An error has ocurred. Please try againI've seen every single episode of The Simpsons. With an obvious downfall in quality over the years, I went back and viewed the user ratings for every episode. It's plainly obvious which episodes the audience like and dislike. Thought I'd share my findings with everyone else.
Reviews
The Simpsons: Highway to Well (2020)
Rubbish.
We get it. Everyone smokes weed. But the people who bang on about it are the most annoying. You don't have to post it all over your social media feeds...
And that's exactly what this episode felt like. The story line literally nobody asked for!
At the end they try to pressure Marge into taking Cannabis? Really? Jesus, what message is this episode trying to say? Peer pressure is good?(!)
Just do your own thing. And avoid The Simpsons after season 17.
The Simpsons: Better Off Ned (2020)
Another run of the mill season 31 ep
Oh look... yet another episode about Christian prayer and religion. How many of these episodes are they gonna stick down our throats these past 2 years?
They really have run out of ideas, haven't they?
A completely forget and unfunny episode.
The Simpsons: Screenless (2020)
Another laugh-less dull episode.
Julie Kavner has shredded her voice after 33 years. So many of the characters sound so off for the past few years. It's so distracting.
The plot was so weak and watered down, it barely felt like there was a main plot point for the episode. It was just 20 minutes of jumble stuck together and aired in order to keep the $$$ rolling in. A very forgetful and boring episode.
The Simpsons has had so many tech-related episodes in the past decade or so, and they are always some of the weakest in the series. Another reason why Classic Simpsons was so good - a time before hand-held devices and the internet ruled story lines.
The Simpsons: Bart the Bad Guy (2020)
Terrible episode.
So the premise of the episode is set around a really lame Avengers parody. I already hated it within the first 20 seconds. But yes, it goes on for 22 damn minutes.
It is an incredibly lame plot and not a single joke is funny. I felt like Homer at 1 minute 40 seconds (spoiler alert - he's sleeping).
Yet more evidence that The Simpsons does not do good social commentary. "Hello fellow kids on the internet, this is what you like isn't it? Please watch our episodes, we need more money!"
Glen's character does the worst Australian accent I've ever heard. I thought The Simpsons were done using stereotypes, after retiring Apu. This does not look good, just more embarrassment... "Koo-ka-berra"...? Jesus that's bad.
Rick And Morty already did The Vindicators, and it was a million times better.
The Simpsons: Frinkcoin (2020)
Another boring factory-packaged episode
A completely forgetful and dull episode, littered with annoying musical numbers. Avoid if possible.
The Simpsons: The Miseducation of Lisa Simpson (2020)
Just terrible
Insufferable. Can The Simpsons PLEASE stop trying and failing to be relevant. It's so embarrassing. Another totally forgetful and lame episode, being churned and pumped out by the machine known as The Simpsons.
The Simpsons: Hail to the Teeth (2020)
Boring, weird, insufferable
Another boring and pointless rehash of unlikable old characters
It had a confusing misogynistic middle section. I understand they're trying to make social commentary, but this doesnt do a particularly good job of it.
This episode was just full out weird. Have the Simpsons writers finally gone too far? Artie should be bloody arrested or something. Stupid plot.
The voice of Martin has been replaced due to the original actor's sad death. Feels a bit wrong if you ask me to get a new actor. The voice is CLEARLY different, and seems quite an insult. They should just retire her characters and ultimately... it's definitely time to shut the show down! It's dying a slow and very painful death
The Simpsons: Bobby, It's Cold Outside (2019)
Just when I thought The Simpsons couldn't sink any lower
It's hard to dislike an episode with Kelsey Grammer - an absolute delight to bless the cast...
But this episode gets an instant 1 star due to being soiled by the Baby Shark scene. Viewers, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Utterly disgusting
The Simpsons: Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? (2019)
"I don't want any damn modern Simpsons"
To miss-quote Todd from season 3.
An incredibly boring, predictable and preachy episode. I wanted to turn it off after 5 minutes. Just awful.
The Simpsons: Livin la Pura Vida (2019)
Interesting idea, terribly written
Another episode which just exaggerates well-known characters into becoming parodies of themselves. Lisa nowadays is content on just ruining everything for everybody else. Marge for some reason is upset that Homer is getting along well with Patty's new girlfriend. Why is that a bad thing? Surely you want your family to get on well together. Stupid.
And there's no way Milhouse's parents would be able to afford to go to Costa Rica annually. So the whole plot point is flawed from the get go.
