones probably gives a more respectful representation of the second world war.
If you want to watch a Captain America origin story then be my guest, you may enjoy (or have enjoyed) it - I can't decide that for you. All I can say is that I don't like Captain America, I don't like this movie and I will never sit through it again.
Chihuahua: The Movie (2010)
Spoiler free because there is nothing to spoil.
Terrible acting
No plot
Painful to watch
Contains no profanity, drugs or violence.
Actually, contains nothing at all, positive or negative.
I would go into more detail about what I don't like but it is not worth my time.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The most overrated cinematic event of the decade.
I was mostly excited going to see this film when it came out in cinemas, however upon viewing I was quite disappointed.
While the action scenes were fun and there were some good laughs throughout, looking back on the film it was 3 hours of my life I will never get back. I was particularly upset with the use of time travel as a cop-out for the snap.
I found it a bit self righteous calling out various time-travel films (particularly Back to the Future) for having unrealistic time travel rules when any time travel theories that exist are already paradoxical anyway. Endgame's rules were no exception to this and also were so confusing that the film constantly had to keep breaking them to work. This was not aided by the unnecessarily complicated explanation given by Prof. Hulk.
In addition to this, the presence of time travel in the MCU now cheapens any of the sacrifices made in any of the films as the heroes can just go back and pull their friends from an alternate reality (like what they did with Gamora).
I was also dissatisfied with the whole premise of the film as being a plot to reverse what was done in the previous film rendering the two movies as pointless. I really enjoyed Infinity War, but found Endgame to be a disservice to the set up it was given.
Side note: Though I have seen all of the films except for Hulk, Capt. Marvel and Far From Home, I am not the biggest MCU fan so my opinion may be partially biased as I do quite enjoy poking fun and nitpicking the films (that is my way of enjoying them). However I tried to keep this as respectful and honest as possible by making sure that all the points I have made are my genuine opinions and not just designed to poke fun at the movie or anyone who enjoyed it.
So if you enjoyed the film, I totally respect that and am very happy for you. I just wanted to share my personal opinion.
