Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Trying With No Success
Just as it's shot in b/w, this film is flat. The acting forced, the content circles over and over, the story line lacks authenticity, and all together it's like a helium balloon that deflated over time. The writing and acting Washington forces in attempts to feel/sound/look deep and having value as the storyline's filmaker and boyfriend of a "less than" girlfriend he needs for his sense of being a "good person/ego booster" yet also has an inner desire to keep subjugated. It's a long, boring film that tries and falls flat.
Chambers (2019)
Time I'll Never Get Back
The first few episodes were interesting. Then as the storyline became more involved, confusion began. What did it for me and I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this was the ending. As with so many mediocre shows/movies, it's as though the writers were so tired of the lack of direction or any interesting content they could muster up into a strong finish, they gave up and ended it with a drip. Plus I'm shocked that such a strong actress as Thurman agreed to this lackluster. Maybe she needed funds?
Grand Isle (2019)
Weak Story Line and Poor Acting
Although the story line was weak, both Cage and Grammer were very poor in their acting skills and wrong accents, literally ruining this movie. They called it in. Probably should stop trying to act all together. They can't do the job.
Compliance (2012)
Jarring
As a true story this movie should be as disturbing as it is. It is exploitive of a young woman and goes against tastefully done and closer to titillating "soft porn." It shows how people as a whole are easily manipulated and readily willing to adhere to "authority" even without proper identification and when directives go against moral or logical explanation. An excellent example of The Milgram Experiment. NOT for children or easily offended viewers!
Speed Kills (2018)
Like A Mannequin's Face
Travolta has one range, dull. If another actor was the lead this would have been a better movie. Plus the entire movie was of a guy that looked and moved like a mannequin. His face was bizarre to the point of scary. His toupees may have depicted the era but were absolutely hideous. Was tough watching him play the father to a son with whom he clearly did not care much about, reminding me of the son he lost to situations that could have been thwarted if the circumstances were different. A hard no on this flophouse movie.
The Great North (2021)
Will Give It Time
Great cast. Interesting premise. I'll give it time to see the characters evolve.
Time (2020)
Why and What Is She Questioning
She's an advocate trying to get her husband's prison term shortened. She speaks so highly of her marriage and trust in God, yet doesn't say "don't rob banks." They robbed a bank with weapons. Why was this documentary even made? It seems like an attempt to gain sympathy. But they robbed a bank! Why is she so surprised he's in prison? Then he chooses to not plead guilty and is sentenced 60 years. She gets so angry on the phone call when a person isn't putting more effort into getting calls through to professionals, she's swearing and then her true colors come out, not the persona she put on at church and with all her public speaking. They robbed a bank. What did she think was going to happen? Oh, right, she makes a documentary. SMH
The Beach Bum (2019)
Just No
The entire movie can be summed up by two sentences of dialogue by Jonah Hill's character talking to McConaughey's character towards the end of the movie:
"You know what I like most about being rich? You can just be horrible to people and they just have to take it."
And then McConaughey laughs.
The entire movie is wealthy entitled people purposely hurting others, even disabled people, and doing whatever they want and can do to exploit people and do drugs, have all types of sex and act like nothing they do is above morals or the law.
The entire movie is despicable on many levels.
Money Plane (2020)
Actor Ruined the Movie
Everything with Kelsey Grammer ruins it. A misogynistic has-been he's tired and a poser.
The Hungover Games (2014)
Couldn't Get Past One Glaring Issue
I couldn't get past they billed Bruce Jenner as Caitlyn Jenner when the film came out in 2014 and Bruce/Caitlyn came out the following year. Because of this one issue I couldn't even watch the rest of the film after Bruce's character arrived on screen.
Ratched (2020)
Interesting Compilation of Characters and Storyline
The best part is Sophie Okonedo's acting range and skill. The backdrop, colors and wardrobe in the series are beautiful. The story line is both complex and somewhat unremarkable. Given the time frame the series depicts, the subject matters makes sense in its dramatic taboos. I'm wondering what will happen next if it's picked up again. At first I thought the first episode was dry and boring and then my interest was peaked. Time will tell if it gets better, or less interesting.
Job Guys (2020)
WTF
This show is truly a fail. Everything from the lame writing, the lack of acting, and the problematic videography I'm not even sure teen males would find this interesting or funny. How this show even got on the air is mind boggling. If you want to waste your time and kill brain cells, this is a good choice
The Master (2012)
Another View
This movie is an overview of Scientology. A different take but very onpoint.
