Tour de France: Unchained (2023)
Drive to Survive - Tour de France edition
After the succes of Drive to Survive, Netflix decided to create a similar series about the worlds biggest bike race: Le Tour de France.
Just like Drive to Survive, Tour de France, au coeur du peleton (In the heart of the peleton) relies heavily on great images and exciting footage and music and supposed conflicts between riders and teams. The creators also tried to bring across the horrific effort the riders have to make each day. The just in time finish of Fabio Jakobsen was a good addition but in the end, eight episodes with a lot of other stories is a bit short for this.
In future years In hope they will extend the series to 10 episodes or more and that more teams will participate. I also hope they will not make the same mistake as the creators of with Drive to Survive did by focusing to much on conflicts and pulling comments out of context.
I did enjoy this first season though and rate it 7/10 plus one point extra for encouraging the makers to make another season.
Star Trek: Picard: The Star Gazer (2022)
Not ... again
This episode is arguebly the best Star Trek episode in recent history. STP does however rely way to much on nostalgia for my taste. Other Star Trek series had a single episode in which a senior character of the previous series had a guest role and then the new characters were introduced. In this episode no less than three blasts from the past were brought back from retirement. Guinan hopefully has a small part, John de Lancie as Q has always been fun and I hope they don't make him PC. I am severly disappointed about the return of the Borg Queen though. The whole idea of the Borg operating as a single consciousness in which the loss of a number of drones or a cube did not diminish the species was what, in my opinion, what makes then Borg frightening. The introduction of the queen In Voyager made the Borg look weak. So Janeway crippled the Borg by killing the queen. Picard killed her (again) in First Contact, stating that she was one of a kind. Now there is a new queen, looking a lot sillier. They should have let her rest in peace.
Dragon Quest: Your Story (2019)
Movie for 6 year olds and fans of the games
It's nice to see that fans of the games like the movie but it is actually not so good. The pacing is horrible and the screenplay is bad. The graphics are mediocre and so is most of the English voice-acting. The only redeeming factor is that my 6-year old liked the most of it but even she got bored after an hour.
