Family Guy: You May Now Kiss the... Uh... Guy Who Receives (2006)
Funny, but stupidly preachy episode
This is a funny Family Guy episode, mainly because it has THE ALL POWERFUL MAYOR ADAM WEST as a main character, but the political preachiness kind of spoils the episode. It's all about how Lois is anti-gay marriage, then after a couple of lame fluff preach scenes she suddenly sees the error of her ways and is pro-gay marriage.
Seth MacFarlane is liberal so Family Guy episodes do usually curve that way, but they still end up making fun of everybody without taking itself seriously, but this episode was preachy as all get out, which makes it kind of hard to go back to. We watch shows like this for the funny, not social commentary Seth. Fortunately, Adam West saves the day.
Yes Man (2008)
Yes and No
Yes Man is an entertaining movie with a great concept with quality one liners, but lackluster execution. It also has two excellent lead characters thanks to Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel. The problem with Yes Man is that it's a very sloppy movie. There seems to be little basis for a plot, or any direction the movie is supposed to go in general. Some language and scenes were also uncomfortably awkward and unnecessary, only bringing the movie down, leaving a bad aftertaste; Yes Man was clearly borderline rated R.
Anyway, the whole movie itself has sparks of brilliance, but may just be too random and ridiculous for its own good, to the point that when its over, you're not quite sure what you just witnessed. It's kind of like the product of an intelligent, creative student starting on a school project the night before its due; there are sparks of brilliance, but they're negated by its own flaws. Yes Man is a weird movie, and I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing.
My favorite scenes were definitely the ones where Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel are just running around together being spontaneously carefree, because these two actors are great; they clearly carry the movie and are the best and only reasons you should say yes to watching Yes Man. For Jim and Zooey, it's worth a rental, and for them alone.
Ed, Edd n Eddy (1999)
A true Cartoon Network classic, and classic cartoon in general
Hey, I just turned 18 6 days ago, and after watching this show for 8 years (sure seems like it hasn't been that long) and growing up with it, it's just an awesome cartoon. It has it's own style of humor, great characters, all of them, and it's one of the most original cartoons that have been on the past decade.
Ed Edd n Eddy is funny, clever, never boring and there's a reason it's been on for 8 years -- it's just absolutely great. I just love it, always have since I was.. 10 I guess (man). I'm sad that it's ending, but all legends have to retire eventually, right? If anything, it had an absolutely amazing run as a television show. I'm going to try to get the Ed Edd n Eddy DVD soon.
Just really, Ed Edd n Eddy is an absolute classic show that I'll remember as one of my favorite (not just cartoons, but shows)until I die, my life is better for having watched it. May sound a little extreme, but hey, this cartoon is an awesome force and always will be.
