Micro budget but big fun
6 October 2020
26 segments give a headache. 4 is the right number. When they're different kinds of stories, it's the winning formula.

This anthology is evidence money is not necessarily the right tool (sometimes it is if for example you wanna shoot the siege of Jerusalem). Fun and integrity are the most essential mammals for nourishing moviegoers.

And this is what you have here. You got monsters, big knives, hillbillies, femmes fatale and... a giallo set in the good old 70s (the cab is beautiful, I want the same car!).

Acting could have been better but hey it adds to the charm alongside with the leg show.

Extraordinary

Yes we've seen it thousands of times, but each time is a wonderful experience. You know the story by heart, but you discover new things again and again. This film is King Vidor in all his glory. Fantastic photography, great shots. For a film of 1931, it's crazy how the image remains beautiful. The story is gripping and the acting is superb even though at times over the top. Deserves to be shown and watched again and again.

Hum...

No story, zero character. The guys are too stupid and the babe is unsignificant. Unbelievable situations. It's just ridiculous

Such a disappointment

Bruce Willis + Eli Roth + Paul Kersey and you expect something explosive, you sit down comfortably in your couch. Quickly, you feel there is something wrong. The guy who is responsible for the Hostel franchise became a lazy wise bourgeois who is afraid of shocking. Murders are off-screen. Yep, can you believe this? It's ok for the regular afternoon-film-on-TV but certainly not for a Paul Kersey's adventure. The story is ridiculous and flat and even Bruce Willis doesn't seem motivated except at times. Get back for sure to your good old Paul Kerseys, at least ou get a guy who cleans up the street with a Gatling machine-gun.
