Barbarians (2021)
Wrong Movie, Still Enjoyed It
I'm probably not the only one who thought I was renting Barbarian (2022). That movie, I'm told, is a twisty thriller that benefits the viewer going in knowing nothing. So armed with that knowledge I rented this nearly identically titled twisty thriller with recognizable cast members, stylish direction, a good script, and an effective mood. It was 100% worth the $0.99 on Amazon. Was I a little embarrassed when I learned I'd watched the wrong movie? Yes. But I regret nothing. It was 90 minutes of tight plotting, good acting and dialogue, unconventional elements, and decent art direction. I'll wait and see how it compares to Barbarian, lol.

Well Observed Urban Gay Rom Com
We laughed out loud a lot in this one. It's not as uproariously funny as Neighbors or Bridesmaids, but it is very funny - sometimes with punchlines, sometimes through cringe, sometimes from sly observations and satire. Billy gets to show his dramatic range in a way that's surprising and effective. Contemporary urban gay men will recognize much/most of the movie's situations, and there are a few jokes in there just for us. But there's enough humor and heart for a much broader audience, and some situations that will give everyone much to talk about. I hope this movie finds an audience because we deserve more like it.

Self-Aware Gay Take on Hallmark Christmas
This isn't a gay parody of a Hallmark Christmas movie, but it is self-aware as it steps through the beats and tropes of that typical seasonal movie. Great cast, some genuine laughs, and a sweetness that rivals uncut eggnog. It was the perfect backdrop to gift wrapping.
