Homestead (2023)
What is missing...
1. Animals. It is set on an isolated homestead. Yet, there is no livestock. This is a western with not a single horse. How did the gang of bad guys get across country..bus?
2. Injuries that stay, well, injured. Bad guy gets stabbed in the foot. In following scenes there is a total absence of blood on, well, boots, floor etc.
3. Dead guys that stay dead. Dead man's buddy picks him up from the porch, and dead guy lifts his arm to hold on.
The plot holds together, but is highly derivative. And why do they keep the ammo in a box on the hill, and not in the house?
Had some attention been given to continuity, and stitching together some plot holes that were overly large, and given the gang horses and not Shank's pony, it would not have been such a frustrating watch.
The Girl on the Mountain (2022)
No effort on detail
Terrific scenery. It stops there. If any musicians were actually playing (daughter excluded, she couldn't even pretend convincingly), it did not match the soundtrack. So, Jack's score was jotted in a notebook and scored for piano? And he took his phone out during a performance? The first three minutes set us up for a comedy of sloppy film-making. And why did his daughter suddenly walk out into the path of the only car on the road, coming towards her with lights on? And then there was the posse of villains, who get out of the car, and walk on into the night, leaving the car with its lights on. Dumb is as dumb gets.
Really, the lack of research, attention to detail and common sense destroyed what credibility the movie may have had. Shame, because the basic premise was sound, despite the execution.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
So annoying
Made it to 1/3 through first episode:
1. Why is everything so clean? Nothing - costumes, sets etc - seemed used or lived in;
2. Henry Thomas - was his prep watching every Colin Firth movie, and getting it oh, so wrong?
3. The car trip to Bly - no seat belts? In the UK?
4. Meeting Flora - was the dialogue ghost-written (haha) by Enid Blyton?
At that point we had had enough of it. Credibility can be stretched only so far.
