My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Oompah!
This is a great movie. It was definetly not what I expected.
It's about a Greek girl whos parents always tell her to find a Greek husband {her father states that she's so "old"}, but she has alot of trouble finding Mr. Right. Then, one day she meets the man of her dreams. They fall in love, and then decide to get married. But there's one problem: keeping her wacky Greek family away. You should really see this movie. It's been out for 6 months already, and it's making more money each week, pretty good for an indie movie. And, this Labor Day weekend {which, of course, will not make any money}, this movie will come out first. Oompah!
Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams (2002)
not as good as the first, but still good
I saw this movie today {opening}, and it wasn't what I expected. Of course, everyone loved Spy Kids. Such a clever movie. I expected this one to be terrible. But, it was really good. It basically takes off where the first one left off, with the Cortez youngsters {slightly larger, as the tagline suggests} real spys. But, they have some competition. Gary and Gertie Giggles, the new Spy Kids of the year, are the kid's rivals, except for Carmen Cortez, who has a secret crush on Gary. Anyways, the secret "Transmooker" device is stolen. It is a device used to shut off all the power in the world. It gets stolen, and the Giggles kids get the assignment to the Island Of Lost Dreams to return it. But, the Spy Kids make a little switch in plans, and end up going to the Island Of Lost Dreams, where illusions are free. The gadgets are cool, Steve Buscemi is great, Mrs. Cortez' parents arrive, which means more trouble, and I won't tell you who the real bad guy is, because that would spoil the movie. The movie is very good, and has its cleverness, but it doesn't live up to the 1st one. I hope Spy Kids 3 will be better. 7/10
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
The best animated movie {yet}
I saw this movie when it first came out, and I loved it. I mean, can you get any better than a pack of monsters thinking kids are contaminated? This is the best idea for an animated movie {yet, considering that Pixar, the CGI company, always gets better and better with every movie}. It takes place in a city called Monstropolis, not far from your closet door. In the city, there is a company called Monsters Incorporated, where monsters of all shapes and sizes go into closet doors around the world and pop out scaring little kids, while collecting their source of energy: children's screams. This may seem like a baby story to you, but it really isn't. 2 Monsters, Sulley and Mike, accidentally let a kid inside the monster world {where monsters think kids are contaminated}, and you know what that means. Total mayhem. I won't give away anything, you might as well wait for the DVD release in September. You have to see this movie. If you absolutely loved any of the Toy Story movies, then you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO SEE THIS GREAT MOVIE. 10/10 stars
Shrek (2001)
I am speechless See this movie NOW!!
This, by far, is the most highly successful and one of the top 5 animated movies, and no matter what, you have to see it. Not kidding. Enter Shrek, a stubborn, fat, mean ogre who likes to spend his privacy in his swamp. His. Remember that.No one else. In town, there is a reward for people who have fairy-tale creatures such as the three little pigs. A very talkative donkey runs away from the guards who want him, and meets Shrek, but Shrek does'nt give the donkey{Donkey} a warm welcome. One day, Shrek finds tons of fairy tale creatures hiding at his swamp, and he gets very angry. The creatures tell him that Lord Farquaad forced them to go there, so Shrek journeys to DuLoc with Donkey. The Lord is seeking a princess, named Fiona, so he can be "king". When Shrek complains to Farquaad, Farquaad asks Shrek to rescue the princess and bring her back to DuLoc, and Shrek will get his swamp back. Eddie Murphy steals the film, and Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz make a stunning performance. I know that when you look at the cover of this film, you think, "Oh, not another stupid family movie to waste my money for my kids to go." But you're wrong. WRONG. Just ask anyone else who's seen Shrek. 90% of them will say "I loved it." The other 10% will say, "I'm not interested in that animated crap. I don't like comedies" or something like that. I can't wait for Shrek 2 to come. This movie also has alot of inside jokes for all you adults out there. Buy this movie on VHS or DVD, show it to your kids, save it for a couple of years, then show it to them, and they'll say, "This movie changed the way I look at animation and fairy tales." It sure did to me, i tell you. By the way, check out the extended ending on the VHS and DVD, right after the movie {after I'm a beliver}.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
Not to offend anybody.......
Um, I know it's kind of hard to say this, because all you Mel Brooks lovers out there just love this movie. But I did'nt like it. I love Mel, but this movie is not what I call funny. It was just stupid. The ending also did'nt make sense.
