I can't believe Gerard Butler did this. This was the worst film I've seen in about 10 years. Every sentence had the f-word. Not that I care, but can't you write anything better? The whole movie was so straight-forward and pretty much pointless. A painful watch.

Stillwater
(2021)
Sorry folks, this was a clunker.

The trailer is misleading. I was expecting a combination of a dad on a vengeance/murder investigation/courtroom drama with a little bit of "man on fire." It's nothing like that. It's a very slow paced relationship and love story that goes back-and-forth between the two, lacks real focus and even has some corniness and awkwardness that I would attribute to a poor script. On top of that somehow the contrast just didn't work; Oklahoma rig worker in France, you would think it would be interesting but it just didn't work.
The movie picks up after the girl had already been in prison for five years so my immediate thought was "where do we go from here then?" And I don't think the writers knew either.

The most underrated movie of the decade

This is an outstanding film that just wasn't marketed well. I remember seeing the commercials for it and I didn't understand what it was about so I waited years to give it a try. It's based on the fascinating true story of a Canadian company. I've seen it about 10 times and it never gets old.
There Will Be Blood

Modern Cinema's greatest film

I'm not going to write the Magna Carta here but this is one of the greatest films of all time. Had it been made back in the 1950s it would probably be hailed as the greatest. One of the greatest scrreenwrites, one of the greatest acting performances, one of the greatest scores, character development, you put it all together and this is a cinematic treasure. Perhaps the only movie I've ever rated a 10. I watched it today for the first time in 10 years and it's just as powerful.
The Christmas Contract
(2018 TV Movie)
Not that bad; watchable.

I'm grading on the curve here; in the context of this genre (Lifetime-ish/TV holiday romance movies). This wasn't that bad as far as this genre goes. Could have benefited from better acting in the male lead role but I like the Louisiana setting and the women in it are hot.
Savage Youth
(2018)
Not what I expected; very good.

I was expecting something like "Havoc," with Anne Hathaway. This movie had more of an artistic slant and was more cerebral. It has a haunting quality plus it's based on a true story (loosely). I rarely say this about a movie but the lead guy in this role was scary, which draws you in and makes it believable. I was surprised, but it was very good.
Boomtown
(2017)
Better than expected and very realistic.

Alot better than I expected, the main actor is very endearing and the situations are realistic and well acted. Good music.
I used to work in the business side of oil and gas and it really is like this. It's very boom and bust and when the times are good, it's great and when it's bust, it's really bad and you're hurting. Plus it can change on a dime. Then just when you think you're out and moving on, it ticks back up and lures you back.
Although I have not been to Williston, I have heard that it really is like this, kind of an outlaw town due to the industry presence.