The plot was pretty lousy. The episode was set in Costa Rica, and having been there myself, I know how amazing the country is. I was excited to watch this episode. Sadly you saw hardly any of the country in this episode, as it was mostly set in hotel rooms! What a waste! Not even one sloth seen, I thought that was, like, the whole point of visiting Costa Rica.
I feel so embarrassed seeing people say in the reviews that this is the best episode this season / in a long time. That says a lot about the quality of the show these days. If THIS is the best the writers have to offer, then I weep.
The Simpsons: Marge the Lumberjill (2019)
What exactly were the writers trying to get across?
Ironic how the whole first act was about Marge realising people think she's boring. Well damn right, I was falling asleep in my chair at this frustratingly boring storyline.
All the characters in this episode were annoyingly insecure. Homer thinks a woman is falling in love with Marge, despite there being absolutely zero evidence of this. Because a woman is gay, she is supposed to lust after every other woman?? What an outdated and disgusting view point. LGBT people have morals as well, you know!
This episode felt so hollow and pointless, and you reach the end of it feeling nothing but relief that it is finally over.
A few other points to note, which made me hate the episode even more:
I said it before, but i'll say it again. Kevin Michael Richardson has an incredibly annoying voice, and his characters infuriate me.
The song playing over the lumberjill montage and over the credits is so annoying!
Maybe I was missing something, but I didn't "get" any of the Portland jokes. Maybe they just weren't funny at all, and there was nothing to "get".
Over all, a particularly bad episode, even by season 31 standards.
The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXX (2019)
Season 31 is scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel
It really was another terrible Treehouse of Horror. A truly uninspired boring episode.
The first act was incredibly dull. Just because it's a cultural reference to a Netflix series doesn't instantly make it funny. Where were the jokes? The Simpsons already did a "send off" to Stranger Things last season and it was terrible then also.
The second act barely even made sense. It wasn't scary, nor was it funny.
The final act was clearly just a filler to oblige by the Kang and Kodos Halloween tradition... Boring and again painfully unfunny.
I didn't think it possible, but this both sucks and blows
The Simpsons: Go Big or Go Homer (2019)
Is it over yet?
This episode was full of so many annoying characters, mainly an infuriating weirdo from Jersey who for some reason had an unhealthy and unexplained obsession with Homer
I couldn't wait for this boring and annoying episode to finish
The Simpsons: The Winter of Our Monetized Content (2019)
To quote Bart in this episode: "This feels kind of lame"
What an insufferable beginning to the episode, and it didn't get any better.
I hate anybody that uses the word "hipster" unironically. What an insufferable character, written by a writer who has no idea what they're doing. The amount of annoying cultural references just made me angry. Simpsons episodes before modern technology was a billion times better, because it didn't rely on devices and current events for humour.
The plot was about a really boring subject matter, and the episode was littered with unfunny jokes.
I wasn't expecting it to be good, so season 31 has a predictably terrible start.
The Simpsons: Crystal Blue-Haired Persuasion (2019)
Unenjoyable, from start to finish
Such a cringey episode. Okay Karen, crystals.... It's funny how The Simpsons manages to filter the worst of everything into their modern episodes.
A side note, Marge ruthlessly opens a competing stall next to her rival in the mall? And yet I feel no empathy for Marge. She's being unfair, and I just feel sorry for her rival. So what is the point or message in it? What a trivial episode!
And has anybody else noticed how bad the voice actors have gotten? Marge's voice has been getting noticeably strained for the past 2 or 3 seasons. Dr Nick and Cletus sounded nothing like themselves in this episode. Clearly even the voice actors are starting to struggle putting up with this rubbish. It really is time for this series to be put to bed - 15 years too late.
The Simpsons: Bart vs. Itchy & Scratchy (2019)
One of the most pointless episodes in existence
This is a storyline literally nobody asked for. The writer's attempt at social commentary was better off not spoken about.
One thing that also bugs me is the inconsistency with the bullies of Springfield. In some episodes (such as this) they are shown to be friends of Bart, and hang out with him at his house. In other episodes, they are his sworn enemies and he avoids them at all costs. Can the writers make their minds up, please?!
This episode featured an anti-feminist men's group, and a man-hating terrorist feminist group? What was the message in this? The plot was weak and messy, and misrepresents every side of the argument. The girl's group were fighting for the right to wear sandals, and were only satiated at the end when they made the boys cry. Really? Like.. really?!
