Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
I've seen a lot of sci-fi movies. I'm 80. I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!
WHAT do you people want?? There were scenes and concepts in here, that I had never seen before! I saw fantastic effects, GREAT directing and acting, and PLOT, and EVERYTHING!
I gave it a nine, because of two things: The background planet is WAY too close, because the two would be tearing each other apart, ala "When Worlds Collide". Also, when Ray Fisher's "Bloodaxe" character is trying to get his troops to come with him, he should've been MUCH louder. How could they hear him? But those are ALL TWO of my problems with this movie.
And all of you who didn't like this one, I'm sure YOUR movie would've been so much better. HA!

Seven Days in May (1964)
I've seen this movie five or six times.
And I really like "Seven Days in May". But I have a question. The president's aide, "Paul Girard", folds up the admirals confession, and puts it in his cigarette case.
HOW did that cigarette case wind up in the wreckage of the vice-president's plane crash, over in Spain or wherever?
Otherwise, John Frankenheimer was a great director of TV and movies, and what a cast he had to work with here! Of course it was great to see Ava Gardner, and Edmund O'Brien was nominated for an Oscar. Having Kirk Douglas's character going against Burt Lancaster's character, well, it's a winning combination.
But I hope someone can answer my question.
From (2022)
It's kind of a limited premise
You've got a very small town, where once you drive in, you can't find your way out. And at night, the surrounding forest is full of creatures that look like normal humans, but they want to eat you.
In S1, they were trying to build a radio transmitter and receiver. I guess it doesn't work, because in S2 they're trying to do it again.
I'm looking at the show again, but the last episode I saw made me stop, because the main problem was one of the young ladies was found with a metal rod through her head that was also embedded in a tree. I think they're running out of ideas, and with this limited premise who could blame them?
The Peripheral (2022)
It's William Gibson, it's "cyberpunk", and I lLOVE IT!
Now I know what cyberpunk is, and it's new, and different, and quite well-produced here. I really like the actors chosen for the parts. Chloë Grace Moretz's "breakout' movies looked too violent for me to even check out. But oh, she's quite good in this, as "Flynn Fisher". And her brother, "Burton", played by Jack Reynor... I mean, I'm a straight 79-year-old, but he is so cool! I was happy just to "go with" this production. The wide shots of 2070s London with those giant statues, which I believe are supposed to hold air purification units, I kept taking screenshots, and putting them on Facebook.
Yes, it's magical science fiction, but with movie-quality production values. I don't know whether Gibson had enough for a second season in his book, but I'd love to see another eight episodes.
Occupation: Rainfall (2020)
I LOVED IT. 5.1 rating WAY TOO LOW
This Australian movie from 2020 has great production values. A lot of thought went into this, and a lot of money. The make up is Oscar-worthy. There's plenty of action, on land and in the air. There are several kinds of aliens. And the make up is excellent on each one. Do you have the plot point of some of the aliens being friendly. You have the problem of the Australians some of them being brutal, treating the friendly aliens badly. Temuera Morrison seems more at home in this than he does as Boba Fett. I would certainly give this movie a try. The action is seemingly unending, and the 79-year-old have to go to bed now, and see the rest of this excellent flick tomorrow.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
LOVED E7!
E7 of "The Book of Boba Fett" had enough action for a full movie. I thought it was great; I don't know how they do that stuff, and I had a great time watching it. Yes, I'm 78 years old, and I've seen a lot of action-filled sci-fi movies. Bringing Mando into this series was obviously a very good idea. My best wishes to all those who had a part in this creation.
Young Wallander: Episode 6 (2020)
The huge hole in episode 6
When the bomb went off camera Gustav clearly had the remote control in his left hand. No mention was made of that , and that was my huge disappointment with episode 6.
Trigger Point (2021)
Wasn't the old lady bookstore owner killed by Colm Feore's character?
And he came out of the bookstore after we hear the shot, tells partner "She's useless." Yet she shows up at the end of the movie? Am I correct on this?
Otherwise I thought the movie was pretty good.
Prospect (2018)
LOVED THIS ONE!
THIS MOVIE, on Hulu, is very good. It's about a father and daughter on an alien planet, prospecting for some kind of precious gems. Pedro Pascal, (Btw, he's ("The Mandalorian") is the "bad" guy, and the two Writer-Directors are BRILLIANT with his speeches. Reminds me of another character in another movie, and I will remember it, sometime.
Titans (2018)
Some of you have problems with S2...
I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing those problems. I'm not seeing any degradation from S1. OK, I'm a "young 78",
but it seems to me that Greg Berlanti and crew are still producing a top-notch series. Great writing, acting, production. The only person in the cast I've heard of is Iain (Ian) Glen, but I hope the other actors have successful careers in show business.
Lupin (2021)
I absolutely loved it; can't wait till season three
This French series with English subtitles is excellent. Great story, plot, acting, locales. Cinematography. I found it hugely entertaining. Omar Sy is a perfect "good thief", and the supporting cast is excellent. Yes, it could never really happen this way, but that's fiction. This is a great story, well told.
12 Strong (2018)
HOW did they make this movie?
I am totally blown away by the coordination of many talents need it to make a motion picture like this one. HOW do you direct a movie like this? How do you have all these explosions going off, without people being hurt or killed. Maybe it's all CG, but you had a lot of people and horses going "ass over teakettle". And to know it was all done in New Mexico??
I thought the acting was great, and I thought the action and the production was excellent.
To have this made in the US, I suppose there were a lot of permissions to be granted and papers to be signed; EPA regulations and such. I thought this movie was a huge success for all involved.
