Shrek 2 (2004)
Great great movie
There was a time when I was not a fan of animated movies. I thought they were a cop-out for directing and all of the other old-world movie techniques. Shrek 1 convinced me that the format can work and Shrek 2 convinces me that the format can be superior. Shrek 1 was a child's movie that appealed to adults. Shrek 2 is an adult movie that appeals to children. My girlfriend and I, both 24, laughed through nearly the entire movie. It is a brand of comedy that should appeal to any relatively hip member of the community. I recommend this movie for a rental night where you and the significant other want to bond over near constant laughing. If he or she doesn't laugh nearly the whole time, you either have a cold fish or a shut-in on your hands. Keep looking.
Cheats (2002)
USA's best effort ever
I caught this movie on HBO and it quickly became one of my favorites. The Handsome character is so likable and charming he can only be summed up with one phrase: "Dog porn?!?!?". Seriously though, whoever had this movie go straight to TV on USA Network has hopefully been fired. I'm glad it found new life on HBO where it can seriously be appreciated as one of the best high school movies I've ever seen. Perhaps second only to The Breakfast Club and Fast Times. If possible, I recommend taking a glance at your local rental facility to see if this title is available. It gave me a lot of ideas on how to make law school more enjoyable, but fear of the Bar committee made me think otherwise. See it soon.
Daredevil (2003)
Gigli couldn't have been this bad
The good news for Ben Affleck is that Gigli couldn't have been the worst movie of the past year. I almost wanted to cry for Colin Farrell and Joe Pantoliano after seeing this complete piece of trash. The dialogue was not "comic book authentic" or however it has been excused, it was just horrible. This movie had no redeeming quality whatsoever. Colin Farrell was reduced to a series of grunts. The logical fallacies of this movie exceeded Double Jeopardy, and that is saying something. Poor Jennifer Garner is a better action actress than to have to be imported into blockbuster (which is different from straight to Blockbuster, which this should have been) simply to provide some kind of sex appeal. I will admit that my friends and I laughed harder during Daredevil than in any movie we have seen in recent memory.
