Pandore (2022)
Excellent drama from Belgium!
Pandore has all the elements of a fine dramatic series. I really enjoy political intrigue and this Belgian production hit all the right notes. You'll root for the good guys and hope the bad guys go down. All the performers were great and the story is first rate.
The main topics are subjects that are attention getters in every country. Having spent my career in politics, the story was exciting for me all the way through. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The twists and turns in the script kept my interest all the way through. I hope to see more series from the same director. I loved Pandore and I'm sure you will, too.
Love at First Sight (2023)
A very sweet film
Love At First Sight is the best movie I've seen in a long time. Cupid's arrow hit me straight in the heart. The lead characters were perfectly cast. All the story lines were charming. Everything fit together just right.
I was rooting for Hadley and Oliver from the first minute. What a sweet couple. Besides the main theme there is a certain plot device that was especially delightful. The movie's title is perfect. The ending was good enough to make me misty. I can't imagine anyone not falling in love with Love At First Sight. The only criticism I have is that the film is too short. I'd recommend a sequel with the further adventures of the the lead couple.
Love's Portrait (2022)
A beautiful story!
Love's Portrait is a 1st rate romance. I was instantly drawn to it when I read that it takes place in Ireland. I love young romance and I knew I'd enjoy seeing the scenery of Ireland. I was right.
The cinematography was outstanding.
All the performers are wonderful. You'll fall in love with the two leads. At each moment of the story, I eagerly awaited the next. There were many very enjoyable funny moments, but the romantic elements were the best.
Art lovers will enjoy that element of the plot. You'll definitely be cheering for things to work out well for the lead couple. They're really charming. I'm not ashamed to say that this 70-year-old guy cried tears of joy at the end.
Love's Portrait is delightful. I can't think of a better way to spend two hours. I'd watch it again right now.
Trigger Point (2022)
Exciting, engaging, edge of your seat entertainment!
For fans of intelligent drama, there isn't much to like on American TV anymore. There are Dick Wolf's shows and that's about it. Thanks to the Peacock streaming service, we now have the excellent new British suspense series Trigger Point.
In this great show, police are chasing down a serial bomber. The energy level is high, the camaraderie among the police is enjoyable and you're kept wondering where the bomber will hit next. The show features the most diverse cast I've seen in any show. All the actors are very good, especially the lead performer, Vicky McClure. You can tell that, whether on or off duty, her mind is always on the task. Her piercing glances bring to mind the old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words." I'm delighted to know that Trigger Point has already been renewed for another season. It's the essence of a compelling drama.
Press Play (2022)
A sweet romance with an unexpected twist
Press Play is a delightful story of young love. There are reminiscences of The Lake House, a movie I loved. I enjoyed watching the two leads fall in love. The main plot device is unusual and played out in a very enjoyable way. Danny Glover is perfect in his role. The sound track is great. I really liked every song as they were woven into the plot. Press Play made me very happy. It's a fine "date night" film.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Strangest film I've ever seen
A friend and I saw this movie today. It's the 1st time I've rated a movie one star. The draw for me was 98-year-old James Hong, an actor whose career I've followed for over 50 years. We agreed that the script must have been written by someone on a bad acid trip. We were ecstatic when it was finally over, because we didn't understand it at all. I still enjoy watching James Hong, but whatever the message of this film is, we definitely missed it.
Jersey (2022)
Do not miss this beautiful film!!!
Given that Jersey is mostly subtitled, it won't be for everyone. I urge everyone to see it anyway. This is the absolute best film I have seen in a very long time. It is set in India with the game of cricket as its main theme. All the performances are wonderful. I laughed and I cried. It's a long film and at times, you may think it's going nowhere, but just wait. The soundtrack of Indian songs is delightful. I totally loved Jersey. I'll never forget it. I will watch for more films from this director!
In the Earth (2021)
Most bizarre movie I've ever seen.
I don't think I've given any movie less than a five until now. I don't usually go for horror movies, but this one was recommended by a British magazine I subscribe to. I'm sure I'll never understand it. What a waste of time and money. The review said fans of this director's previous films should appreciate it. I'll be sure to avoid any of his future creations.
High Life (2018)
A great soporific
I love outer space movies so I had high hopes for High Life. The premise of people entering a black hole really excited me. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did. I turned this film off at about the halfway point when I had already been snoozing for 20 minutes. I don't like to post bad reviews, but I would rather have a tooth pulled than see five minutes of this dreck ever again.
Finding You (2020)
A perfect 10
I saw this beautiful film today with a friend. Young romance is my favorite theme. We both enjoyed it and I liked it so much, I've added it to my list of all-time favorite films. Yes, it's really that good. There are happy moments, sad moments and more happy moments. There are moments of great merriment. The main characters are delightful. The acting is great all around, the direction is perfect and the cinematography - the scenery of Ireland - I lost track of how many times I said "Wow!" I may see it again and take a female friend next time. One thing is certain - when it's released on DVD, I'll be first in line to buy one.
Romance (2020)
What a beautiful story!
I was drawn into this unique drama right away. Love, romance, suspense, with time travel as the central theme. Good guys, bad guys and characters you'll root for throughout. You'll consider this six-episode French miniseries time well spent, and you'll always remember the heartwarming ending.
La guerra è finita (2020)
You will never forget this remarkable miniseries
The Italian miniseries La Guerra e Finiti (The War is Over) is one of the finest Holocaust dramas I have ever seen. You'll laugh and you'll cry. It's subtitled, so you'll have to watch closely so you don't miss any of the dialog. All of the adult actors give great performances. The children, though, really steal the show. I hope it is eventually released on DVD. I'll buy one to keep and a few more to give away as gifts. It's really that good!
Nurses (2020)
Very enjoyable
I can't get enough of medical dramas. NBC now offers three good ones. This new entry from Canada is very nice. I'm loving watching the young nurses getting to know each other and themselves. There are some unique plot lines and all of the performers are well suited to their roles. Nurses has been good from the start and will surely get better. Keep watching!
Christmas in the Highlands (2019)
A modern day Cinderella story
I don't understand why this charming film got so many bad reviews. I watched it last night on Lifetime and so did a Scottish friend, based on my tip about the story line. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. While not the best Christmas movie I've seen, I would gladly watch it again.
You'll recognize the characters who were based on the famous fairy tale. The two leads were well chosen. It was a delight wtoatching their romance unfold. There is also a scene involving an animal that you will always remember. It was a unique and very clever plot device. I believe you'll agree that this heartwarming tale is two hours well spent.