The Nevers (2021)
Joss Whedon has written, produced and directed yet another fantastic series
This is my kind of sci-fi fantasy; Sort of like James West and Artemis Gordon, except it's in 1899 London, and the heroes are women. Some reviewers don't like creativity, fantasy, and great production. This has all of those. I've always loved good science fiction, and at age 77, I still do. "The Nevers" has a mystery, and a couple of very smart, creative, "touched" women to solve it. I look forward to the next five episodes, and an S2.
Blades of Glory (2007)
LMAO at this; I found it VERY funny
I give Blades of Glory a 10. I got ALL the jokes; I think the writers are brilliant. They came up with a great story, and the actors, from the leads to Nick Swardson, are hilarious. Heder, Poehler, Ferrell and Arnett are simply great. Some reviewers seem to think that "gay" Is somehow a big deal in this movie. It isn't, and people who don't get a ton of laughs from this, have no sense of humor. I loved this film when it came out in 2002, and I love it now. The creativity in this film is amazing.
Bajo cero (2021)
Excellent, very tense, well-acted movie
"Below Zero" is one of those "How the hell did they do this?" movies. In Spain, two officers in a big van are taking individually-celled prisoners to another lock up, somewhere. A police car with two officers precedes them in the fog. But one older man has a grim plan for one of the prisoners. Things in this film quickly get tense, and the tension rises. If you like action, and do not mind some gore, you should see this.
The Phenomenon (2020)
GOOD JOB, JAMES FOX AND JACQUES VALLEE!!
First, I saw Joe Rogan experience #1574, free on Spotify where Joe interviews filmmaker James Fox and UFO expert Jacques Vallee. Fascinating, their telling of their EXTENSIVE research, going from the 1940s to 2020.
Then, for $4.99 on Prime, I saw their movie, "The Phenomenon". It is the most COMPLETE history of Unidentified Flying Objects, on and around our planet, that I've ever seen. The whole film is very interesting, but the 15 minutes at the end Where are you see and hear young school kids in Zimbabwe South Africa, who have seen, close up, a craft that landed and the beings on top of it... YOU WILL BELIEVE. Then, 19 1/2 years later, some of them are brought back together, and they still all agree as to what they saw. I hope that you will see this film. There are many films, photos and 4 stories of CONTACT between humans, and people from somewhere else.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
The enthusiastic and talented Dave Filoni has done better episodes than this
Episode 13, for me, compared to every other one, is disappointing.
It was quite slow. Plenty of long pauses where people just look at each other. Too much action-in-the-dark. Michael Biehn, older than I've seen him before. That's fine, but he was, well, it was all pretty dark, meaning no sunshine. Rosario Dawson was unrecognizable, and that's fine, but they had her as one of, what I think, is Star Wars' "most unappealing" aliens.
Dave Filoni wrote and directed this one.
Utopia (2020)
What "mynameritesh" said, except I gave it a nine instead of eight:
Before I started watching this, I think it had a lower rating, and people were criticizing it for not being as good as the 2013 British series. Well, maybe it isn't as good, but the British series is a not readily available now, and I enjoyed the hell out of this one. Great writing, production, acting and cast. I've never seen a story like this, and it looks like they've got an S2 planned...
Devs (2020)
Giving it at 10 after one episode.
This is the most intriguing, mysterious thing I've ever seen. This writer director has one hell of an imagination. I think Nick Offerman is great in this, and it's surprising to see him in this. I have no problem with the editing, the audio, nor the music, Or whatever that is that "The Insects" are doing. It isn't as pretty as "Altered Carbon", but it's definitely got my attention. Btw, "AC2" Is as good as the first one I think, though I kind of miss Joel Kinnaman.
I See You (2019)
MUCH better than a 6.7! My usual 10 stars for works I don't see how to improve.
This engrossing film begins like a "Supernatural", with thoroughly creepy things happening to a family that's having quite enough problems already. A couple of young boys have been killed, reminding me of HBO's Steven King story, "The Outsider". This is a brilliant story and screenplay, with great acting and direction. Helen Hunt ("Mad About You") and John Tenney play the parents, and they and the 4 young actors are great. Highly recommended.
Spenser Confidential (2020)
Giving it a "how did they do that" 9
Yes, it's a good movie. Except that too many cops nailed Spencer in the men's room, And Driscoll kicked him about six times too much at the race track. And someone please tell me how these fights look so realistic? And btw, (I'm 76) those fights break noses and jaws and ribs.
The most amazing thing to me was, when that vicious dog attacked Spencer twice, and I suppose it was CG, but it looked like Mark Wahlberg and it look like the dog was chewing him up. I don't think you can train a dog to just go after the clothes. Anyway, good movie, and seeing Mark Maron in it was fun.
And with this movie and "The Town", Boston seems like a pretty bad place.

October Faction (2020)
76 year-old single straight male, I just love the hell out of this series
I think the creator and the writers are geniuses. I love JC McKenzie and Tamara Taylor as a couple. This production has this family going, and having its own personal dramas. The well-cast teenage Twins like each other, and have their own challenges going on, and they don't know what mom and dad do.Thing is, they work for the Presidio, and are charged with finding and killing what are called "Vamps", who live among us, hidden. The problems of being gay are explored, and the whole series is very well written. The Vamps are great, and so are the weapons used against them. Try this one out.
Midway (2019)
Holy... Whatever, Subcmdr! I have the movie from Redbox here, love your review!
Subcmdr, I'm 76, not nearly as sharp as you, though you are probably older. I was in the army for three years, was lucky to go to Korea and have fun rather than Vietnam. I want to wait until the neighbor lady is available to see this with me, because it sounds really great. Your review is "something else", sir.
So this is a 10 star review of your review, where you've gone above and beyond!
The Japanese should've gotten a clue six months after Pearl Harbor, and I think I'm right that the Nazis should have gotten a clue after the battle of Britain.
Guys like you and my Dad won the war. BEST WISHES to you, sir!
