Gandhi (1982)

India and the world needs another Gandhi.
4 February 2011
What can I say ?. Winston Churchill called him a half naked Fakir.

Albert Eisntein called him For generations to comes, one would shudder to think that such a man with flesh and blood ever walked on this earth.

For me he was the father of my nation. He was a great man who brought down the British Empire . He brought it to its knees and gave our nation freedom not by using Weapons, not by violence, not by killing but by Civil disobedience and nonviolent protest.

After his death, rest of African nations got their independence by his inspiration. Nelson Mandela ended Racism in South Africa inspired by him. The Blacks of America earned their much delayed Racial equality inspired by Gandhi.

Such great Souls rarely appear on this earth and appear only once in a generation.

Did Gandhi succeed?..........Mightily YES. Imagine you have a vast subjugated population with no literacy, no money, no brains and no propaganda tool and you are left with a task to bring down the superpower. Would you succeed.....or would you EVEN DARE to take up such a task?.

Gandhiji succeeded in that and succeeded in a big way.

Did Gandhi Fail?......Yes he failed in 1 of his endeavors. He wanted Freedom but not at the expense of Hindu-Muslim Unity. India was divided against his wishes. He failed in persuading Jinnah and Nehru to be together. India was divided and till this day Pakistan and India fight for the silliest possible reasons that man can ever comprehend. Though I might add that Gandhi had planned to visit Pakistan and perhaps who knows he might have reversed partition. But sadly someone killed him. People blame that Hindu right wing killed Gandhi. That at least is the Indian National congress story. Yes, he was killed by Nathuram Godse. But who instigated him is the question.

The only thing I know is that it was in the interests of many people not least the British, the West, Nehru and Indian National congress to keep the partition intact. So no one will ever know who killed him.

Gandhi wanted village economy, Swadeshi and self economic development. All that is lost today. We are a client state of America. Our economy, our defense is dependent on America. National news and private news channel cover about one Court case in a particular city and that makes National headlines. What about the 70% of India which lives in their villages. Why don't the farmer suicides, the farmer troubles, the issues of farmers make national headlines??? But that is not a fault of Gandhi......That is a fault of we Indians who did not follow Gandhi.

Now it is 2011, India and the world needs another Gandhiji.

3 Idiots (2009)

The Best Bollywood movie I have seen for a Long Long Long Time
10 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"3 IDIOTS" is in my books on of the best Bollywood movies ever made over the past 20 years. The only few movies which come close to matching this are Gadar, Humraaz and Kaho Na Pyar Hai.

I am a bit biased about movies from 2000-2004 period since the BEST bollywood movies came in that period. After 2004 I was increasingly becoming Disheartened by movies which were coming out lacking any reality, screenplay, direction or story.

Before 3 IDIOTS I saw the movie "Blue" which signifies what I was talking about.

But 3 IDIOTS has broken all my problems. Bollywood is back with a BANG in making BRILLIANT MOVIES.

And 3 IDIOTS is BRILLIANT, simply and spectacularly BRILLIANT.

Aamir Khan has done it again. This will be his biggest hit since 1989 Starrer QSQT!.

The storyline of the movies represents Contemporary India where Parents decide the future of the children right from birth to selecting careers to even selecting Brides!.

This movie tries to show the unfortunate problems caused by it. Invariably Indian children destroy their careers by the same Parents unknowingly.

Second this movie clearly shows the "R0T IN THE Indian EDUCATION SYSTEM".

Indian education system was created by the British to create PEONS and not THINKERS.

The result was the though India got an Army of Engineers and Software professionals (and more recently army of MBA holders).....India was not able to innovate or produce something of SUBSTANCE since that required THINKING.

But unfortunately the Indian education system destroyed the aspects of THINKING among its students.

3 IDIOTS clearly shows the Problems in Indian education system and the need to change the attitude among professors and parents alike !!.

