Crew (2024)
Fantastic Entertainment
The Crew is an exciting movie. It comes up with a novel presentation of a story which is not very strong. However, the performances of the lead actresses, the supporting cast and the music makes the journey a lot of fun.
Crew is a simple story of 3 women choosing the wrong path to escape the financial stress caused due to unpaid salaries of 6 months. The movie is somewhere taken the base of the financial debacle of Kingfisher Airlines without trying to preach anything as such. It is purely meant to entertain.
The movie screenplay is very tight in most places, the humour is right in place, and the character sketch is well drawn.
Speaking of performances: Tabu is in peak form, Kareena is fun, Kriti manages to be cute. For the supporting cast Rajesh Sharma has done good work.
Music is awesome. Good weekend watch to enjoy with family or friends.
Fighter (2024)
Well Made but Wrongly Timed
Fighter is released at a wrong period. The storyline of India vs Pakistan has gotten very boring. Over dosage of similar storyline in the past year with plenty of movies made on this topic like Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2, The Kerala Story, Kashmir Files etc.
The effort to capture air stunts is new for Indian cinema and there has been a lot of hard work done in that area for which the makers are to be complimented.
One question to Bollywood writers - why in every movie the best friend of the hero dies/ captured and his widowed wife blames him. This angle is beaten to death.
Stand out scenes -
1. The first interaction of Hrithik with the Pakistani pilot
2. The scene before intermission where Taj gets captured
3. Hrithik and Ashutosh Rana scene
Hrithik Roshan has done a fantastic job and one can't imagine any one else playing the role so convincingly.
Bholaa (2023)
Something really fresh
I went to watch Bhola after watching the trailer expecting it to have a lot of new type of action and frankly the movie does live upto the expectation I had. Long years back Ajay Devgun had made an appearance in a Dharma Production movie Kaal. His body language has the same undertone.
The story of the movie is simple and straightforward. But the performances, action, cinematography make it a master piece. The pacing of the movie is very apt. There is never a dull moment.
The story of Bhola is set in one fateful night, where chance makes Bhola meet a damsel in distress played by Tabu. To save the life of some police officers Ajay gets on to the ride with Tabu. What happens next forms the whole movie. There is a father and daughter angle to the movie and a dark secret of Bhola's past which will be dived in Part 2 of the movie.
Speaking of performances, Ajay Devgan is first rate. Though he has minimum dialogues he lets his body language and physique to much of the work. Tabu is dependable as usual. She slips into the character with at most comfort. Deepak Dobriyal as the antagonist is exciting to watch. He bring in a new element to the villainous category. Rest of the actors are used to move the story line forward.
The music is just right for the tone of the movie and so is the sound design. Action stunts are completely new and have not been seen in any Bollywood or Hollywood movie so far. Full marks to the team for this.
So this weekend enjoy Bhola with your family.
Ghar Waapsi (2022)
Nostalgia crap rebottled
So boring things keep cropping on OTT space. Very slow and useless story about a Jobless Boy. Lol. No point watching this show. Avoid and switch to better genres. The writers have let down a promising story which could have been far more interesting.
Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story (2021)
Fantastic Performance and Direction
Some actors pick scripts which have lot of strength in terms of delivery and Kay Kay Menon somehow has the knack of doing that. Even though Special Ops 1.5 is a back story to Himmat Singh it does not lose once the spectacle which made the Season 1.0 a success. Congratulations to the team. Looking forward for the next season.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Could have been better
When we watch Leonardo Di Caprio on screen the expectations are really high. A global disaster being subject of Hollywood movies has been beaten to death. However, the humour angle is new but the script does not live up to it. It loses steam the moment the President comes into the picture. Rest is just a fill up.
Decoupled (2021)
Excellent Show
The humour in the show is very modern and many may find it offensive. However the effortless performance of R. Madhavan and Surveen Chawla adds extra value to the script. Recommended weekend watch for couples.
Paatal Lok (2020)
The performance of key actors
It is the performance of Jaideep Ahlawat that keeps this show worth watching. The story is gripping and interesting throughout. Enjoyable watch.
Aarya (2020)
Could have been better
After the first 3 episodes the story has lost grip and is seeming very uninteresting. The story gets weak after a point and all we see is a frustrated Sushmita Sen. Better shows streaming on other platforms.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Fantastic movie
I thought this kind of poverty existed only in India. But the way the movie depicts the needs of the common man in Korea and to the extent they go to secure a job is fantastic. The screenplay is very tight and the movie gives ample space to all actors to perform their role well. There is no unnecessary scenes or actors involved. The end is very tragic and touches your heart. How a small thing like securing a job could lead to so much bloodshed.
Queen (2019)
Good show
I am awe of all the three artists who have played Jaya Lalita in the show. The story is told very well and paced adequate. Only the political carrier of Jaya Lalitha is not shown in much detail. As a viewer we would want a few more episodes to cover that aspect too.
