Finally, a funny, immersive film.
26 January 2022
One of Adam Sandler's funniest films - not for him though. Sandler instead takes on the rare grounded and mature character. The humor comes from the side cast - 'Cheeseburger Eddy', 'Caretaker'. Like "Shawshank Redemption", there is a fairly idealistic and naive prison setting - which is fitting for a comedy. Other than that, this movie suceeds in creating a short, fun experience.

Simply, a nice, thoughtful film
26 January 2022
"The Shawshank Redemption" is interesting. I found myself more interested in the personalities of Red and Andy more than the actual plot. The characters are the movie - they make up the plot. This movie creates an immersive setting or its audiences to brought in with its characters to the walls of Shawshank. In its genuine event simplicity, Shawshank instead focused the complexities of humans. My favorite character is Red, a man who seems to be fine viewing the world through an institutionalized lens. But that himself, makes him non-institutionalized - he has created his own identity within Shawshank which is nevertheless hard not to remember. Lastly my only critique is while Shawshank connects with reality by illustrating further upon the existential crisis facing many people within social institutions, Shawshank creates an overly fictional, less violent, more ideal prison that is not in touch with the current extremeties apparent in modern day prison systems.

Warning: Spoilers
"King Richard" is a simple film. Its a family film. And it delivers in every aspect that it can. The acting is incredible. The plot is engaging. And the lessons that it provides are useful for connecting with ones own reality.

A movie for cinematography
18 January 2022
"The Power of the Dog" in itself is simply a character piece. It provides a pungent setting, where audiences can truly feel themselves in within the first 30 minutes. After that, it is journey taken with Phil and the rest of the characters. It is slow, but well paced. Each scene is crafted so that something new is shown about the characters and their relationship with each other. Albeit, as the film progresses, there is a slight uncomfortableness that crawls through the scenes. For this reason, although "The Power of the Dog" delivers a great character story, it at sometimes turns its audiences off from more deeply engaging with its plot.

A change of expectation
18 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Don't Look Up" is successful in its mission. To create an expectation for viewers of a light, comedic piece - that is does start with. But as the movie continues, the audience is plunged deeper into this world with a looming existential threat - a planet killer comet. Through its symbolism of current shortcomings in human society - such as the lack of urgency on science supported issues like climate change. Additionally, "Dont Look Up" provides it audience with a suprising and heartfelt ending inhabiting a stark warning for the future of our mankind. It ends with a message that we should all think twice about - how these earthly issues will result depend on how quickly and cohesively we act.

Better than expected.
23 October 2021
Despite the popular resentment towards this film, I actually think that it was quite good. That being said, I'm not a huge Halloween fan, and didn't come in with high expectations. But this movie, delivered as a pretty good horror-action movie. It put aside plot and embraced tension and action. Because of that, any heartfelt and emotional scenes felt pointless and void of meaning. Simple put, this movie is 2 hours of Michael Myers killing people.

Is Dune great? It depends....
23 October 2021
"Dune Part 1", is an incredible showing. The first half of the movie is better than any sci fi film I have ever watched. But while, "Dune Part 1" lives up the hype, there is still a question left to be answered. Can it stand on its own? The answer is No. While this movie is brilliant, it cannot stand on its own because it is an expository tale. It is meant to set up the Dune universe. It's effectiveness depends on the future of the franchise. That being said, if there is a "Dune Part 2", this is an excellent film to start the story. If there happens to be no sequel, all of the cinematic details and pain staking choreography would have been for no point, as this film ends open. And without no takeaway or end product, it simple cannot deliver by itself. In summary, this movie is both great and mediocre. It all depends on what comes next.

Falling down a ramp

This movie is very ambitious. But like most ambitious ventures, it fails to go the full distance. Through its messy and rather convoluted plot, it makes its audience spend two hours understading the protagonist, just to be met with a half-hazard conclusion. It is rather dissapointing due the build up of its characters and plot in the first half of the movie. But as I state again, the conclusion reverts all the efforts put in during the first 1 and a half hours , and is truly what makes this a 4/10.