3 IDIOTS is a must watch **********STARS.

A movie simply made to Denigrate India.
12 March 2009
I sincerely do hope that my comment gets published because I really want it to!. Firstly, I am an Indian, lived in India for 22 years before moving to US. Moreover, I am a proud Hindu if that makes any difference. And Yes, I am a proud worshiper of Shri Ram. Anyone who has a minute understanding of Hinduism will testify what was shown about him in the movie was incorrect. Anyway, in my entire life I have never gone chasing around "Innocent" Muslims. We will come to that later. I am not surprised that this particular movie won these many Oscars and that the movie was made when the government in India is a pseudo-secular supporting party. No wonder the victim was shown to be a Muslim, the Muslim Music Director and Composer who had a field day abusing the image of India won Laurels and Oscars Abroad!.

Secondly, the issue about Poverty. Yes, limbs are cut off people to make them beg in India. Yes, there is poverty present. But I have a simple question to ask?. Isn't there poverty abroad in US or UK?. Please don't tell me otherwise as I have been to Detroit, Michigan and South Chicago. For a while I was also at Downtown Los Angeles. At least a poor in India can walk safely in the night but I am not sure it would be that safe from the Homeless in Detroit, Chicago, LA or Downtown New york.

My message is this,Get over it West!. 10% of US population is homeless. If call centers and software weren't outsourced to "Third World" countries like India where the currency is artificially manipulated to be undervalued to help the almighty Dollar (Wasn't a 100 dollar bill shown in the movie?), much of the west would have already been on the streets by now. And yes, looking at the current Recession that would be inevitable it seems. Entire world knows how rich the west is when most of the Banks in US are bankrupt. Let me not go into our former "Colonial power" UK where I have heard that the situation is even worse.

Let me tell you one fact to the West whether you believe me or not. The Liberal Left Political party in India, The Congress party has ruled India for 90% of the time. They have encouraged(in fact promoted by all efforts) unimaginable poverty, slums, Muslim ghettoization because every 5 years during election time they ask them for their votes promising the gullible Indian population that this time they will improve their pathetic poverty but they do not. And now they have the audacity to promote this movie and attack the Hindu population who are largely tolerant and hard working but follow the disgusting caste system. (But believe me Caste System is NOT responsible for today's India). It is not a MATTER of pride for us that India is poor. Everyday we cry wishing that someday we can eliminate the poverty in India vis a vis China.

But this movie sadly promotes the agenda of the liberal left in India to continue to rule and to make sure that India remains poor.

Amazing thriller
31 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In one word this movie was AMAZING.

Karan Rathod (Saif Ali khan) is a smooth, Handsome, smart, cunning, clever Gangster. He perfectly well knows how to use and misuse people. He is on the lookout for his next trap...Enter Sarika (Urmila Matondkar)...a decent but innocent middle class girl living entirely alone with nobody to take care of her. Being 20 something and living alone too made her desperate.

Saif Ali Khan meets up with Urmila and without any effort Urmila falls into his trap. Saif easily tricks her, fixes her up and sends her behind bars. Poor innocent Urmila doesn't even reveal Saif's name to cops and accepts guilty. Urmila is sent to 7 years imprisonment.

At Jail, Urmila begins to understand the entire setup. It is here that she decides to take revenge. With the help of her Jail Friend, she manages to escape the prison and get the required tools (Gun etc) to get back at Saif.

Now the movie drags on and for the next 1 hour or so we see how Urmila chases Saif and fixes him up for the murder of Saifs boss......

The end is the final battle b/w Saif and Urmila which follows.....

The entire movie is fast paced and exciting. Saif Ali khan as a smooth, clever gangster is brilliant and Urmila too is good.

All in all a must see.

This movie shows the absolute farce which is Indian Society
6 March 2007
This movie truly shows the farce and hypocrisy of Indian society. What it tries to show you is only ONE side of the story. The other side of the story is the hidden emotional and mental abuse of Indian children which this movie does not show.

