Sweet Girl (2021)
Just when I thought it could not get worse along came the plot twist.
I had this movie pegged as a 5/10 until the plot twist. Once the plot twist came along, it instantly dropped to a 4/10 if I am being generous. Watching Jason Momoa's character get manhandled by men half his size during most of the movie seemed preposterous. Once the plot twist came along at least that much made sense. The concept was not atrociously terrible. Someone taking on big pharma, a revenge story, a strong and empowered female. What's not to like? How about the delivery, some of the casting, the execution, etc. When Isabella Merced and Lex Scott Davis would deliver some of their lines you could easily tell they were not buying into what it was they were saying. They both had incredibly important roles and yet they were translucent. It felt as though once Jason Momoa's name was attached to the film almost everyone else gave up and decided they did not need to try because they Jason Momoa in the film. He was certainly the draw for most. Despite what his stature may lead you to believe, he is unable of carrying an entire film on his back. Skip this movie. Lackluster, lazy, a what-could-have-been.
Extinction (2015)
Baffled
As I am writing this review, this movie has a 5.9 on IMDb. The only thing more baffling than that fact is the lack of care that went into creating this gorebage. If this movie were a road and plot holes were potholes, it would be unable to be driven on. The lack of care that went into creating this film is just disrespectful to the audience. I will not watch movies that are below a 6.0 on IMDb. This one was right at the cusp of a 6.0 so I gave it a shot and thoroughly regret it. This movie is the equivalent of a rebound partner after a long relationship. Just something you want to forget ever happened.
Host (2020)
Well Done
I'm a horror movie enthusiast that will not easily handout accolades. Host, takes the movie Paranormal Activity, and brings it into the abyss which we have come to call 2020. The movie accurately reflects the times and does not lightly skim over the new norms such as elbow bumps instead of hugs or handshakes. I thought it was going to be gimmicky and hokey. I was pleasantly surprised and truly put on the edge of my seat. The length of the movie is even the same as a the free version of a Zoom meeting. Well thought out, wonderfully executed, no complaints with the acting. Excellent work! Well done!
