Don (I) (2006)
Not bad ...not good - 50-50 :)
20 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Don't compare this movie with the original DON. Nobody can touch the performance given by legendary, one and only Amitabh. I would say the old DON, the plot and thought was ahead of its time, but in that era "bollywood" was not ready to shoot movies abroad. Now "bollywood" is capable of shooting a movie across the globe so we see fantastic coverage of Malesia, tall buildings, lights and roads with high speed vehicle. And camera angle, sound effects are really good in this movie. But that we can see in every 5th movie now a days. So whats special in this movie? Surely acting by Boman, SRK, Priyanka and Arjun Rampal. What else, frankly speaking and in my opinion - it would have been better. Story has been twisted, and so why the hell original DON after having Roma and D'Silva in trust will go and sing "Khaike-pan-banaras-wala". In old DON it was real Vijay who couldn't stop himself when he saw "PAAN" after so long, but this intelligent DON will do that instead of running from Malesian police, doesn't appears OK in this hi-tech world. Also plot killed a good man who was helping others so this movie shows evil wins over good - a wrong message. SRK looks dull in many scenes. But looking as a new era movie, when compared with others, it is good and entertaining. So how it would have been better as I commented earlier - if we have got all new songs, and few more minor changes in the story. But go watch this movie because that will be a tribute to the old DON and Amitabh and remember...."Don" "ka" "intejar" "to...."

Don (1978)
A lifetime movie for Amitabh
4 October 2006
Don is the movie, that I am in love with after 'Sholay', so much so that I still remember most of the dialogs, characters, scenes and good performance by many contributors in this movie apart from legendary, one and only, Amitabh Bachhan.

Almost all of the main characters in this movie, though they are doing a typical "bollywood" act, are too good and have given a life to the role, like Pran, Jinat Aman, Om Shivpuri, Iftekhar, Kamal Kapoor, Helen and Shetty.

Every scene keeps you thinking what is next; the suspense, the thrill - it's very exciting, very well played. Add to it, few good songs like "Khaike-Pan-Banaras-Wala", "E-he-Bambai-Nagaraia", and "Mai-hoon-Don" are too good and evergreen. Even the background music is one thing that I love and remember, the one that is there when DON (duplicate) is running to save himself from the police. Dialogues were too good and are still popular all these years - "Don-ka-intezar-to-gyarah-mulkon-ki-police-kar-rahi-hai", "magar-Don-ko-pakadna-mushkil-hi-nahi-namumkin-hai".

No wonder – the re-make version is under production this year (2006) where Shahrukh Khan is playing the DON, and it will be a hit, because the name of the movie itself is famous enough to blow up the box office.
