Oil City Confidential (2009)
Perfect rock film - intelligent, passionate and lets the band and music speak
Hard to believe Dr Feelgood had fallen so far below everyone's radar. This is a magnificent film about an IMPORTANT band. I've watched it three times on BBC iPlayer and enjoyed it more each time.
If, like me, you grew up with the Clash, Stranglers, Pistols et al and thought their sound simply emerged from nowhere then think again. The Feelgoods pointed the way and all else followed. They are the missing link between Blues, RnB (the real stuff) and punk. Totally unique, a one off, much like this wonderful, quirky film.
Oh, and without question, Wilko Johnson is a genius - a mad genius, but a genius nevertheless.
If you care about the history of rock then watch this and learn...
RIP Lee Brilleaux
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
White knuckle roller coaster ride - fantastic
I loved it. I can't understand all the carping about the camera shake - it really adds to the film.
Not quite up to the first, better than the second - and let's face it the ending was contrived to leave open the possibility of a fourth.
It left me breathless, just like United 93. Greengrass is a genius.
I loved the multinational feel, the relentless of the chase and the fantastic fight scenes. The bad guys get what they deserve and Bourne is triumphant... or is he, will he hook up with Nicki? I'm sure the next Bourne will reveal all!
I hope there is another one, but only if it's good enough. I'd much rather a perfectly formed trio, rather than a disappointing quartet.
Low Winter Sun (2006)
Dark, very dark
Up there with Prime Suspect (another Mark Strong arena). A wonderful piece of Brit suspense/thriller writing and acting. Highly recommended viewing. Although it was a good 2.5 hours long it never lost its pace or dark feel. Great title too - a real piece of TV noir
Nice to see John Session acting again, haven't seen him in anything for a while. His scenes will put you off your dinner though...
I did find some of the story a little convoluted and found the pass the parcel with 'the bag' a little hard to believe, but these are small criticisms; it is great edge-of- the-seat drama.
Nice one Channel 4 - more please.
