Jigeum uri hakgyoneun (2022)
Amazingly, nothing makes any sense at all
Acting was sub par even for a teenage Korean series. The female lead has exactly one expression. All characters behave in the most irrational ways possible. The whole refugee camp arc has nothing to do with anything at all. The pace of the series was so slow and nonsensical that you can skip most of the boring, script-reading scenes.
Devs (2020)
Tech checks out. Acting and pacing do not
Agreeing with the majority of the reviews - lead actress very amateur and untalented. Pacing was pretentious and far too slow. If this was one episode of Black Mirror it would've been very promising. Ending was plot manipulation and poorly executed. When the effort was all about simulation and predictions, suddenly they could inject people's subconscious into a fake reality? That's very far fetched
The one thing I give them is that the quantum and AI technology do check out - they did cover the major principles and everything's in-line with what's being discussed in the two disciplines as of 2020
How It Ends (2018)
Gripping, until you knows "how it ends" without any ending
Never thought I'd have to write such a bad review for a Forest Whitaker movie. I am with the majority of the reviews - super entertaining until the very end, when you realize how cheap the writers are by ending the movie abruptly so to never have to explain such a messy plethora of mysterious events. The good reviews read way into the "symbolism" and "metaphors", which are important elements of a decent movie. Guess what? So is AN ENDING!
6 Underground (2019)
0 plot/character development + 100% action = Desensitization
When you think Michael Bay couldn't saturate a movie with more action than, well, basically all his previous flicks, think again.
This movie is like the high school jock who tries too hard to be cool EVERY. SINGLE. MICROSECOND.
Also, Ryan Reynold's narration is too reminiscent of his Deadpool character. I doubt he can shed that anytime soon. All his jokes in this film are far inferior.
One of the five stars I give it is for the pretty awesome computer graphics.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Absolutely LOVED IT
Other than some minor plot holes and parts that could've been better brought out in the plot, I figure this zombie (or infected-people, take your pick) movie is amongst the horror movie epics of all times. It's not scary in a sense that you have to cover your eyes for a particular scene, it is gory, bloody and most of all thought-provoking that keeps you on your toes the whole time, or perhaps even after the movie. It kept me thinking the whole time after I came out of the theater and I kept thinking about the hopelessness portrayed in the movie. The symbolism of the real world of people hurting/backstabbing/destroying people is so strong. You can see how this relates to your own life, that's where the movie "infects" you the most.
Dek hor (2006)
Excellent movie with an unusual plot.
I would've given this a 10 if the unnecessary sex scenes were cut out. Afterall, as you can see from the movie poster, this movie is about a bunch of kids in a dorm, nudity is uncalled for. I really like the hilarious parts of the movie where they integrate some mixed feelings of horror and comedy. I would say the Thai are pioneers in terms of putting funny elements in a scary movie - especially in those specific parts. The two little actors did great. They really depicted their short-lived friendship so dramatically without too much exaggeration. I especially liked the kid who starred as Vicien, he did an exceptional job portraying the solitude and benignancy yet he still managed to send chills down the spine at some parts.