"Indian Parents" are culpable for the following: a. Destroying the individuality of the children by making them completely dependent on the parents at a very early age. Such children grow up to be Adults only in physical looks but remain children in minds. Since everything has been provided to them by their great Indian parents, They children automatically do not feel the need to work hard at something or learn the basics of human communication with other human beings apart from their parents.

B. I can show you so many Indian parents who try to prevent their kids making friends, going out or prevent them to do anything which starts making them to grow into adults.

The reason why they do is the same selfishness. Indian parents "expect" their children to take care of them when they grow old. They do no savings for themselves and once they reach the age of 50...They cry out LOUD......We have grown old now and so we are dependent on you children since we have done the GREAT SERVICE of bringing you to this world and taking care of you and making you intellectually weak.

Most of the Indian parents at the age of 50 have dilapidated bodies and health and are financially completely insecure. Most feel that they ABSOLUTELY have no need to take care of themselves since they "expect" their kids to take care of them.

In the west the opposite of that happens. People start planning at the age of 20 about their retirement and once they retire they are financially secure.

Indian parents do NOTHING of that sort since like I said they have brought the kids in the world and what better investment at that?.

I am a victim of my Indian parents (i am sure there are countless other Indian kids like me), who have grown up physically but are still struggling with their lives on THEIR OWN and they continue to have pestering 50 year olds who cry out loud for HELP all the time.

This movie shows only ONE side of the story.....UTTER piece of JUNK

VIVAH - A beautiful movie made by a beautiful director
9 December 2006
VIVAH is in my book THE BEST MOVIE OF 2006 ! PERIOD !!. In my book it is one of the best 100 movies EVER MADE IN Bollywood. Its sad that this movie doesn't have that many reviews and isn't having that much popularity.

VIVAH is once again a true achievement from a director who DOES it again. After HAHK and Maine Pyar Kiya Sooraj has once again pulled off a brilliant one VIVAH.

This is the most simple and cute movies that I've seen this year. After seeing Don 2 which was CRAP and later Dhoom 2 which even beat Don in that matter, I finally see a movie which is so close to my heart and my culture.

I don't know why Bollywood is moving away from the beautiful culture which we have and are making Hollywood remake style crap movies like Dhoom 2 and don.

The story is beautiful and relates much to the Indian system of Arranged marriage which I too would like to be a part of. Our system which teaches us to obey elders, follow them and of course obey their thoughts is so brilliantly shown in this movie!. Of course there isn't any force in choosing your life partner and it should be a brief meeting between the couple and its up to them to decide as it is brilliantly shown in this movie.

Coming back to the movie.....VIVAH is a story of Journey between the beautiful period of Engagement and marriage. The phase where the guy meets the girl !....Both understand each other ..Both try to assess if they could love each other for Seven generations (as our system says) and the various which occur during marriages.

Amrita Rao is brilliant in the movie.......Shahid is OK.....and Alok Nath and Anupam Kher are awesome !! The songs are BRILLIANT. ! I especially like the HAMARI SHAADI MAIN HAFTE REH GYE CHAAR and Do Anjaane Ajnabi ......

Overall A MUST SEE for anyone who still believes in the Indian culture and tradition and I certainly do !.

Go see this movie......I just have to say one word.......

BLISS !.

Don (I) (2006)

This is an Absolute Insult to AB and DON.
4 November 2006
I just saw the Movie Don yesterday and I can confidently tell that this is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life without any surge of emotions. This movie is an Absolute Insult to the original Don made in 1976 starring AB. Without any exaggeration this movie is Awful !Awful , Awful and Awful !!!! Where exactly should i start the criticism ?.......

OK first the cast :

Or more correctly the lead cast : which is SRK.........

I saw many comments in this board praising this movie and especially the lead actor SRK. I fail to understand for what reasons ! But even deep down they know that SRK absolutely sucks in movies or more precisely Action movies. He does wonderfully well in Movies made by directors such as Karan Johar who are good in making movies which have plenty of Romance and lots of "Rona Dhona".