As a male, I agree with the feminist movement, but nothing positive came out of this episode. The lesson at the end was apparently "it's time for women to get their own back". That is not what feminism is about. This episode covered nothing of the real issues in today's society. Ultimately, this episode has no purpose as there wasn't even one joke throughout.
The Simpsons: E My Sports (2019)
"Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!", or in this case "South Park did it!"
This episode is a far less funny attempt at what South Park did 13 years ago (Make Love, Not Warcraft). A very boring episode.
The Simpsons (1989)
Golden era a clear 10/10. But awful for the past 15 years
This really pains me to leave such a low rating... but you have to weigh up the good and bad sides of the show. There are now more BAD episodes than there are GOOD, so you have to give it a rating of under 5.
I have watched, and own, every single episode of The Simpsons. These are how they rate:
Seasons 1 - 11 = Good to outright the best TV in history
Seasons 12 - 17 = A bit meh, but still watchable
Seasons 18 - 31+ = Downright awful
11 years of great; 13 years of god awful; and 5 years of "could go either way".
Classic Simpsons is still my favourite show of all time. But the bad has overlapped the good for a long time now.
The Simpsons: I Want You (She's So Heavy) (2019)
Nothing enjoyable about it.
Their attempt at a New Zealand accent was so painfully bad, it was embarrassing. I had no idea what they were even attempting until the character said where he was from. Apparently "core" is pronounced "goo-ahh"... THIS IS NOT WHAT NEW ZEALANDERS SOUND LIKE. All the jokes fall so flat.
With the title a reference to one of my favourite Beatles songs, I had high hopes.
Sadly it wasn't to be. Pass.
The Simpsons: 101 Mitigations (2019)
Awful writing, as uaul
So Homer joy rides in someone else's car, and the rest of the plot is spent trying to stop Homer going to jail. So where is the writer's moral compass?
I got so tired of this one so quickly. Just stick him in jail - he took someone's car, and then broke into Comic Book Guy's store! I really struggled to feel any empathy for the characters in this episode. A bad, bad plot.
The Simpsons: The Clown Stays in the Picture (2019)
"Meh"
A pretty boring plot, which for some reason involved the whole of Springfield... A big "meh".
The Simpsons: I'm Dancing as Fat as I Can (2019)
How can anybody rate this 10 out of 10?
Seriously.. are they getting paid for this?
The whole premise of this episode was Homer watching a rip off of Stranger Things without Marge. Yes, you heard that right... Homer watches something on Netflix without Marge... wow big woop. This is the same show that had Mr Burns block out the sun. Their ideas really are getting tired now.
So apparently Marge is infuriated by this, and goes all passive-aggressive on Homer, and he spends the episode trying to reconcile her. This is basically the episode summed up.
The B-story is completely pointless and not entertaining. Spare yourself from watching this train-wreck.
The Simpsons: The Girl on the Bus (2019)
Strange and dull
I found it very weird that Lisa breaks character by skiving off school, and randomly enters the house of a complete stranger? And then is suddenly accepted like she didn't just illegally enter someone's house... Weird.
A strange episode, and even more nonsensical ending.
The Simpsons: Mad About the Toy (2019)
NOT an award winning episode.
Firstly, how on Earth did this episode win an Emmy? How embarrassing! Shows just how corrupt those award shows are, as I haven't seen one person who actually enjoyed the episode.
Simply put, The Simpsons has run on for too long. For Abe to have been in his mid-20s or 30s fighting in WWII, he would now be over 100 years old. This is a serious plot hole in modern Simpsons, as he clearly isn't quite that old in the show.
That aside, the first 5 minutes of the show has a few moments of brief, but the plot really went downhill. We could of had an episode confronting the bad things Abe may or may not have done during the war... a real deep-meaning and hard-hitting episode. But instead Abe turns out to be a model and potentially gay...(?)
Abe says a man kissed him in 1947. So for some reason, 72 years later, he goes to Texas to find him after realising he loves this man. Seriously? 7 decades later, after one unrequited kiss? This plot is stupid! And simply put, offensive to homosexuals.
Some things gave me a chuckle through the episode - so not as terrible as most modern episodes - but the plot was very bad. I really don't understand the point of this episode, as nothing comes out of it.
The Simpsons: Krusty the Clown (2018)
Had some potential - but another hit and miss episode
The car chase scene had some great animation, but the overall plot was pretty daft.
A very forgetful episode. It started off semi-hopeful, but as stated by another, it quickly nosedived.
