great first season and second season disappoints

I really enjoyed the first season. Second season was a big time let down.

Could not make out what was happening. And a very lame ending.

Cold War (2018)

flawed masterpiece
26 December 2018
Had assumed this one to be a political thriller during the cold war. so it was a total surprise viewing. i was attracted to this because of the black and white cinematography and exceptionally beautiful shot compositions.impressive musical numbers. the movie is about the love between the two main characters. it is not clear why they were in love, the off and on relationships during the course of several years was not effectively scripted. to me it was hard to follow. but overall it was a satisfying cinema experience. loved the ending.

reminded me of the film "The return from the ashes"
6 September 2017
I may be wrong, as i am watching this, this is very much like The return from the ashes, where liv Ulman returns from the camp and meets with old lover played my maxmilian schell. who marries her for her money and tries to kill her. i really enjoyed the return from the ashes, and i am equally relishing this film.

very much enjoyed this brilliant film
10 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
as i watched this film i also remembered the film "Is Paris Burning". Brilliant acting by two of the main actors. excellent cinematography and background score. Paris looks devastatingly beautiful from the balcony of the hotel they were staying. i very much would like to know the name of the singer and the name of the song as the credits roll at the end of the movie. this movie is not for everyone unfortunately. people who like the current crop of American films will definitely find this slow and boring. i have always enjoyed french and German films. it is great that Volker Schlöndorff is still making meaningful cinema, and we are so lucky. This must have been a very successful play and clever adaptation of the play is well appreciated. i simply wonder if the Swedish governor kept his word and helped the general's wife and children escape to Switzerland. at the end when he looks at the ring i wondered what he was thinking. hard to say. i really wish he kept his word.

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Bimal Roy's Devdas
29 June 2008
when asked i always reply "there are only two Indian films that i adore and first one is Bimal Roy's Devdas and second guru Dutt's sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. generally speaking Indian films are pretty bad. but these two gems are absolute beauties. but that was the golden age of Hindi films. films of that era really had some class. current Indian films are absolutely pathetic at best. Devdas: why was it great - brilliant direction of Bimal Roy. he actually was the cinematographer for the earlier version by Pc Barua. and second Dilip Kumar's portrayal of devdas. i believe it is mainly due to Bimal Roy's direction, he knew how to utilize dilip kumar's talents. secondly it ms. Suchitra Sen's portrayal of Parvati. sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam: guru Dutt's direction, brilliant performances by Meena Kumari, Rehman and guru Dutt.

Best of Bengal

Saratchandra Chatterji's novel under the brilliant direction of Bimal Roy becomes india's finest cinema of all times.Equally brilliant is Hrishikesh Mukherji's editing. Dilip Kumar and Suchitra Sen take film acting to new heights in their portrayal of Devdas and Paro.
