The Usual Suspects (1995)
And like that.....hes gone!
This is to all those people that rubbished this film. You wouldn't know a good film if it jumped up and hit you with a left hook Dela Hoya would be proud of.
This film is in my top five, and if you put titanic or any of those teen slashers in front of this, then damit this film wasn't made for you. Get on with your life.
In my opinion most films lick balls compared to this. If you haven't seen it stop reading and get out a get yourself a copy, you won't be disappointed, and if you are, you're a weirdo!
Heat (1995)
249th, what the f*!k.
I can not believe this film is ranked higher in the imdb top 250 films. This film should at least be in the top 5. How can films like "fight club", "singing in the rain", "some like it hot" be ranked higher than Heat, not to mention a host of others. It's a total travisty, and it also shows that people wouldn't know a classic film if jumped up a pointed a M-16 in thier face.
Le pacte des loups (2001)
Not enough of Dacascos!!!
This film seems to provoke two types of reaction, love or hate. I'm sort of in the middle. The film is alright. I wouldn't buy it nor would I condemn it.
The main problem with this movie is that Mark Dacascos isn't involved enough. Every time he is on the screen he is dominant and is buy far the most mysterious and complex, and so by definition, the most interesting character in the movie. The film would have been so much better if Mani was around a bit more.
The story line is above average. It keeps you hooked to the screen. I think because it is based on a true story it grabs peoples imagination. Because the beast really did claim over 100 victims in Gevaudan it adds a bit more horror to the tale.
The directing was good as well. Slow-mo mixed with real-time in the fighting scenes was good, reminds me of sam packinpah. The country side was spectacular and the costumes looked magnificent, but when Dacascos is in the cast I expect a lot more ass kicking!
This movie is defiantly worth renting for the night, but it's not a classic.
Scum (1979)
Excellent film.
I have seen this film a couple of times in the last 15 years. I was only 3 when it first came and I remember looking at the VHS cover in my local rental shop a few years after. My dad always told me that I was too little to see it. Fast forward a few years and a guy at my school was passing a copy around so obviously I asked to borrow it. After seeing it for the first time I've watched every time it comes on tv.
****SPOILERS****
Every one has already gone on about the amount of English actors that are today household names who made their debut in scum. Also a lot of people say that the most shocking scenes are the pool balls in the sock, the toilet beating, and the infamous rape scene. I however found that the last scene with the four guys being dragged bloody and semi conscience down a corridor to their cells was sickening and is the one scene that really stays with me. I think that it just showed that you cant beat the system!!
Excellent film, if you havent seen it yet, and your from england, fix up and find a copy just to see what all the fuss is about.
Men at Work (1990)
top film
This is a top film for when you,ve got no money and nothing to do. This film is nothing but pure fun to watch. From Carl and James shooting blokes in the ass with a pelet gun, to louis' nam flash backs, to the two quarreling hitmen who lose a body, to a pizza guy who has with out doubt the worst night of his life, to the two peace officers intent on giving james a hard time. This film is not ment to be a big screen classic, it's a little film thats got good actors in it and a fun story line. If you get a chance to seen this film you wont be disappointed. If you are, go and rent titanic!
Scarface (1983)
This is how you do it large
What a film! I have seen this film so many times I can flip into montanna mode at the drop of a hat. No other film comes close to this. Stylish, brutile, symbolic, revolutionary, a true master piece for every one involved. I dont think people actually relise how influential this film is. When I go to see a film, or any of my friends go to the movies, its always "was it as good as scar face", always comparing the feeling i get when the last shot closes in the film. To finish, if you havent seen this film not only must you live under some rock in outer mongolia, but your missing one of, if not the finest films ever made.
