Miss Scarlet & the Duke: The Black Witch Moth (2022)
The resolution is weak
I love all episodes of this series uptil now but the resolution of this episode is lacking.
If the sketch of the moth was stolen that night itself, how did Mrs Dashwood have time to put it inside the bust of Darwin? Was the bust hollow to begin with? Did it have a slot through which the sketch could be inserted? Or was a duplicate bust made with the paper sealed inside? Again, that begs the question: how did they have so much time on their hands?
Also, how does a theft stir interest in the general populace to visit the museum, if they never visited before even though the famous sketch by Darwin was prominently displayed?
Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)
Power packed performance by Alia
The USP of the film has to be Alia's acting. The other actors have suitably supported her, most noticeably Shantanu.
The screenplay was tad contrived in some places, but never fails to keep your interest. Another drawback is the film's abrupt ending.
Love Hostel (2022)
Pertinent but needed better execution
The movie tackles pertinent social issues but the execution could have been better. Particularly in the case of the character of Dagar and the threat he represents is shown as larger than life, yet people don't recognise him on the streets. The last two twists added a new flavour to the film.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
one time watch
The film was an enjoyable ride from start to finish. One should definitely watch it for this is a smart and funny callback to the teen slasher genre famous in the 90s and 2000s.
The movie has, I guess, to adapt to visual media, changed a lot of character back-stories and friendship groups and of course, most importantly, the identity of the killer.
Unfortunately, this meant it had to reduce several characters to the stereotypic way they have always been portrayed in media- the jock, the stoner etc. This was not the case in the book (I read the book before watching the movie). The characters were all humanized and had more dimensions in the book. I specifically hated the portrayal of the student president Katie as a hypocritical person, while she was a genuine and thoughful person in the books. Also, the movie robbed us of pink-haired Ollie. :(
Mukhosh (2021)
A slick Bengali thriller; okay for a one-time watch
The film favours style over substance. The acting by the main cast is worth watching, though the story and screenplay sometimes lets that aspect down.
Five Feet Apart (2019)
What I felt about this title
Touching movie on how two teenagers with cystic fibrosis fall in love. The climax is supremely emotional. Would recommend 10/10.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
What I felt about this title
A twisty tour into a person's psyche. Until you reach the end, you won't figure out what the whole movie is about. Even then, you might be confused. I know I was.
Forever My Girl (2018)
What I felt about this title
A feel-good musical based romance. Breezy to watch.
Started watching this for Jessica Rothe, stayed back for the cute and at times precocious Billy Ann played by Abby Ryder Fortson.
Vacancy (2007)
Somewhat liked this film
Some genuine thrills and spooks are there which spice up an otherwise run-of-the-mill, humdrum thriller.
