The Witcher: The Art of the Illusion (2023)
Why so confusing
The episode before ended with a "cliffhanger" that Yen and Geralt enter a (mage) party. Now in this they are suddenly preparing for the party and talk about it. Short "backstory"? Ok... why didn't you do this before?
Well, they enter the party. Stuff happens. They dance (whatever..:) Suddenly we are back at their room and they are having sex and talking about the "next day and the party"??? Wtf is going on?
Oh, they enter the party again ... and basically the same happens. A few things from another perspective, but basically we knew most of it. Is this Teletubbies?
And no, it is not like "see the party from Geralts perspective" and then "see the party from Yens perspective". It is just back and forth and ... I'm not really sure what the writers thought with this thing? Why do we not get the episode chronologically? Was that already an AI writing and didn't know what is going on?
I read the books and in this scene there is extensive talk and switcheroo of "sexual content" and "sheming and intrigue". Did they try to capture this in this stupid way? Because it is a mess! It doesn't add anything good to the epsiode. So why do it?
The acting from the main cast is ok and they try to make it work. But overall it is a bad episode! Nothing to sugarcoat here...
Game of Thrones (2011)
Really Surprised!
Damn you George R.R. Martin! Don't do movies, finish the damn next book ... oh wait ... he did! OK! Than let's look at the series...
Well, above statement has a meaning: I read the books! Yeah, big deal, but when I did I always thought: "It is not possible to do a movie about this!" And I was right! ... but they did a series! And I can't really believe it, but: It (well, the pilot) is quite good! Never expected that!
Also funny how many people talk about the nudity and/or the gore. Yes you see some breasts and so on ... so what? This is a fantasy, that is realistic (if you didn't read the books and don't know, what I mean by that: Wait and watch the series ... and you will be surprised!) so the scenes are realistic too! I like that! Adds more to the feeling of the books!
The main problem is, that if you don't know the books you are quite lost with the characters and what happened to all of them. But I hope we will get deeper into the minds and backgrounds of those people! The cast for that is really well done and I hope for they can pass on the feelings I got when I read the book!
Overall: Great start, hoping for Brilliance!
Die besten Frauen der Welt (2008)
Better than the men ... not only on the field
Just saw this documentary on TV. Like the "male-version" last year, "Deutschland. Ein Sommermärchen", this movie looks behind the curtains of a German football team; this time the female national team.
While the producers of the "Sommermärchen" had authorization problems to follow the team to certain places, the success of the movie made it possible to do this one much smoother and you know it!
Because of this Britta Becker (the director) presents us a "better version" of "Sommermärchen".
It's nice to see a "deeper look" into the problems of female football. Like that most of them have jobs next to football and sometimes have problems getting time for training or such "little" events. Also they talk much about their football-life and how much problems they had to get acknowledged, even as little kids.
Interrupted by their games (and goals) the movie works it way up to the final match. There German "static" and "focus" meets Brazilian "fire" and "emotion". That shall show the viewer that, even if many people only smile at female football, the difference between male and female football is not that big.
The only problem in this movie is, that at no time they show the names of the players (and other peoples) while speaking. And sorry, I didn't even know all the male players, yet alone now the female players!
The IT Crowd (2006)
just great!
The IT Crowd is just the funniest series I saw in ages! The plot is about Jen, a manager, that get's stuck into an office with - to quote the boss - "standard nerds", Roy and Moss. But if you think, the series is about computers and only technical talk, you are far away from the truth! It's more about the social life and the connection between the nerds and Jen (and Richmond and Denholm and...) But if you see the series for the first time, don't think, the first episode is all about to know! If I had to sort the 6 Episodes from bad to best, I would say, Episode 1 is the worst of them; but quite good enough for many laughs, so be prepared for the more hilarious stuff still to come! I can't wait to see the next season...
