Fantasy, magical fiction ala Gabriel García Márquez light-hearted
27 June 2007
Audience I watched with found some scenes funny enough to elicit loud laughs but I was led to believe this was a very funny movie, came away thinking it is a involved story that demands that the viewer accept some very unbelievable situations. Some really great staging and filming of some of these situations such as the last scene where a huge chunk of the sandy bank of the Danube breaks away and floats down-stream. The actors are competent maybe even very good. However the story covers fifty years. Makes for a very difficult stretch to accept that an actor can still be so strong, so good looking, so energetic after 50 years have elapsed. Really good score, music very good. One hundred-seventy minutes is a bit long to keep one's full attention though.

Documentary of the food industry in Europe
20 January 2007
The quality of the this film, how it focuses on the various aspects of large and highly advanced agricultural processes used in Europe is very interesting and seems to include a great amount of detail in the various processes that result in the meat and vegetables that are destined to show up on people's dinner tables. From feeding beef cattle to harvesting Irish potatoes we get fine quality shots that include so much information both close-up and deep shots. Most of us are so distanced from how our food is produced. Most producers I would imagine don't really want to let us in on what goes on before the products shows up in our market showcase. The candidness of the images that show the operations where the food is grown and processed is great. I bet that few food producers in the U.S would allow such filming in the establishments

Documentary-like profile of 6 young women over a 5 year span.
27 October 2006
The work that is compiled and shown as the film "Desire" is a medley of video shots done by the young women who are also the subjects of the film. Several of the segments are of the individual women talking to the camera. So this is a very subjective view of how their lives are progressing. I think it is important to point out that these are a group of very determined women since they followed through with this film project over more than 4 years even though they had impediments such as being single moms, unable to finish high school in the regular sense and have significant other problems. A fresh view of teenage girls in New Orleans though.
