A huge loophole in the plot
3 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is fun, well directed and acting is great.

To me though there is a giant loophole in the plot: Miles killed the real Andi and knows who ended up on his island is her twin.

Why being so reckless to do two more murders he won't have any chance to pin on anyone else!? With the detective right there too?! Who has already proven to him that he's very good?

Moreover Miles already bought his gang to cover him up in the past, there is no proof Andi was killed, but rather is still treated by the news and the police as a suicide. It wouldn't be really hard for him to keep it that way.

He could have just fall initially for Duke's blackmailing and then deal with him at a later time; maybe handing the job to a professional killer making it look like an accident.

To me this was a bit of a deal breaker.

As many other reviewers I didn't like the ending too: the Mona Lisa burning to ruin Mile's life and make his dumb quote go against himself? Come on, that's a little too silly. Moreover the carried message is what? Do not go through the rule of the law, but rather burn everything to get some justice?

Anyway I gave it a solid 6 cause it's worth the watch and entertaining. I hope if they make a third movie this time they'll make a better script than this one.

From running to fighting
11 December 2022
I like the concept: the main character runs away from slavery and then joins the ranks to fight against it.

I am still not so sure about the choice of a washed out look for the filmography, even though I get the idea of trying to replicate the same look from the photography of "Whipped Peter" which the story is inspired to.

Acting is very good: Will Smith does a great performance, as well as Ben Foster too (who plays a real difficult role btw).

The pace is good, especially during the runaway phase in the swamp: it conveys very well the emotional state of a person being hunted in such dangerous environment.

Antoine Fuqua made maybe one his most valuable movies with this one, and I won't be surprised if he gets nominated for an Academy Award as best director.

The funniest spy tv series ever made
29 April 2022
Grotesque and full of dark humor, with an incredible Gary Oldman, this tv series was a surprise.

I gave it a solid 9 because of its original storyline and the entertainment. In my opinion it almost matches "The Boys" from Amazon Prine Video catalogue.

One of the best tv series in Apple TV catalogue so far.

I'm looking forward for the release of the second season.

Ruined
19 March 2022
The way the first season ended has ruined it, moreover the storyline could have been better developed to lead to such finale by making the audience wonder more about the suspects involvement in the kidnapping.

Feels like a missed opportunity to do something great since the cast is very good, as well as the filmography.

Beautifully developed
19 March 2022
The topics this tv series covers are difficult and sad, they did a great job at developing this story.

Samuel L. Jackson might be doing with this his best work in his career so far: if this was a motion picture he'd deserved an Oscar.

All other actors are also doing a great job.

So far a must see
19 March 2022
I've watched the first three episodes: great acting, impressive filmography, very interesting plot, all well directed.

The narravate flows beautifully despite the flashbacks, moreover it's firmly focused on the two main characters without adding too much noise form side characters around them.

I'd say this is one of the best tv series on Apple TV+ catalogue.

Jared Leto is the perfect fit for this role, as well as Anne Hathaway is great too.

Too slow
20 February 2022
The concept is promising but the developing is too slow and too focused on exaggerating the weirdness in corporate lifestyle. I think Ben Stiller had already exploited this theme in "The secret life of Walter Mitty", and it feels as if he's trying to recycle that concept adopting a different genre.

Acting is ok, filmography is a bit overdue and narcissistic: for example the main character walking in the corridor inside the company facility on episode one, was too long and didn't really convey any concept. On the other end the passage between the company life conscience and the external life conscience is not really portrayed in any way -yet- and I think a more seasoned director -as David Fincher for example- would have come out with a very creative way to do that.

Ranting as the old Merovingian
1 January 2022
That could be me with this review, or the wobbly storyline of this Resurrections episode.

I could have seen at least one better way to get this written differently, as in relying on human cloning and having once again a real Matrix scenario ready.

No way. The writer had chosen the path of transforming the whole story into a circus of irony, which honestly doesn't work at all.

Too bad, and it's not just a matter of expectations a fan of that s franchise might see not being met.

