Extraña forma de vida (2023)
Short and disappointing
It's literally a short film. Only half an hour and the ending leaves you perplexed and wondering what is it the director wanted to say or is it just a window into the hidden love and lust of cowboys for each other in times past. The acting leaves alot to be desired and the plot I found to be overly simplistic. There are some scenes of passion especially the younger actors who in flashbacks of both the sheriff and this ex lover share their love and passion for each other in a wine drinking splashing rolling moment in the movie. Plus a very short sequence of the older ones in bed together after they have dinner. This short film reminded me of back mountain and thinking why this one too wasn't made into something on par in depth and sophistication with that. In one word it was disappointing.
Nuovo Olimpo (2023)
Absolute delight
This film is destined to be a classic. Wonderfully directed acted and scripted. The ending isn't a happy one but I think that was intended. However the love portrayed by these two actors are as genuine as can be. There are holes in the script as to why they didn't try harder to find each other again after an accident and series of events separated them. Maybe this reason alone and how "time and space get in the way" of their deep love for each other makes the story sad albeit more compelling. I truly enjoyed watching it and highly recommend it. Oztepek other movie A Turkish bath too was thoroughly enjoyable.
Le bleu du caftan (2022)
Enjoyable but slow
Performance of all the main characters is quite good and deliver the emotional depth of their roles. The movie reflects a truthful depiction of gay life - hidden and closeted - in Morroco which can be true of any of the middle eastern countries. The storyline develops rather slowly and revolves around the three main characters of Halim the tailor his wife mina and Youssef the new apprentice who becomes the new amour of his moalem - tailor cum teacher - early on. There are a few instances of gay sex in hamam but does not reveal the actual sex scene only when both men walk into a shower stand. The film focuses more on the challenges and taboos which gay men face and the emotions which is rather refreshing. Overall it's worth watching and I rather enjoyed it.
Last Night (2010)
Excellent in everyway
Storyline directing acting soundtrack editing subject matter et al are truly captivating and you hardly notice the time pass as you watch this excellent film. The title is well chosen too as it sums up what only one night can reveal about true feelings and push away all the confusion and doubts that might exist in relationships. It touches on commitment faithfulness temptation and making choices all of which are more or less familiar universally experienced sentiments. I am surprised that reviews have not given this movie the deserved points and I believe this is a very well thought written and directed movie.
Benediction (2021)
Sadness revisited
The overwhelming essence is sadness and incomprehension of the poet vis-à-vis those men he comes into contact with or has affairs with and who eventually abandon him. As I watched it I couldn't help but notice the similarities of modern day gay life with that of the 19th century and wondering why this is a recurring theme among most gay men. It's a well directed well acted movie with broken time sequence here and there. Worth watching to learn again and again of the fickleness of mankind the stupidity of wars and the inability to appreciate life humanely and not voraciously.
Poised (2019)
Interesting intertwines and twists based on a true story
I finally managed to download and watch it. It's a storyline with interesting twists and intertwined relations and paths crossing which is made even more fun to watch as it's based on a true story. This is mentioned at the end of the movie and not the beginning. Acting is ok and what the movie depicts is a reflection of what is sadly an experience shared by many gay men. I definitely recommend it.
Dashing in December (2020)
More like a debut school project B movie
Watched it boring predictable and the editing is awful it just cuts and jumps from one to the next without any transitioning acting leaves much to be desired the plot is simply too obvious
