Fast X (2023)
Fast DEAD
If you like physics defying driving sequences, a horrible plot and the excessive use of the word "family" then this movie is perfect for you... the whole movie was just one gigantic mess. I understand it will continue on in the next movie but so many characters just vanished from the movie without any indication that that would be the last you'd see of them in this movie. And I honestly don't get all the reviews saying Jason Mamoa carries this movie, because he doesn't. His character is such a disaster, he seems to start off as a fairly normal villain then suddenly starts acting and dressing like a 12 year old girl. I honestly thought the franchise couldn't get any worse after fast 9, but boy, was I wrong. Theyre honestly just flogging a dead horse with this franchise now. Completely disappointing.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
A beautiful send of to our favourite group of ragtag misfits
9 years, 6 movies and one special presentation later... its time to say goodbye to our guardians. The movie was done in typical Guardians style with some kick ass tunes and plenty of laughs but this movie had so much more heart than the previous 2 titles. The story mainly focuses on Rockets backstory, which is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking. The only disappointing thing was Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, he was powerful enough but portrayed as a child and kind of stupid... basically like drax, but less funny. If ypu enjoyed the previous 2 guardians movies then I highly recommend you go check this out. Definitely one of the better MCU movies since Endgame.
The Last of Us (2023)
Perfect... absolute perfection
The video game purists will absolutely love this. The casting is pretty much perfect and they've absolutely nailed the vibe of the game. They've added enough extra that weren't from the game to give the story and characters that little bit more depth but at the same time staying absolutely true to the original storyline. They've even kept a lot of the original dialogue from the game too. As far as video game adaptions go, this is by far the best I have ever seen from one. Even though I already knew the plot, it still kept me extremely excited to see how it would play out. Even if you haven't played the game, I still highly recommend watching this show as it's absolutely phenomenal... perfect 10/10 for me.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
A lacklustre story that requires heavily on CGI
The movie itself definitely lacked any real storyline... basically just going back for revenge on Jake Sully and then they added what they were after on Pandora (a different substance compared to the first movie) and it feels like they went over that pretty quickly. The CGI and visuals were absolutely amazing but in all honesty, the movie could have gotten to the point and be at least an hour shorter on its actual runtime. After 30 minutes, the next 90 minutes could have been squeezed into 30 minutes and you would have still gotten the same effect. Fairly disappointing movie overall and didn't live up to the hype. Hopefully they do a much better job with the 3rd instalment of the franchise.
The Godfather (1972)
Slow, boring, overrated and almost put me to sleep.
I honestly don't get how this movie is so highly rated... it is extremely slow and boring. The only saving grace was Marlon Brando's performance in the film, apart from that, this film literally did nothing. From someone who loves a good gangster movie, this movie was absolute garbage. Movies like Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, Carlitos way and Scarface are all amazing films and make this movie seem like a lullaby because it's enough to put you to sleep with its extremely slow and gentle pace. The movie runs for appeox 3 hours and going outside and watching the grass grow would be a more exciting thrill that sitting through this absolutely overrated disaster.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
What a way to cap off phase 4
The movie was amazing and not just a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. They only had a tribute to him at the very beginning and the final scene of the movie. The story was so well told and there was a lot of depth to it. The introduction of namor was done brilliantly and really hope we see more of him in the MCU in the future. The action sequences were great and there wasn't an excessive overuse of comedy apart from a few quirky one liners. The CGI in this was much better and not so excessive on the colours like it was in the first movie. Ryan Coogler absolutely nailed it with this movie and I hope we see him do more with the MCU.
The Bear (2022)
Phenomenal, absolutely Phenomenal...
I used to work in a place fairly similar to the one in the show and we even had a really good chef come in and redo the entire menu just like Carmy did in the show. I can't believe how well they captured the work environment of a place like this, absolutely well done. The backstory which does progress through the season is amazing and it really does pull at the heartstrings. I managed to finish this show in 2 nights during the week but if I had done it on a weekend I easily could have knocked the whole season out in one go. The way the season ended was just perfect and I really hope we get a season 2 asap.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
A love letter and thank you from marvel
This is literally 3 generations and 20 years of spidey all rolled into one. Everything about this movie was brilliant from the plot, the humour, the nostalgia and all those moments that really pulled at the heartstrings. The best way I could describe this movie is that it's a well written love letter and thank you note from marvel for being a spiderman fan for all these years.
Eternals (2021)
More of an origin story than anything...
The movie goes more into the origins of the eternals and gives you an insight into each of their personalities. Don't go in expecting an all out established set of characters kicking ass from start to finish. The story is fairly well told but I must admit that it does lack some action but the action you do get is very well done and visually stunning, especially those that feature Thena (Angelina Jolie) and Makkari the speedster. It is hard to see how these characters will have a future intertwined with the rest of the MCU stories but it does day "the eternals will return..." at the end.
Night Teeth (2021)
Lucy Fry is so sexy... and that's about it.
I thought the trailer looked cool so I gave it a crack... unfortunately this movie is a massive disappointment. Just terribly written, horrible acting and literally felt like it was going no where the entire time. Do yourself a favour and skip this one, you're just gonna waste 1 hour and 40 minutes of your life.