It's just that a personal manifesto from a director/writer never works for movies. Ever.

Wajo, Wajo, Wajo
26 November 2021
Yet another episode not making sense and keeping the storyline stale. Enough. This is the third one basically ending with the "Wajo, Wajo, Wajo" crap. Redundant and boring, I'm done with it. It's a shame cause it could have been a good show if it was edited and developed in a radical different way.

Boring, boring, boring
26 November 2021
Did I say it is boring, already? Well it is. In this episode there are at least 30 minutes of redundant talks and senseless scenes. Bad acting, poorly directed and edited. I am gonna stop watching this nonsense show, it is so boring that I cannot even watch it for making fun of it as I would for a series featuring Chuck Norris.

Very nice

I liked this episode a lot. The storyline about Don Pedro is interesting.

"The woman with shoulder's pads" line was really hilarious.

As I thought at first this series is an underdog Ted Lasso.

Excellent season finale
20 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode marks the end of Season 1, and it has been done excellently.

I was left with the crave for next season.

Perhaps there are just a couple of redundant scenes which could have been left out in the episode's section of Salvor's depart from Terminus, which could have left more space to the brother Day struggle section.

Anyway... I am looking forward to next season.

Second season seems better
20 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've originally rated this 4/10 after having watched first season.

I've also watched second season, and this one seems better. Although I think the storyline could have adhered a bit more to reality: Mitch in Italy while the first western country gets to deal with COVID19 large outbreaks, in reality he'd took the advantage of that situation for a come back in the news industry (perhaps by not being an anchor but an executive). Same goes for Alex when she gets there.

But I also get the idea of depicting all these people as self centered and narcissists not able to see what is in front of them, except in reality they'll lose opportunities to do their job which will be taken by others.

Loved Valeria Golino's performance, I couldn't think of a better Italian actress nowadays to play that character.

Still too many cliches when it comes to Italy: eating ice cream on Como's lake sidewalk during February? Too cold to do that (it's not Minnesota, but also nor Casablanca!).

Paola driving a FIAT 128 from the '70s?!? You won't see that car on the streets aside for in a parade of historical cars: better if she drove a FIAT Panda model from the late '90s if the intention was to portray her character as a poor documentarist.

Anyway there are plenty of hilarious scenes worth watching in this second season, thus I give it a solid 7... averaging with a 4 I gave to first season, the overall vote so far is a 5.

Falling back
20 November 2021
Damn this episode falls back into what I thought the show was suffering of in episodes 4 & 5: staleness.

Episode 6 gave us a glimpse of what this series can be if it takes a sharp turn from jumping too often between the different characters stories, adding a little more action and suspense, and unraveling a bit more the events.

For example this episode could have developed more the chapter in Japan and saving us from some repetitive narrative in the USA, UK and Afghanistan chapters.

I've not read the books
20 November 2021
I am not on the "I've read the books" wagon, thus I am gonna simply review it without any expectations coming from my own imagination.

I've been able to watch first episode and part of the second one.

The story doesn't develop smoothly, it seems clumsy and I have yet to understand where the problem lies between script, acting, directing or editing. Perhaps it's a mix. I usually like Rosamund Pike's acting, in this thing she's not making any difference, maybe this not even a genre she's able to perform in.

It starts kind of as "The company of the ring" from LOTR, except this is too messy and forse leave you with craving for the next episode or scene: you just feel as if you wanted to end soon, so you can get to watch or do something else.

It's finally taking off!
14 November 2021
Wow!

This episode was thrilling and engaging.

The show is finally taking off!

No jumps between characters and only focused on one of them. The story is finally unfolding and getting out of staleness it was suffering from in the last 2 episodes.

I knew this series had potential, and it's now meeting my expectations.

Too simplified and biased
9 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show is not bad, and shot beautifully.

Anyway there are many oversimplifications for a very broad topic as addiction is.

