Asteroid City (2023)
Is it a play or a movie?
While, I love artistic movies that blend style, story telling, and good acting, I was really trying to understand the play and then the movie and how they connected and why they connected. I feel the cast were grouped together either because they wanted to be part of a Wes A film regardless of what they thought about the plot if any. While, Wes usually casts the same folks from his prior movies, wonder how interesting this movie would have been with unknown cast members. Is it a trick to bring audiences in with famous names? Can we just watch a story without thinking on the cameos and who would be next to show up. I did enjoy the visuals, unrealistic in the real the world, the dialogue (no one talks like that), but it was an experiment in the arts, this film and while the main purpose of this film a visiting alien, nothing more was said or progressed on that arc and felt empty. Could be any other school play performance or college movie with props.
Fast X (2023)
Right....the budget went to paying for those cameos
I am not a huge follower of this franchise and at the start and when Paul walker passed, i enjoyed the series as it progress but later movies, i didnt bother because you know, jacked up cars, destruction and fast driving, not special anymore and becomes repetitive. The special effects in this one devoid of any physics, took the cake.
I kept saying RIGHTTTT! Like that action scene is indeed possible. Am i watching a fantasy car ride and why are theses cameos popping up everywhere.
So it seems they left it wide open for more sequels and god help us that we need to continue to see this franchise live for another movie.
For the Love of DILFs (2023)
Refreshing take on an old reality formula
Netflix has really seeded the reality genre of dating love shows and while they did have some queer members here and there, i stumbled on this by chance and surprised. I rolled my eyes a few times but stayed for the, you guessed it, slowmo walk through of these hunks. There were some real connections, some weird awkward convos, and Of course drama that we love. Stormy Daniel as a host was a nice touch and those outfits! So far so good for another live dating show but if you know the formula on how to get through the show by playing the game, do the people really on there really have a connection? Wondering if they would be a reunion, hard to say. Considering even those on love is blind from Netflix split up in the end, will this cast repeat n play just for the challenges and money, but not really love? Stay tuned !
I don't really have a fav and maybe that's the problem in rooting for someone or a couple.
Get a bigger production budget for season 2 Please, as the interviews on green screen was tacky and we could see it being distracting.
Willow (2022)
My first watch into the world of willow
I never saw the movie but bought into the hype of this when it came out. I'm curious as to who wrote the script? Was it a tween? Was it someone who needed cash to hastily write something that does not fit the context of the period ? It's like the dialogue is made for kids at a play and humour is eye rolling. Will pass !
Why does Disney have to ruin stories just for the sake of putting money into productions that suck?
I think this is the lotr series disaster from Amazon prime. When I watched the sword fighting I found it to be too rehearsed n slow and special effects meh for my taste. It's missing the human heart and compassion among the characters as they all seem be thick like brick.
Ein Weg (2017)
Refreshing slice of life story
I enjoyed the movie, the cinematography and the atmosphere. The chemistry between the 2 main characters was lovely and many elements mirrored my own life and I could sympathize in some scenes. I would have loved to see more of the story continued down the years, although no loose ends were left, it felt it needed a final closure for me on where their paths would take them further. Will re watch again.
The only plot hole is what happened to the mother of the boy and was Martin sickness related to stress or something else. I would have liked more context on locations of their town and seaside. For a small budget it was a beautiful movie to watch on a fall evening like I did.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
"Sequels better than the original" are always a hit and miss and this was a wide miss.
I never write reviews and this is my first time. I'm not a huge comic book follower but I do enjoy the movies. I always give the story the benefit of the doubt and watch with an open mind. I enjoyed the first movie and was utterly confused and distracted by the scenes where they are trying hard to show that it is the 80s. From colors to costumes to culture of the time. I get it, we know, but even the story line and everything else I was hoping will salvage this, was terrible. I enjoyed the first 10 mins scene and wished they was more of that.
Oh well, time for the director to do something else. One hit wonders come and go. Hopefully it will be salvageable on the next movie.
