Gods and Generals (2003)
Very good
I appreciated the characters either quoting or reading from the Bible. I believe many of those involved in the War were deeply religious persons. It wasn't as intense as "Gettysburg" and that made it easier for me to watch. Truth be told, there were some parts I didn't quite understand, but it didn't detract from my over all enjoyment of the movie. As far as editing goes, if it were up to me, I would edit out all the sequences where they showed the sky. They showed it three times. The only difference was once there was something like Northern Lights or some cloud anomaly happening. Was it symbolism? I think a good story line is more important and this movie has that.
Best Man in Grass Creek (1999)
Best movie I've seen in a long time!
Of course, I'm extremely biased due to the fact that my dh's cousins appear in the film. Too bad their names aren't listed on IMDb. They deserve a little credit. Beyond that the movie is worth seeing just because it is a refreshing change from all the gory action films that seem to catch everyone's attention. It is simple, clean and good. Need a laugh? There are many in this film about a man's reluctance to commit after being jilted at the altar. Some of the events in the film are based on true wedding stories - "the crying preacher" and the "reluctant groom." The final wedding takes place in an actual church located in Northern Indiana where one of the "cousins" is the official preacher. In the movie, however, he plays the part of a salesman. Most impressive to me, was the fact that his son trained the cows. Don't miss this one! It's amazingly funny.
