LOC: Kargil (2003)
Long and boring
The long hyped LOC Kargil movie turned out to be a load of crap, once again, much to the disappointment of eager viewers. When it comes to movies like these, the director should concentrate most on the battle scenes but those are the most flawed portions of the film. Basically ever single battle is the same where two groups of soldiers keep shooting each other until the Indians finally bring a Carl Gustav Rocket launcher and blow up the enemy position. The fight sequences are corny and poorly done. One wonders why they did'nt do that in the first place? Next, the Indian airforce is hardly ever seen. Next, there are long and pointless and crappy songs. Next, there is no story nor any subplots nor any satisfaction of seeing any objectives achieved by the soldiers. Watch it on TV or DVD but I would'nt waste my time in the theatre. Watch it for the witty dialog and some amusing scenes. If you want to watch an Indian war movie, go watch Lakshya instead.
Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)
Disappointing after a long wait.
If this was how the Indian 1857 mutiny or revolution took place, the Indians would collectively kill themselves. Despite a few good moments, some good lines of dialog and splendid performance by er...Toby Stephens, this movie sucks and will disappoint every viewer who patiently waited for it due to its important historic theme. Aaamir Khan (Mangal Pandey) does less fighting and spends more time being drunk and visiting prostitutes. With loads of irrelevant crap filling up the time period, the actual instigation of this historic event is limited to one stupid scene where out of the blue, pork and beef is discovered to be in use while preparing the new cartridges. The Parsis, a very important community of India, are also shown in bad light. This movie is a disgrace. No wonder it flopped so badly. Questions also arrive when you look at how Aamir khan plays a terrorist apologist in Fanaa.
Meng long guo jiang (1972)
Karate vs Kung Fu
This film is good when a little bit of story and a little bit of anything else besides fighting appears but thats not saying much. The fights in this movie are not anywhere nearly as well choreographed as Sammo Hung's movies for example, but that simply cannot be expected from Bruce Lee. Realism or not, its simply not very engaging. And there are plenty of fights in this movie. The biggest flaw would be something found in all Bruce Lee movies, that being his nigh invulnerability. At not one point during any fight does he seem to be having a hard time. The second thing is that while Karate and Kungu are very interesting to compare, Bruce less slanders Karate a bit too much.
