William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill (2023)
As one of the investors in this film...
...I give it a solid 9 stars. There were only a few surprises for a die-hard Shatner fan like me, but the joy in watching this film was in the hour and a half, very personal monologue from Shatner. Introspective most times and at other times, filled with humor and anecdotal tales of his past, present and limited future. I would have given this ten stars were it not for Bill coming back to global warming time and again. I have no issues with a person having an opinion, but I'm of the position that once you espouse it, let your audience decide for themselves. No need to harp on it - we get it. Other than that, I enjoyed every moment of the red carpet premiere in Playa Vista.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
More Woke Crap from Hollywood
Canceled my FREE Paramount sub, this was so bad in season two. We watch Star Trek to be entertained, not hit with a constant spiel of woke ideology. I'm guessing that Paramount went with low-bidder on the writers - most who are probably not too long out of some leftist, public institution of indoctrination.
Elvis (2022)
I grew up through his last years.
I was about 14 when the words flashed across the the TV, "King of Rock, Elvis Presley Dead at 42". I had several family members who were huge fans so I wasn't oblivious to this man's history. It was a sad day.
This was a very well done movie, if not a wee bit too long. They could have edited down quite a number of scenes, frankly.
Being a Las Vegas native, it was fun to watch the latter part of the movie that centered on his time here.
Watch this on the big screen. It is worthy.
I Think We're Alone Now (2018)
It took me two days to see this snooze-fest to the end.
I used to say that any post-apocalyptic flick is better than no post-apocalyptic flick. Not anymore. I don't mind a slow moving film but there needs to be something in it to keep me intellectually engaged. This movie did not achieve that in any scene. The sheer, over-powering mediocrity, was in and of itself, apocalyptic for the viewer. Ugh. Just, UGH.
Without Remorse (2021)
Two Dimensional Tripe
Just another Amazon bomb. Save your time. Characters are boring and flat. I made it half way through before turning it off and never once did I ever give one iota of care about whether any given character lived or died. Just bland. Amazon seems to produce a lot of duds like this.
Killing Oswald (2013)
Was pretty good until the end
...more liberal revisionist history regarding Kennedy and the Viet Nam war.
The Ventures: Stars on Guitars (2020)
How do you have a Ventures Movie without any Nokie
I don't get it. No old Nokie interviews? Why isn't he listed in the credits?
Tenet (2020)
Completely Unwatchable Tripe
People giving this more than three stars really need to watch a few more decent movies. This thing was so bad, it was unbelievable. And that final, ridiculous explosion-fest was so long and boring, I kept dozing off - no joke. It was was like the Energizer Bunny - it kept going and going and going. Ugh - just UGH.
Cosmos (2019)
Great flick and well worth the view
I rarely will watch a movie more than once. I saw Contact once. I saw Arrival twice.I have few movies in my library that get a yearly view. This will be one of them. I could name all the reasons it is worthy but better writers than I have already spelled that out in previous reviews. I will say this - while these types of movies aren't everyone's cup of tea, one would have to have the imagination of a gnat to not find at least SOME redeeming qualities in this film.
Frame 313: The JFK Assassination Theories (2008)
Interesting Documentary
I have to admit that for most of my life as an adult, I dismissed the conspiracy theories regarding Kennedy's assassination. This documentary is the first one I have seen that really lays out all of the possibilities and backs it up with discussion and interviews with folks who were there, on the scene when everything went down.
Of course, the possibility exists (as in any conspiracy) that some of these interviews are faked - grin.
Even if it doesn't prove or disprove any particular theory, it sure shows the viewer that The Kennedys made a lot of enemies in the land of Camelot.
Enterprise (2001)
Best Trek ever, for me but with caveats.
The original intent of exploring strange new worlds seems to have been lost right after the demise of TOS. I get so tired of the writers projecting the same political and politically correct crap we have here on Earth into outer space. I WANT to see strange new worlds and new life - not the same, tired rehashed political nonsense. Who cares if the Klingons are uprising? Leave them alone and go explore space for crying out loud.
OK, that's my rant. Now my rave: I just watched Enterprise from first episode to last and I am dumbfounded that this series only made it four seasons! What a great and refreshing ride. Characters I could actually relate to instead of the always ultra-pure and perfect TNG ones. Enterprise characters had flaws like real human beings. A great show. I wish it would have lasted longer. Maybe they burnt out the audience with that Voyager and DS9 crap.
Small Soldiers (1998)
Small Soldiers - Fun!
I was really surprised to come here and see the relatively low rating of this flick. I enjoyed it in 1998 when it came out, and tonight while watching it the second time, I think I enjoy it as much or more as I did then. It was a groundbreaking film for CGI with a fun plot that any age could enjoy. (Ok, so maybe the Barbie Doll scenes were a little creepy for someone under the age of 9.) Definitely worth the watch IMO, if you would like to have an evening of good, fanciful fun.
Not a blockbuster by any means, but definitely entertaining.
And besides, what kid wouldn't want to have a box full of toys that could actually communicate with him??
