Freeheld (2015)
Terrible casting
Nice plot, based on a true story and has a very important message, one that presents the struggle for gays before gays were allowed to marry and how mostly white men oppressed them simply because they could and because they hated gays. However, the casting is JUST AWFUL. The energy between Laurel and Stacie is painfully awkward. It's not believable at all. Just super cringe and awkward. Then on top of that the gay activist that comes in to help is Steve Carell, like really?? It's almost as if this whole thing was like an inside joke to the film makers. I really don't get how they could botch this movie so painfully bad.
Paganini (1989)
Literally the worst move I have ever seen and will ever see
This movie is so incredibly awful, I don't recommend anyone to watch it ever. It's like a old school pornography film where a man creates his fantasy of banging under age girls while they beg for him to have more sex, things that don't happen. This goes on for most of the film at random times and his wife also begs to go with him as if she's not mad he's cheating on her. Then just a mess of bad violin music and the son making a few appearances and just complete jumbled editing and sounds. Really painful to watch and very boring. A massive waste of time. Literally watch anything other than this.
Terror Train (2022)
Good cinematography, that's about it
Really generic horror film, pretty predictable. They spend a lot of time showing frat life and partying so overall it's very boring. If you cut all that out and just did the kills you'd probably have like a 30 minute movie. I just couldn't wait for it to end. The casting of the magician was odd too, it didn't seem like someone cool that frat girls would be into, seemed too old and weird. I would say it's not worth watching at all, just fast-forward to the end so you can see who is involved and then move on. They tried to put a little twist at the end but that was not believable either. Honestly you just hope to see everyone die in the movie.
Mosley (2019)
Absolutely beautiful movie
The trailers did not do this one justice, I would have not watched based on those alone as it just seemed like a kids flick and nothing special, but wow, this is a simply a beautiful movie worth the watch. Just absolutely heart wrenching at many points and really a reflection of how humans treat animals in our society today. Humans are so cruel and awful it's unbelievable but this movie explores if what would happen if the tables were to turn. Really great voice acting and animations as well and great cuts that keep it interesting. If you watch this film and you're still exploiting animals after it, you truly have NO soul. Go vegan!
Mister Jerico (1970)
Super fun film
Super fun film, though on paper the plot can seem a bit redundant, watching it was actually really entertaining and I didn't get the twists till the end. It was really cool to see all the vintage styling and furniture etc too. Good acting and music. I enjoyed the whole film. Some parts are a bit unrealistic like the gun fire and why Russo would even work with a well known con man to begin with or tell him all his secrets but hey, that's Hollywood for you!!! Haha!
A little bit won't satisfy him
That's why he takes from everyone
As they pass by him
Yes, they're pleased they know
Mr. Jericho
Beware my friend
I'm warning you
Behind that smile lives a devil
You can't tell
He hides it well
But deep inside him, he revels in the game he plays
The lion's share is what he's after
But you forget before the wine
And midnight laughter
Soon as he says, "Hello
"My name's Mr. Jericho"
Gun Shy (2017)
Funny and entertaining flick
This movie is an action film not meant to be taken seriously. It's got simple humor and plot which is very entertaining throughout the whole thing. It's just a fun little ride and meant for a good time. If a movie can hold my interest and entertain me the whole way through then it's successfully done it's job. It's silly, of course, but that's all part of the fun.
And of course if you're looking for something very serious and very deep then just skip this one, no need for the salty reviews. Haha! I've seen some poor movies not worthy of the time but this one is certainly not that kind of movie. It's very well shot and edited.
Green Wing (2004)
If you ever wondered what your workplace would be like without HR
This show is like the Walmart version of the "ER" TV series with less intriguing plots and poor attempts at humor AKA lots of sexual harassment in the workplace. Watch as coworkers make each other incredibly uncomfortable with unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate jokes in the workplace, homophobic jokes, and more! It's really cringe to watch and not entertaining at all. I don't know how this ever lasted as long as it did. I know it was 2004 and poor taste was more popular back then but my god, it's not funny at all. I sat through an unbearable hour and never laughed once. It's just so bad, I wouldn't bother with it.
Needle (2010)
Terrible!! All around terrible.
It's rare that I say a movie is completely not worth watching but this one was just awful. The storyline is so backwards in that they tell you everything they happens but then show the characters figuring it out when you already know what happens so there's no surprise or suspense at all. Some scenes are just all over the place or completely useless to the storyline. Like why is Marcus on a boat, why is Mary try to R word Ben right away when he's wasted af, why are we wandering around looking for the box and the killer happens to be at the history of house of the location as if they cared about the origins. Overall was very boring and they could have cut it down to like 25 minutes honestly. Also the awkward parts where they try to turn it into a love story and it's just not working. And the having a hot lesbian couple just for eye candy and fulfilling males fantasies. Lol hard pass on this one.
Murmur (2022)
Fun flick but don't expect anything deeper than that
This movie is like a mix of The Office with Blair Witch Project with a video game. It's more of a comedy than a horror flick, with Angel being the funniest and really helping this movie a lot. The plot is not very complex at all, it starts out with potential but doesn't go any further or deeper than the surface. The editing and acting is excellent. Some areas of the movie drag on for quite a bit, they could have easily cut this down to an hour. They don't bother to explain anything like why not being in the app doesn't seem to matter. I'd say if you're looking for something light and fun to give it a watch.
