Siti hyunteo (2011)
Action-packed excitement!
Although this show might have started off slow and boring for me by the end I was gripping on to my seat in nerve-wracking anticipation. The action was authentic and the characters completely lovable. I would like to have seen more romance between the lead couple but their chemistry either way was evident. The plot had a few loose ends and I hated the ending which left me feeling unfulfilled, but I'll forgive the makers on the grounds that I loved the series as a whole. I would definitely recommend watching this to anyone who loves the good looking hero with a hidden identity trying to save the world and protect his lady love, etc etc.
Mirror Mirror (2012)
Weird, wacky, warped
Firstly, I'm a big fan of the classic fairy tales and though the Disney's PG13 versions are entertaining, frankly I'd like to see something with a bit more grit in it. The original Snow White certainly wasn't a sweet, enchanting love story. Well this one was.
The evil Queen wasn't evil enough for me. There was no huntsman. And the Prince appeared all to soon (with a mighty sense of humour and a slight lack of nobleness or decorum - not that I was complaining the guy was shirtless half the time).
If you're looking for a fun, comedy-ish, sort of movie I'd recommend this to you. Not if you want something that's a true adaptation or even slightly close.
The Three Musketeers (2011)
Limited
The Three Musketeers has been made and remade at least a dozen times in history after Alexander Dumas's writing came out. We keep expecting the next one to be better than the last and perhaps it's that expectation that lets us down sometimes.
The movie has some wonderful effects and visuals thanks to modern technology and advancements in cinema but that's all I enjoyed. The actors were fantastic people but used poorly and did not have enough role to bring out the characters they were meant to portray. And the cliché dialogues brought this one down.
It's a nice one if you're not expecting too much historical accuracy or anything else but I personally have seen older versions of the same movie which are far better.
Easy A (2010)
Refreshing and Intelligent
When I sat down to watch this movie I wasn't expecting anything more than a boring, half-spun, tale of a misunderstood teenager where everything in her life goes wrong and she does stupid things to set them right. Throw in a love affair or two in there too.
But NO. Easy A was surprisingly thought provoking and hilarious. It was simply and clean cut. The execution was flawless for such a simple plot. The characters were well written and the actors who played them were well cast.
After having seen a string of unoriginal, bland chick flicks the genre has basically been reduced to a category of nonsensical, waste-time movies in my opinion. It's wonderful to see some intelligent film makers out there who can combine the woes of growing up, make a lesson of it and portray it in a comic light.
There is nothing about this movie that I disliked... except that it was too short. I hope they make a sequel. I recommend you go watch it.
