An Embarrassment to watch as an Indian living abroad
I don't usually review movies but this was just a disaster. I genuinely thought it would be a nice European Christmas movie with an Indian character, the idea seemed so exciting as an Indian who lives in the west and enjoys the Christmas time. This however turned out to be a complete disappointment. As if we as Indians abroad are not already burdened by all the stereotyping, this just added to that and sought to leverage it for comedizing. Jashan's character is an embarrassment to every Indian. It's not that hard to appreciate the culture of others as the movie makes it seem, his girlfriend is very patient irl she would've dumped him immediately and nobody would've blamed her. I get that her family wasn't perfect either (racist too at times) but at least they tried to be accepting. How would an Indian family feel if a Norwegian girl tried to overrule Diwali albeit not intentionally. It's not even like in the movie she's not telling him that he is messing things up but he goes on to do dumb stuff over and over again. I'm sorry but I felt nothing but embarrassment from this. There was so much potential from the cast and the setting, locations, and cultural factors but no the writer decided to cherrypick the most bizarre things that could be found and put them on display. I am giving 3 stars for the Norwegian landscape. Just a big missed oppurtunity. Please don't make such movies, we already are stereotyped enough.
AK vs AK (2020)
Bizarre. And not at all in a good way.
The film, if you can even call it so, was utterly bizarre. I am open to new theme, ideas and formats but this was just an irrational wannabe innovative approach. Bollywood wives meets some dumb school project. It wasn't hilarious, wasn't thrilling or anything that would for a second raise audiences' intrest in the film. Complete waste of time both for the audience and those involved in the making. The only good thing would be Anurag's acting, he made the character (supposedly himself) look so reprehensible and viel, that aligned with the purpose of the film, again, if you can even call it.
