The Father (I) (2020)
10/10
A Confusing and Somber Masterpiece
8 November 2023
This can not be viewed casually or with your attention divided. 'The Father' should only be watched during a time when you can fix your eyes wholly on Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colemans devoted performances, and I would recommend carving out sometime afterward to really sit with the thoughts and emotions that will undoubtedly be stirred within you. The movie leaves you sympathetic of the confusion that Alzheimer's and dementia patients go through, and you will be in complete awe of the patience and resilience of their family and caretakers. Would recommend this film to anyone and everyone, especially those who can appreciate that a good film doesn't have to be flashy or happy.

Just Enjoy It For What It Is
26 May 2023
I LOVED the disney animated classic. It was a staple pf my childhood. And it makes me very happy to know that today's generation will have their own version, and get to create their own memories of seeing it in a theater, having the Ariel dolls, and everything else that comes from having a monumental childhood classic. I thought this movie was very well done, because I wasn't expecting Avatar level CGI. The scenes were visually pleasing, but still whimsical and childlike. I can honestly say that I would not of done the casting any differently. Halle was fantastic, and the vocals give you chills. But same for Sebastian and Ursula, who provided comic relief and witty one liners. No it's not exactly the same as the original, but that's because its a different movie. If you are somebody that is going to be snobby and elitist over a movie meant to entertain children and adults alike, then you won't like this movie. However, if you're like me and you are easily entertained and just happy to be sitting in a movie theater, then I highly recommend using your movie theater time on this movie.

A Honest Movie with Flaws
3 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start off by saying this is NOT a bad movie, in fact I really enjoyed it. It's really realistic of any high school you go to, and the harassment and double standards girls face. I thought that part was really well done, and the entire movie has great inclusitivity. There are just a few parts I don't understand why they were included. Two of the girls kiss once and its never addressed or developed. I understand that they don't want to take away from the overall theme, but to me it just felt like a token scene, like they threw it in to seem "woke". It would if been really satisfying to see the antagonist arrested at the end of the movie, but I am glad that they included that storyline. Overall this is something I recommend for any teen girl to watch.

Emma. (2020)

Confused by the bad reviews...
28 May 2020
Recently got a chance to watch this. I like the film with Gwyneth Paltrow, and absolutely love the BBC miniseries, so I was cautious watching this, especially with the several bad reviews. I don't know if it was because I went in with low expectations, but I was delighted by this movie! Admittedly if you don't know the story, it can move fast, but to be fair, the book is long and tedious, with a lot to fit in two hours, which is one of my problems with the 2008 movie. The visuals and fashions of this movie are beautiful, and Emma's character did show improvement unlike some of the comments I saw. This one definitely captured Jane Austen's humor, and you can be guaranteed to laugh a few times. The BBC mini-series is still my top rated, but the 2020 "Emma." is, in my opinion, a notch above the 2008 "Emma", but would definitely recommend all adaptations, especially the book.