Why did the director Frhan ever make a mockery of the original Don is hard to understand . The songs especially the "Khaike Paan Banaras Waala " has completely ridiculed the original AB song.

Sorry SRK you don't even come CLOSE TO 1 % in trying to imitate the original song.

Absolute mockery made to AB and the song which is a legend ....

And about the movie .....It is dumb from the beginning to the End. I mean there are so many scenes in which the actual plot itself sucks. The ending was the icing in the cake for the entire movie......Amazing in the way SRK swapped beds with his look alike ......

In short if I was given a chance I would give - 10 to this movie or more if possible ... .SRK if possible do apologize to AB .

If anyone else wants to see this movie .....My advice to you is save yourself a few pennies by avoiding this movie !!!! please the movie is bad !!!!!

One of the best comedy movie ever made in Bollywood
23 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The movie Andaz Apna Apna in my books is the top 5 intelligent comedy movies ever made in Bollywood perhaps even Hollywood.

When the movie released i was a 8 year old and I heard it was a flop but I never understood till now why was it a flop...but let me tell you one thing...this movie would have more money by selling home Cassettes and DVDs and by showing in TV movie channels than any hit movie in theaters. This movie has been shown countless times in Movie channels and I think even now the public love and the TV producers keep repeating the movie again and again. I personally have watched the entire movie more than 80 -100 times and I still love it.....

The performance by both Aamir khan as Amar and Salman khan as Prem is mind blowing but i especially liked the performance of Aamir khan as a street smart guy....his dialogs in the movie are Hilarious... the story is simple and heres how it goes.....

Amar and Prem are poor , lazy chaps and come from a poor family of tailors and Amars father is a barber. Then they both get a news that a Millionaire 's daughter from London is coming to India to look for a suitable match ...both Amar and Prem think that this is a brilliant opportunity to become super rich.....therefore they both head out to woo Raveena Tandon..(the millionaires daughter)......in their journey they both hate each other and each one of them try to fool the other in order to marry Raveena.....the comedy scenes in between are so hilarious that you would need a glass of water to stop the pain in your stomach by laughing.......and then there is Raveenas Uncle (Millionaire's look alike brother) Teja who wants to take revenge from Raveenas father.....since he is broke and Raveenas dad is a millionaire......his plans include kidnapping Raveena to blackmail Raveenas dad for which he hires 2 butlers.....

but later on we get to know that there is a twist in the movie (watch the movie to know).......then there is Shakti Kapoor as crime master Gogo who is also incredibly funny......

The thing which stood out for me were the dialogs in the movie which has become a legend of sorts.....Aamir khan uses his "aaila " brilliantly and Salman goes like "OOima "........and for Gogo there is " Jab Raat Ko Bacha Soota Nahi Hain to Ma Bolti Hain Ki Sooja Nahi to Gogo Aa Jaega" ......each and every scene is so funny......

I especially liked the one in which Aamir khan and Salman goto get Raveena from Teja and they both go in a Luna having "chillar" money in a bag....that scene is so funny..

I recommend anyone who understands Hindi or Urdu to watch this movie ......this is one movie that I would recommend having a DVD and you will never regret.......

Krrish (2006)

Excellent Movie
10 July 2006
Krrish is the first attempt by an Indian director to make an Sci - fi movie and he has done an excellent job. Let me tell you its not easy to make a movie. Those people who criticize Krrish to be a mix of superman, batman and what not are just criticizing the movie for the SAKE of it. I would recommend those people to make a movie first and then understand how difficult it is..... All directors cannot be steven spielbergs and I think Rakesh Roshan has done a good job . And this is just his first attempt........give Bollywood time and the day is not far when they would make even better movies than Hollywood. Hrithik was just awesome and he is in my books the best dancer in bollywood right now. Eagerly waiting for the next sequel too......