For example the character played by Rosario Dawson: I can't see an high ranked DEA officine on the field let go a kid who assault a woman for her medical prescription, and then even mourn about that kid when she learns from the newspaper he's dead by overdosing in a parking lot.

Especially in that epoch the show is based on: at that time another "pandemic" was going on in rural America, that'll be incarceration of teens even when found with a single joint. At that time private sector in the teen penitentiary and re-education sector was making money in the very same shady way the evil big pharma depicted in the show was.

Moreover many underlaying reasons behind addiction and self destructive behaviors are not taken into consideration at all: plenty of people have a family abusing story, and here instead it looks like the only way out from that path is religion (another addiction...) and falling back in the abusive environment which had in first place caused that negative path to be taken.

Worst, rehab programs and associations are even depicted as yet another way to not solve the addiction problem when not even a place where someone keeps exploiting the patients by selling them drugs covertly.

What I've found sort of realistic is the way sales force environment is depicted in the late 90s early 2000s.

Despite the above I'll stick to watching the cause it can be entertaining and it hooked me... which is ironic having given fact this whole is adopting exactly the same addictive brain chemistry any addictive substance will deploy.

Waiting for...
6 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...the story to unfold a little more.

So far it has developed too slowly: some episodes could have been condensed into 1 from 3 of them.

I do agree with some other reviewers here about its staleness, but I also still see potential in this series though I'm sticking to watch it some more.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Certainly I'll stop watching it if some more redundant scenes are in store, as it was for episode 5: the whole sequence of Aneesha getting prepared to do some surgery was repetitive and too long. It was already clear the emotional turmoil her character was going through, no need to add more drama to it with such a long sequence, it felt as overfilling the same cup of tea way after it had already overflowed 5 minutes earlier. Especially since I'd given more emphasis instead to the reaction hence transformation she goes through in scene right after that, when she successfully perform such surgery, therefore gaining again some power over her personal life too.

The little fellas storyline too is stale since 2-3 episodes at this point, as well as the other sides (Japanese space agency and soldier in Afghanistan).

This made me wonder if it wouldn't be better to have episodes strictly bonded and dedicated to every side of the story, rather than this extremely slow paced mix.

It's back! :O
1 November 2021
The Purge is back... and it looks like it'll stay around here ever after!

They've found a way to revive this franchise, and after all it was a creative one.

This new episode is based in Texas on the Mexico border, and follows a group of Mexican and US citizens trying to escape the forever purge by crossing the border to Mexico.

Having given the developments in this flick I can see at least two more episodes coming: one based on the Canadian border and one in New York.

Needless to say if you like as I do this franchise you'll won't miss them as well as this one.

I hope though they'll get back to a storyline also developing around a personal vendetta someone tries to achieve through the purge, or why not even two guys who had plot the very same thing against each other.

Too redundant on part of the plot already shown in previous episodes.

I gave it 6 only because it also has a couple of very nice scenes.

Thrilling and fun
3 October 2021
This movie sets almost a new genre.

It's thrilling and with an irresistible dark irony: sometimes it sits voluntarily on the edge of a b-movie, and then bounces back from becoming one with either a good action shot or an ironic turn in the plot.

Christopher Waltz is also at its best performance level interpreting a sociopath/psychopath.

I gave it a solid 8 for the good action, the originality of this script and the very good interpretation by the actors.

To me this is a must see.

Could have been better... or worse!
30 September 2021
The idea is cool, as well as how the plot develops in regards of the reason behind the events and why this particulate set of people get through them.

The biggest problem is trying to convey the anxiety and weirdness of becoming old by 50 yrs in one day that the characters should feel: it's just poorly done by the actors and by the director and writer choices.

Too bad, because it could have been an 8, instead it's a 6 and only because of the original idea and the nice photography.

9 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The whole story finally boils down to the inevitable -mediocre- truth: the unfaithful husband is also a sociopath (and a narcissist... not really two interchangeable traits in reality).

Finally he snaps, but Hugh Grant is not Jack Nicholson and he really fails on conveying the change in his performance.
