The Engineer (2023)

How to Engineer a bad movie
27 December 2023
"The Engineer" disappoints on multiple fronts, stumbling through a poorly executed narrative that leaves audiences questioning its direction. The film's attempt to portray accuracy falls flat, as dubious choices compromise the integrity of its storytelling. Character development feels rushed and lacks depth, leaving viewers disconnected from the protagonists' struggles. Moreover, the cinematography fails to elevate the weak plot, with scenes often appearing disjointed and lacking cohesion. The film's supposed authenticity in depicting technical aspects comes across as contrived, diminishing its credibility. Overall, "The Engineer" falls short of expectations, delivering a lackluster cinematic experience marred by questionable accuracy and subpar execution.

Leave This Movie Behind
8 December 2023
What a disgrace. Netflix just can't nail the slow burn no matter who they hire or how much cash they throw at them. This had amazing potential. Maybe the book was really good. But this was just a long drawn out slow shuffle to nowheresville. Even when the movie ends it's like it just stops. No ending. No climax. The narrative just comes to an end. Some decent acting talent and nice scenery, but the director's use of weird, amateurish camera angles gave me a headache and made the whole movie seem like a USC student film that didn't have a script or story. All in all this is just typical drainage from Netflix.

A Sackler Story, May They Burn in Hell
12 August 2023
This is a well done, dark journey into an American hell created by an evil family and their soulless minions. While it is disgraceful that the endless suffering of the victims and their families has been turned into entertainment, this is important. The world needs to see what happens when an evil family is allowed to destroy America for profit. This covers the same material as Dopesick but a different take. Same info and honestly I enjoyed both. The portrayal of the Sacklers in both is not flattering. Truly evil people. The actors were amazing. A list talent and great writing. Highly recommend this and every American should see it.

Burn in hell Sackler trash

This is an incredibly well done, dark journey into an American hell created by an evil family and their soulless minions. While it is disgraceful that the endless suffering of the victims and their families has been turned into entertainment, this is important. The world needs to see what happens when an evil family is allowed to destroy America for profit. Barry Levinson is an amazing director and he did an incredible job creating this dark addictive narrative form all this misery. The actors were amazing. A list talent and great writing. Highly recommend this and every American should see it.

Skip this trash

What garbage. The world is coming apart and this movie actually makes you wish it would. Talk about a film having no backbone, no soul, no talented male lead. Another disgrace to cinema out out by the jerks who control hollywood. I wish I could get the time back I put into watching this. Why won't anyone in hollywood tell Tom hanks he can't act (or write lol). One of the worst flicks Netflix has put out in a long while. I wish there was something redeemable in this garbage but I couldn't find it no matter how hard I looked. Pass on this one. Another Netflix dump that shouldn't have been made. F.

Lucky I found this
9 May 2023
This is a great limited series. It combines the sweeping dramas of a western-themed family narrative with an au courant exploration of racial and socioeconomic disparity and strife in contemporary Northern California farm country. And on top of all that it's a great watch. It might sound heavy handed and typical Hollywood fodder, telling you what to think and how to react but this one just lets the story unfold and invites you along for the ride. The shows creators did a great job coming up with the blueprint and the director also did a great job capturing the beauty and visual feast that is Northern California. Check this one out!

Tandy ruined this, could've been pretty good
12 February 2023
This could have been pretty good, but Tandy Newton was cast in it and like a lot of talentless celebrities she can't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Half of her performance is made up of still shots. Other than Tandy the film isn't bad. Pretty good execution and production value but the movie is very dark and heavy. Not a lighthearted comedy. The above being said if you are a fan of the filmmakers or the actor in it check it out but don't expect to be laughing. Four words for Tandy's management team: acting lessons, drama coach. Seriously she's starting in major motion pictures, somebody should spring for a coach.

The return of Foghorn Leghorn
24 December 2022
This is ok. Just ok. Like most Netflix big budget releases this isn't that great. Star studded slick entertainment but altogether forgettable. I think Daniel Craig is great, but his accent in this is very very distracting. At times he literally sounds like Foghorn Leghorn. Like Don't Look Up and the Adam Project this had potential but it's ultimately not a great flick. Can't understand all the hype and awards talk. This movie is loaded with the sort of passive racism and unconscious bias that Hollywood is known for. The only reason movies like this do well is bc so many people are already paying for Netflix. Another overpriced overhyped franchise. But it's watchable so a 7.

Sorry, I really, REALLY wanted to like this movie but just couldn't. Why? Because it's terrible. Bad writing and directing, what the f was the story even about? Even great actors can only do so much with drivel like this and the rock is an ok-above average performer. He didn't stand a chance. Studios need to stop trying make things black just to be trendy, it's chasing audiences who want entertainment away. This was the latest example. And it's not a good movie. Really wanted it to be just unfortunately it just isn't. If The Rock couldn't save this, why did they make it? Hopefully next time they'll be smarter.

