Everybody Loves Raymond (1996)
Hilarious!!
This episode was hilariously funny. I think of it often. Robert's date was a big fan of frogs and she ate flies. Raymond saw her eat a fly after dinner and just sat and stared at her. She was so funny. He was so hilarious!! I thought I'd split a gut. Then Ray goes into the kitchen to tell Debra what he saw and she didn't believe him. Robert didn't believe Ray either. He thought Ray was jealous because he finally found a beautiful girl that loved him. So he goes to her apartment and she's got frogs all over the bedroom in aquariums. She goes into the bathroom and slips in a green nightie and comes back out and realizes Robert has discovered her secret. She catches him slipping out the bedroom window in the rain. A definite watch. Great writers. Great comedians!!
Six Days Seven Nights (1998)
Some fun comedic situations-
I watch this movie every so often. I think Ford and Heche work well together. I like their chemistry. Anne has some good comedic chops. She's a riot. And Ford is fun to watch as well. It has some good lines. Is it an award winning movie? Probably not, but it's still a fun one to watch. I'd give it two thumbs up. Enjoy!
Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
Great fun!
I didn't love this movie the first time I saw it (at home). But then I couldn't stop thinking about it. Since then, I've seen it probably 10 more times. It kind of reminds me of the good old westerns from days gone by but with a twist.
It's a great story, you get to know a lot of the characters and their backstory, the effects are very believable and there's many well known actors that do a great job with their roles. Even the young boy does some wonderful acting. I really love it!! I'd love to see a sequel. I wish I had seen it in the theaters. It was probably even more dramatic on the big screen.
Virgin River (2019)
Better writing PLEEESE!!!
I really like this series and it has good potential but I just finished season 3, and I don't know if I can take another season. I'll probably just read the episode synopsis?!!? Develop the characters into something more than just putting out fires/disasters. And whatever you do - have the lead characters stop saying things like, "let me know if there's anything I can do to help" at the end of EVERY SCENE. I'm sure hoping for something better if there's a season 4.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Hmm . . .
My daughter loves this movie so I looked at it again to see if I missed something.
It is visually stunning to be sure. And the acting is done extremely well by all.
I haven't read the book and I know very little of Japanese culture. Or Chinese.
I have two issues with the movie - the first one being the young pre-teen? Girl falling in love with an older married man and eventually they end up together. When will our society stop having older married men ending up with young girls? (Creeps and predators). But I guess that's the story behind the book. So . . .
The second issue I have is in many of the other movie comments, I guess. Many people don't like the fact that Chinese women are playing Japanese women. Isn't that the role of an actor? -to play something they're not? Why is everyone so unhappy when people from one race play another? No one gets upset if an actor plays a spy, criminal, housewife, or even a tree. I thought the job of an actor is to dress up, put on some makeup and role play, and hopefully provide entertainment for people who need an escape from everyday life for a few hours. (Also not to have an agenda driven into their brains-just delightful entertainment and a diversion from the norm).
The Great Pottery Throw Down (2015)
I'd love to see more seasons!!
I loved the first two seasons. I'm not a Brit so I'm learning lots of quirky British sayings. Sometimes it's really hard to understand some of the contestants but I absolutely love watching them create something new with each episode. It would be nice to have the projects a little less complicated, i.e. Season 1 & 2. When the projects get too hard, people don't have the experience or time to do well on them so everything goes amuck.
I loved the hostess, Sara, for the first two seasons. Season 3 & 4 went a little wonky for me. It got unpleasant with all the sexual innuendo. I mean, l liked it more when the focus was on the projects.
There also was a little too much emotion from everyone as the seasons progressed. It felt a bit like group therapy sometimes. It would be lovely to see Sara Cox again.
The Sea Gypsies (1978)
I'm glad this wasn't me!
I saw this movie 2 years after high school. I loved it then as it was an adventure. After watching it now, 43 years later, I realize it's dated. The actors didn't turn in Oscar winning performances. But it's a fun, family-friendly story that lets me know it's ok to be a city dweller. I have no sailing experience and very little camping skills. I would NOT have faired as well as this little family.
I wish the movie name had stayed Sea Gypsies, as the title Ship Wrecked kind of gives it away.
I love the theme music. I don't think movie music ever gets enough credit. I LOVE movie soundtracks! And I LOVE musicals-not that this is one.
I thought the romance element and blending of people into a family was a nice touch. I was impressed by the problem solving skills portrayed and the ability of the family to roll with the punches.
To enjoy this movie, you should move your thoughts back about 40 years when life was SO much more simple. I think it's a fun, feel-good treasure. Still.