Back in the U.S.S.R. (1992)
Surprisingly entertaining film for 1992!
I thought with this film made in 1992 and the name of "Back in the USSR" that it would not be very good but I was pleasantly surprised! Lots of humor and lots of twists. It stays interesting the entire time especially the way they tie things at the end back to the beginning so it all comes together. If you're looking for extreme accuracy and details then this film isn't for you but if you're looking for a good story and to be entertained then give it a watch! The way it flows and the acting are great. My only complain was the love story part of it and sex scene seemed a little out there but again, it's a movie, made to entertain, not to be realistic!
Le Cineaste - A Director's Journey (2020)
Painfully boring
So the good, good actors, nice city scenes, well edited. The bad is just the story is so drawn out and predictable. Honestly could have cut it into like a 20 minute short film or something. I really dislike the way it's shot where it focuses on the others faces when someone is talking and also the long drawn out music scenes like just really basking in this frustration of not being able to make his film. It's like okay, we get it. Had the story been more original and interesting then I think it could have been fun but this, no. I really hope it's not based on a true story because if so then I completely see why they were not able to get funding.
Afterwards (2008)
Beautiful film
Afterwards is such a beautiful and haunting film. Very sad. It's often very vague and that is fine because you don't need the details to get the point. Gives a wonderful lesson about life and how fleeting it really is. The overall mood and music is wonderful. There is lots of little twist and turn that keep it interesting where you kind of see where the road is going next but you really are not sure until you arrive. Make sure you live how you truly want to, to put y our true values first, to best serve and be with the the ones you love while you have them. Definitely worth the watch for sure.
Black Ice (2020)
On the surface it seems just like a rock climbing movie but it's so much more
This is truly a great film. It makes you feel all kind of ways, from inspired, to sad, to happy. It really gives you a glimpse into the hood life and how simple positive things like a rock climbing gym can really change entire people's lives for the better and eventually maybe even their entire communities. Put good things into the world, and you'll produce good things. Simple concept that is so often overlooked or ignored. Anyways this movie needs to be more accessible and maybe on Amazon prime video or something so people can buy/watch!
Unknown Distance (2018)
Really powerful
A really powerful film about what Marines go through in battle and after and how America basically abandons them.
Hint of Love (2020)
Classic RomCom
Classic RomCom with some cheese and dad jokes thrown in. It's cute though and the cinematography and acting is good. I feel like women into this type of thing will enjoy it.
Lost Generation (2017)
It's awful
I's on Amazon Prime Video and it's terrible. Don't waste your time.
Bruiser (2021)
Great Movie
At first glance I didn't think I would really care for this movie, it's not a big Hollywood budget (it got funded publicly online), It starts off very raunchy and in your face, but man, the storyline is good. It really makes you think about things in America in a different way and flips the script on a lot of common stereotypes so what you think is happening isn't at all. And it also makes you realize how some criminals are trying to survive etc, and end up getting caught in huge complex crimes that they never intended to be involved with and cannot escape once they're in. The main character Jack is unlikeable at first but by the end you feel bad for the dude. Many times along the way he finds himself questioning his ethics and recognizing his own cognitive dissonance. The film definitely keeps you on edge throughout, loved it. Not every day you get a plot with some real substance and the acting is amazing too. If you look up some of the actor profiles after watching, you would never guess they would play these characters so well and that's truly the definition of a great actor. Also the cinematography is A+.
Locomotive (2013)
Weird
I'll start by stating that I don't watch a ton of indie flicks. Okay? But I think this is likely what indie films are like. It was definitely interesting. But also like watching someone's day to day life and never getting any answers because you only see a small portion of time. It's basically all the little awkward moments in real life put on screen. Something about that is kind of refreshing. But maybe a little boring too. But also you kind of go through the ups and downs that the main character is feeling, but also some wtfs.
River's End: California's Latest Water War (2021)
Misses a major point
Interesting doc but in the end felt more like an attack on Westlands rather than fully address ALL of the issues with water in California. Was great to see this topic discussed but they completely overlooked how livestock uses far more water than almonds. If we all went plant based then even almonds would not be a problem. They showed a few glimpses here and there of livestock, even some of the Westland livestock farms but completely ignored that livestock wastes the most water and is something we do not need to survive. We cut out the beef and we've basically solved many of the water problems. Not sure why this topic is so often ignored other than the fact that the people making docs such as this would have to admit they are part of the problem and thus change their own habits and even advocate plant based life styles which they don't seem keen on doing so do they really care?
A Demon's Destiny: The Lone Warrior (2009)
Pretty boring
Lot's of long fight scenes and drawn out scenes, mediocre acting. Very much Dragon Ball Z like so if that's your thing then you'll probably enjoy this.
Chasing Comets (2018)
Cute and funny!
This flick was really well filmed, the cinematography is great as well as the acting, it kept my attention and had some heart felt moments plus some eye candy and a few laughs. Worth a look!