The opening credits say quite a lot in terms of how they see themselves. As an American I don't really care about royalty and just checked this out mainly because there isn't all that much new on Netflix to watch. I didn't think it would be great but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I don't know what Meghan is like in real life but she came off like a life-long gold-digging fame seeker, which makes her husband seem like a fool. I don't know if that's the case and after watching this I'm not sure why I should care. These two are pretty boring and this show is a disgrace to television. It deserves a zero.

Sultry Singin'
30 November 2022
This is an excellent movie i have been watching it since the day HBO released it with my big sister. It is the type of movie that u can watch over and over again and still laugh, smile, and cry every time with out ever getting bored of it like other movie's. It is a movie that will live on forever through generations of family. I love it :) when ranking from 1-10 in my case i would rate it easily 9.9 every time.

Itis a film about the change of a girl who sings and her friends, their relationships within their singing family, the changes in Gail's view of the world during their experience.

HOLIDAY HARMONY WILL FOREVER LIVE ON AS A TIMLESS CLASSIC. Thank-you sorry though for only the short comment.

The Miserable Mythbergs get a Movie
24 November 2022
I was so wanting to love this, Spielberg hasn't done a decent movie in a long time so I was really rooting for this but it's a sappy soggy saggy slush through a gauze filtered revision. The story if one can call it that just rambles with mind bending cringe lines. Stories happen to people who can tell them. Worst dialogue heard in theaters since the 90s. This will do well in streaming but I would advise against spending money in a ticket. You'll feel like you just paid movie theater money to watch a lifetime movie you could have watched on your living room couch for a lot less money. Biggest problem is that the story isn't that interesting or compelling.

White savior garbage
3 August 2022
Why were 90s producers so unbelievably stupid and tone deaf? What kind of trust find trash out of touch morons made such a boring insensitive pile of garbage? Ok, the cinematography was great and the stars were perfect as always but the movie still sucks.

Amazing performance by Close, incredibly powerful movie can't believe it hasn't gotten more press and attention. Subject matter isn't appealing to everyone but still an incredible and underrated film. Masterfully produced.

Surprisingly good
29 June 2022
It took me a long time to watch this. The poster of Russell Crowe was a huge turn off. But at some point in the pandemic I got around to it and what a pleasant surprise. It seems like a fairly accurate portrayal of life at sea in those times.

Honestly one of the dumbest movies ever made
25 June 2022
Terrible. Lazy writing with characters behaving in such wildly stupid ways because it was the only to keep this steaming pile of disgrace going. Seriously it's like a group of 13 year old boys got together to make a movie.

Yes, it's way better than Armageddon
22 June 2022
But it's still a crappy movie. Tea Leona is great and looks super in her pearls and workskirt combos, but even she couldn't save this dog of a movie. But if you're considering this or Armageddon, watch this. It's the better bad film.

Would have been great, but that kid...
22 June 2022
Could have been a pretty decent movie. Great talent almost all around. That kid ruined the movie. I don't know what kind of tax credits they got for picking some kid off the street who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag, but it wasn't worth it. Completely ruined the movie.

So much fun
10 June 2022
I love movies like this. The stars, Lauren and Josh, have great chemistry on screen and that makes the movie that much more fun. Fun second chapter for these two lovebird characters. Hope to see more installments of this and more from Lauren Swickard!

This is what a sequel should be
10 June 2022
While some aging hollywood power players are remaking dated song and dance numbers from 80 years ago, these guys are taking material from almost 40 years ago and expanding it. I don't want to give much away except to say go see it. It's what a theater blockbuster movie is supposed to be.

Tijuana bathtub candy
6 June 2022
It looks like delicious candy, but I'm turns out it's the kind of candy made in a Tijuana bathtub. It's soul poison. I can't believe what's happened to this franchise. I went to see top gun a second time and it was sold out so I saw this. Wow what a wasted afternoon.

So boring. So desperate. So irrelevant.
14 May 2022
Only 33 reviews on week 4, guess I'm one of the four or five dozen people watching. As middle age spread takes hold of the kardashian Jenner clan we are shown the same old insipid nonsense. I never had an opinion about them, never watched the first show but this was on Hulu so I watched. Wish I hadn't. So boring. So desperate. So irrelevant.

Wonderful surprise

Wasn't expecting much from this but it's a great movie. Thought provoking, and more relevant now than nearly ten years ago when it was made. The implications of AI on our personal lives make for fascinating sci fi. This one hits mark.

Disgrace to cinema
28 March 2022
Watching Jayden try to act is truly painful. Nepotism at its worst. Jayden and will in the same movie is the cinematic equivalent of black on black crime.
