Troll (2022)
A B Movie about a Troll
I like a good B-movie and I enjoyed this very much :)
I think a lot went missing in translation, but that doesn't matter too much really,
I've read a review on here that a Norwegian is embarrassed, don't be, its nice to see the Norwegians do a troll tale and its pretty good, not everything has to be doom and gloom :)
A fairly formulaic storyline., but that again, was ok, we're watching it for the troll aren't we?
The special effects were actually ok for (what I think was) a relatively cheap budget, and hopefully we'll get a sequel ot two.
With the bits of comedy thrown in, it didn't take itself too seriously (I mean, its a troll film!!) also, I loved the sci-fi references,
Live Long and Prosper :)
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
SPOILERS!! disappointed and I really didn't want to be :(
Ok, so I absolutely adore the Jurassic films and I've been looking forward to Dominion for SO long! So I've watched it and having slept on it, here's my view;
I understand that the locust story was designed to get the OG's and Newbie's together, but because we didn't see the damage they caused, there was nothing to be invested in and to be fair, when the OG's and Newbie's WERE all together, it wasn't really for long.
Considering that dino's had been on the mainland for over 4 years, there was no interaction shown between them and us, and no reports of the inevitable deaths that would've been caused.
Blue was built up massively in the first World films but we hardly saw her (or Rexy) and the plot of her infant being kidnapped was useless and added nothing to the story (much like Maisie's kidnapping, but that was to show Wu)
There should have been more black market storyline as that was very interesting, but would you REALLY go between two huge dino's on a scooter?!
Unlike the Indominus, there was no backstory for the Giga and Theriz, so again, not that interesting,
and yes I know Rexy is an old girl now, but SERIOUSLY??!!?
Having help to fight a Big Bad AGAIN?
Nice to see more dino's, but again, no back-story and they were gone after a minute, so why bother?
And there was absolutely no way, the (herbivore) Theriz would've heped the (carnivore) Rexy at the end, it made no sense whatsoever.
I was disappointed at Wu not having much to do, after all he is the one responsible for dino's in the first place, and he went from being an arrogant know-it-all to suddenly caring about the damage he's caused. It was jarring.
It sounds like I'm having a go and I really don't want to cos I LOVE Jurassic, but they had plenty of time to get this right (including lock-down time) but the whole film left me feeling a bit flat because it felt like there was half a film missing.
The CGI and animatronics were (mostly) spot on (apart from Blue looking a bit dodgy at times and I didn't know which T-rex was which at the end), the scene when Claire was going into the lake/pond thing was brilliant and the nods to the original Park were fab although more could've been made of it.
Jeff, a star as always 🙂.
So to end, they should have done it over two films and the story would have been far better for it.
Reasonably enjoyable but should've done much better. (it might improve on another viewing)
5/10.
Moonfall (2022)
Brian Harper : No, we're just inside the moon. KC Houseman : That might be the greatest sentence anyone's ever said
Take your brain out of gear. And settle down to watch what is probably the most ludicrous and original film of 2022.
And you'll probably enjoy it.
The special effects were brilliant and you could tell that the cast were enjoying themselves, however I wish we'd seen more of Fuzz Aldrin.
The King's Man (2021)
needed more humour
I absolutely love the first film, with the street-smarts of Eggsy and the poshness of Harry, it just totally clicked.
The second one milked it a bit, but was ok,
this one just seemed to miss the mark - far too serious with very few amusing moments, and I'd like to see the amazing Ralph Fiennes do more comedy, maybe if they do another one they might just do that.
Night Will Fall (2014)
MUST be seen
I didn't give this documentary 10 stars to glorify this documentary, there is nothing 'glorious' about it.
It's shocking, it's graphic, It's despairing, it's numbing, more so due to the matter-of-factness about it, but it needs to be watched at least once.
People need to learn from it.
10 Rillington Place (1971)
chilling
My favourite film starring Sir Richard Attenborough.
An exceptional performance in an exceptional film.
You must watch it.
