The Dinner (2017)
Remake
I think it strange that neither IMDb nor all the reviewers I have read do not mention that this movie is a remake almost scene for scene of an Italian movie of 2014 directed by Ivano Di Matteo, called in English "The Dinner" just like this one. For a movie whose subject is truth and honesty, I think the least everybody involved could be expected to do is acknowledge this. This being said is that this is a good movie just like the original one.
Kim Bok-nam salinsageonui jeonmal (2010)
How do you say subtle in Korean?
This is total trash. And this won quite a few kudos from the intellectuals of some film festivals. How do you say stupid in Korean? And how do you say sadistic exploitation movie disguised as "art"? Some people, I guess, get their kicks out of watching this kind of crap. Note that I gave it a 3, all the same because of the few laughs (unintended) I got along the way.
Storm (2009)
incomprehensible
The first thing we have the right to expect from actors is that they can speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood by everybody in the audience. I am sorry but mumbling is not good enough for a professional who makes his/her living by speaking. The subject of the movie seemed attractive enough but after half an hour of straining our ears to understand what was going on, my wife and I decided that no matter how bad we'd love to see the bad guy brought down, enough bad acting was enough. It was made worse because the movie was supposed to be subtitled and it was not. Please, miss Fox and company, call me back when you have passed your exam in elocution.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
black and bloody comedy
Am I the only one to think this movie is a comedy and a good one at that. Nothing in this movie is serious in plot, action, dialogs, acting (way over the top with everybody)or anything else. Please forget about the messages, the hidden meanings... Tarantino had fun and made it fun for us to watch. I wish one day he matures and gives us a good profound movie. Tarantino is a good director, no doubt he is very talented. But to be a great director, you need to be able to do it all: comedy, drama, Sci-Fi, ... (refer to Stanley Kubrick, Spielberg, Kurosawa, Wilder, Wyler, John Houston...) There are some exception to this if your are Bergman or Fellini, but these are authors not film makers.
