Change Your Image

I've been watching a lot of movies lately--almost one per day--and only ones that stand out surprise me anymore. The rest are just moving images with no meaning attached.
Like living dreams, my favourite shows always get cancelled.

La meglio gioventù (2003)
A Beautiful Trip Around Italy, and a Beautiful Trip Through Life
Let me say this right away: When I borrowed this from the library, I had four exams to study for and no idea that it was a mini-series. So I started watching it, and finished in less than two days, having dropped all my studying. That is how much I was deeply moved and touched by this masterpiece.
Not many films can endure the kind of multi-generation story lines that books can. This film is one of the rare exceptions.
The characters are well-developed and complex; fully human. I quickly became emotionally invested in the family. Their dreams were my dreams, their achievement also mine, their failures my fault.
The beautiful scenery takes you all throughout Italy, and as the characters are involved in events that take place in the background, it places a nice historical touch to what would otherwise be just a Carati soap opera.
Some parts are a bit on the melodramatic side but it's expected for TV these days, right? The only quibble I have with this is that it's made for TV, which means the cinematography is too. There were too many close-ups and I felt pretty uncomfortable with that.
All in all, though, it's a lesson about all the people, places, and memories that haunt you throughout your life. And that's worth much more than failing four exams.
Panic Room (2002)
Less talk, more action please
It was overall an okay movie. I kept on looking at the clock (watched it at home) to see when it was over. The robbers could have talked and fought less and done more things. It wasn't all that "thrilling" for a movie in the Thriller genre.
A Walk to Remember (2002)
Good...if this was the only movie in the world.
This movie has the word cliche written all over it. The writers just HAD nothing else to write about. No creativity. Okay. Just because some girls were crying doesn't mean all of them were, including me. I went to go see this movie with my friends. By the time the movie was over, two of my friends sitting next to me were asking for tissues, while I was laughing my head off. I mean, there really is no plot to this movie. There's no moral, no beginning, no ending to this movie. No conclusion. When the credits start, with good movies I usually just stare at the screen and ask myself, "It's over?" and go through an overview of what the movie was like. With this movie, all I said to myself was, "Yes! It's over!" And the music, especially the theme song, Cry is so phony. I used to actually like Mandy Moore until she did this movie. I haven't seen Here On Earth or Love Story, but I could tell by the plot line that this is so similar! Predictable plot, bad acting, typical teenage movies. I was just wondering...did people produce this thing for lack of better entertainment?

Great!
This is a great film about a teenager overcoming both his physical and emotional pain. Played by Tyler Hynes, the story is based on Jonathan Wamback being bullied by a gang of teens. You really should watch it.
